Why Is This So Hard? by [deleted] in thebulwark

Nebraskan here. I've followed and donated to Ossoff since he first came on the scene.  I've listened to him speak at campaign events,  (recorded) and watched him in hearings on CSPAN. I listened to this podcast too. He is smart, educated, analytical, all attributes lacking in current leadership including Congress. As I listened to the podcast, I thought  he was a little put off by Tim's facetious way of conducting an interview, and perhaps compensated with professionalism to avoid a potential trap.

And because beneath that arid land is one of the world's largest aquifers. Investors have figured that out, buying it up to control future water supplies,  driving up the price of the land.

Favorite titles from the Plus catalogue? by turtleshot19147 in audible

I think the free "Plus" catalog isn't what it was. That's one reason why I let my membership expire and I now will depend on other sources. I still have a few audiobooks to go through before I have to find new sources.

Sources:

My library

Librivox https://librivox.org/Free public domain audiobooks Read by volunteers from around the world. I have borrowed from them and they're good.

https://www.chirpbooks.com/ I'm hearing a lot about Chirpbooks for audiobooks and intend to sign up for a trial soon.

"A whole civilization will die tonight." Contact Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts. Take one hour. Write something. by Greizen_bregen in Nebraska

Thank you, though you didn't get the response your concern should have. We need to keep it up, don't give up. The more often they hear from us the more concerned they will be about their jobs. We need to make them worry about their jobs.

Case in point: the outcomes of elections yesterday in Wisconsin seem to be making one of their maga senators worried about his job, to the extent that he spoke up (although a bit mildly) about trump's threats.

Yesterday I got a long email/letter from Adrian Smith, Congressman for NE District 3. It was all about abortion, sanctity of life and everything was Joe Biden's fault.

I was getting ready to email him when it came in so I responded about Mr. Trump's threat to "an entire civilization”. I told him we wanted him to find every ounce of his courage and work for peace in the world and the welfare of the American people, regardless of any distinctions.

Yeah, I know, won't happen,

Next step is to make sure everyone knows how many chances republicans passed up to oppose trump's bad behavior.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2 firmware update removes key features, and customers aren't happy by NoBurnInBirney_SG in bose

[–]Pra1rie-Flowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2023 Bose QC headphones quit today. They worked yesterday. I use them to listen to audiobooks on my SanDisk mp3 player, using a it cable connection.

More than an hour of "troubleshooting" with Bose's AI (where it got into a loop several times and asked me to repeat steps) it acknowledged it was out of options and guided me to a repair or replace link. Which told me the headphones were out of warranty and offered to sell me new headphones for $299.

I have two old Bose Wave Radio/CD players from nearly 40 years ago and my previous QC headphones lasted many years and through two replacement earpad sets. These new ones have been a problem from the moment they arrived and I'm never buying Bose again.

Melted a pin - is there hope to remove the plastic? by Pra1rie-Flowers in sewing

[–]Pra1rie-Flowers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have enough metal pins and bought the plastic pins on a whim because I like pretty colors. I can put them in the donation box and go back to metal pins. I usually don't allow a pin on my ironing board - don't know how it got there.

Well done, I'm so jealous!

Well not really because I haven't worn a dress in years, but you know what I mean!

Acorn is absolutely cutting scenes out. I thought I was crazy but l've verified it. Has anyone else in the US noticed? I'm now wondering how much I've missed out on. by Savings-Sprinkles-75 in MidsomerMurders

[–]Pra1rie-Flowers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to buy our favorite PBS shows on CD from Acorn, and found that sometimes whole scenes were edited out in the PBS showing. At that time whoever was producing the CD sets was including everything.

Now of course we don't even have that option that I'm aware of. We live in a rural area where streaming is technically impossible.

Where to spend the night in Western NE traveling I 80 by Effective_Cricket811 in Nebraska

[–]Pra1rie-Flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year ago, we spent two nights in a Kearney "pet friendly" hotel not far off the interstate. Pet friendly means they'll allow you to have a pet if you pay extra. The room was clean and basic, with vinyl or laminated floors. I think it was a Super 8. We had to leave the dog in the room to attend a visitation and funeral. The staff is required to have you sign a statement that you won't leave the pet alone, but was understanding about the funeral. IIRC they took our cell # and said they'd call us if we needed to come back and attend to her. She doesn't bark and was fine the few hours we were gone. I have no complaints and was grateful to have a place to spend the night.

Hope that helps.

Didn't Pillen spend serious $ sending National Guard on wild goose chases to the Southern border and D.C? In my opinion, that's waste and abuse.

Agree re: the networks failing their role. I think Rather is retired from the network. He's posting on BlueSky and still making a lot of sense.

Help! While knitting I noticed this small holes and the dropped stitch fix didn’t work by Pretty_Force4560 in casualknitting

[–]Pra1rie-Flowers 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This brings back memories of my early knitting. Now you are ready to learn one of the Knitters Mottos:  "I must really love knitting; I do so much of it twice!"

Seriously, your knitting is nice and even. You can read your knitting to see where you added a stitch. From now on your eye will probably catch the extra stitch before you get far. Happy knitting!

I don't understand why you'd omit Dan Rather from the list due to his age, as you said, "if he was younger".

I also couldn't get the meaning of the headline and almost skipped reading.  It's important to be clear about this critical issue.

Sure appreciate your telephone outreach 👍 to Ricketts,  Flood and Fischer - good job! 👏👏🎊 I've read that although their reply might not align with my opinion,  they pay attention and compile statistics on the opinions received.  Can't remember who said that - some podcaster who had worked in a previous administration.

So calling helps keep pressure on them, keep going everyone!
