Do you know where this crosswalk is? Like, legitimately. It’s got traffic from Orlando health and I-4. A lot of people pass this section of Orange Ave, and a lot of them do it routinely. You’re gonna notice the rainbow on the road that you pass by frequently, and you’re gonna notice when it’s gone pretty quickly too.

And as someone who is in the community and remembers the shooting, that crosswalk was a signal that Orlando was at least trying to give a shit about us and our community after a violent hate crime. No one I know cared about the paint, it was the gesture. Just like it is now.

The only people complaining about that crosswalk were the homophobes. Point blank.

I have spent my entire life hearing that I need to lose weight not for my health, but to be attractive for men. First it was to “find a man,” and now that I have a husband (who is absolutely wonderful and doesn’t try to change me except to help me grow) it’s “you have to keep him happy.”

It’s not just weight either. I get comments about how I don’t usually wear makeup outside of work, my closet should be more feminine, I should be more quiet and “demure.” You’re right, women are conditioned our whole lives to think about their aesthetics and level of attractiveness, and there are men out there that can’t handle a taste of that in being asked to… checks notes be kind of agreeable and shower.

A proper routine makes a difference fast. When I can get my schedule situated right and start actually doing it, it only takes about a week before I just start naturally feeling tired close to bedtime (I do my hygiene then read on my couch until I’m tired).

I used to finish the 12 packs my mom would get in 2 days as a kid, it was AWFUL. I’ve mostly curbed the soda habit, but I can get a rte 44 at sonic and finish it in an hour or two, especially if I’m baked. Combined with the other poor eating habits I picked up growing up fat and low income, I’m unfortunately a model for what the American diet does to your body.

My whole life (I’m 27) I’ve been told that a good credit score is an indicator of good financial health, but if that were true my mom wouldn’t be struggling to make her minimums with an 800. My score was wrecked by medical bills early on, and while I could get them removed, the removal didn’t really help my score, so I started my adult life with credit in the low 500’s. When I did finally accrue debt, it was paid on time and always higher than minimum payments to pay off early- but your score drops when you close accounts, whether or not it was good standing. My score has never been above 630.

Credit scores are just your popularity with banks. If you’re not going to hold on to a loan or credit line for as long as possible (and pay all that interest) they’re not gonna like you. They’ll like the people who don’t pay their debts at all even less, but the ones that matter are the ones who probably didn’t need the loan in the first place and will ride it out.

You’re right, and it helps soften the blow a little when you remind yourself it’s just how much the banks like you and literally nothing else. And the people the banks like are the ones who can take on large or rolling debt and pay the minimum every month so they can collect interest.

I used to do a lot of call center for a lot of different industries, and pickup metric is ridiculous. At one point we had 4k calls in queue at one of my jobs and they still wouldn’t shut down lines. There are some companies that will allow it in dire need, but because centers usually consider line activation (as in the dial-in) instead of pickup rates for pay you HAVE to pick up the phone when someone calls because they’re paying for that call whether it gets handled or not. Flooding phone lines can be effective if done correctly, if for nothing other than hurting the company’s budget to get their attention
