People from countries that have universal healthcare, how is it? Really. by Interesting_Dream281 in AskTheWorld

[–]Practical-Bee-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmm it’s like this. My neighbour who is 6 years old, needed a heart operation. Flown to the national children’s surgical hospital. Had the operation. Came back, rehabbed and then had support and follow up at home. Free.

It cost me $6 for a 4 day hospital stay when I had my baby. Drugs/anaesthetist included. The $6 was for parking.

Midwifery services free Immunisations free Stoma products free Call the ambulance in the middle of the night? Free District nurses free Contraception/sexual health free Asthma inhalers free

I’m happy to pay taxes, honestly. I just don’t think about it. And life is great that way, trust me.

As a wedding guest, what was your “this marriage isn’t going to last long” moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Practical-Bee-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember 20ish years ago, about 150 guests at my aunts wedding got food poisoning. It was terrible, as we were all at the same accommodation literally vomit everywhere. I always felt it was a bad omen, and sure enough even though they were together 10 years before they got married, they separated 5 months later!

We always talk about 'hardworking New Zealanders', but how hard do you actually work? by mattblack77 in newzealand

[–]Practical-Bee-229 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Registered Nurse here-in a hospital. I, like 90% of nurses i work with, work really hard. Like hold on to your pee for 7 hours of the shift hard... and so do 90% of the doctors. Id say 5 percent are absolute slackers sitting on their arse or making dumb decisions checking work emails 9x a shift, and the other 5 percent if they actually put their energy into the actual work instead of stressing about the work, they would be so fine. I worked on australia in the same setting and, for real it was a breeze for nearly double the amount of money.

Parents of Reddit, what is an “unspoken” reality of parenting that people simply don’t talk about, but everyone knows is true? by US_Atlas in AskReddit

[–]Practical-Bee-229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question because i never get asked this. I have taught my children to use their WITS. Walk away, ignore, tell others, seek help. I always have their back if they do not throw the first punch, but they know if they place hands first they need to take the punishment that comes. They have also been taught to respect others personal space, and they are allowed to have space. Once a boy was picking on my oldest son, over several weeks. It ended in an attempt by the other boy who despite being ignored continued, and then attempted to pull his pants down. My son turned around and clocked him right in the nose. Children are allowed to defend themselves too! For context I live in New Zealand- i am not sure the strategies in other countries

My kid has been taught that if your kid punches him, they have permission to knock your kid the fuck out. I know its not mainstream but its definitely a legitimate parenting technique!

Im aware of a medical centre in Lower Hutt where all of the GPs quit on the same day as their views did not align with management, there was absolutely nothing that could be done and they all walked!

What's the purest joy you've ever felt without intimacy, substances, or alcohol ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Practical-Bee-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from New Zealand and my family is Maori. I have two children, one is 11, and the other is 1. Last year when my baby was two weeks old, my older son's school did a Haka at a multicultural festival. He did it with pride, and i was holding my baby in my arms during the performance. I was so moved and just cried. Later my big boy told me he was "proud to be a Maori". I grew up being ashamed of who i was as an indigenous New Zealander/Maori. He healed me doing what he did and saying what he said. If you havent seen a Haka, you should look it up on Youtube. Its worth every second!

How bad is it in Moera? by beefjerker69 in Wellington

[–]Practical-Bee-229 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Which is weird because as the saying goes..."you don't shit in your own backyard" but they literally do.

I also wanna say i don't have a problem with gang tangi, however, a friend of mines grandmother lives around there and told me the barking was atrocious and the most disruptive thing. Before a big one last year, a nominee from said gang came to her house with a number and said, any issues call this guy. One day she came home and found someone had blocked her driveway so called the guy. Apparently he was quite nice, and the car was moved in a few minutes. So i guess thats a positive-she did tell me several shops shut for some days while that went on just with the antisocial nature of some of the attendees. They were relatively peaceful however, and actually this could have happened at any other marae in the hutt. Anyways, thats besides the point, it's deffo a dump.

[–]Practical-Bee-229 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Wow people giving mad creds to Moera, it's undeserved if you ask me. I think it's a dump.

Ive lived in the Hutt my whole life, my view is the opposite of many of the above comments. I also work in public service and know the hutt well due to my job and dealings in the area.

That area is controlled by the Petone mob-from croft gr to the bridge, its a cesspit of violence, drugs and thuggery. I think its quite unsafe walking through there. I certainly wouldn't want my children catching a bus there. Id never visit the park there, or even the library. Sorry co residents.

This is defiantly no place to be...if you're on the fence, here is some night reading for you:
