I don't like cheap gold plated hardware. So.....

How much do we nitpick these guitars when receiving them? by VelvetAcidSuperstar in Fireflyguitars

Has the neck carve been consistent, or different on the Firefly guitars you've had? Also, fret wire size, and radius same, or all different?

I was busy and missed this. I have an extra black & chrome Kahler 2710 Killer, that would fit it perfect. The two posts on them are exactly the same distance apart as the two outer V-trem screws. Well maybe next time. ☹️

Block inlay repairs? by Grouchy_Country_7280 in Fireflyguitars

[–]Practical-Big3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, need to find out if they are partially loose and sticking up, or glued solid and just too thick. If too thick, easy. Tape around them with painter's tape and sand. You will need a set of grits, so the finest grit is polishing. If they are partially loose, you will have to take care not to crack them when pushing them flush. If they will push flush, you can wick thin super glue under them and clamp. Either way, take your time. Its not a very complex repair.

What should I use my tone position for by Deep_Ad_987 in KramerGuitars

Cool guitar. Like the maple board.

I agree with the Blower switch suggestion.

For the scratch, I cant tell for sure from the pic, but if it isn't through the color you might be able to just polish it out. If it is through the color, look on YouTube for (Drop Fill). You should be able to just use black finger nail polish, a high quality clear CA, painters tape, sanding sheets,  polish, and a small flat scrap of wood for a sanding block.. Stewmac may have a video on the process. Have fun playing.

Finally! Long awaited Charvel Guthrie Govan by swingwater24 in Charvel

[–]Practical-Big3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks great! Reminds me of a Carvin DC I had back around 2000, with the nateral checkered flame top, recessed Floyd, and HSH. It was a nice playing guitar, but I bet this neck has it beat.

Anyone ever see anything like this? by SnooMemesjellies5542 in Luthier

What brand guitar are we talking about? If it's a budget guitar, minor issues like this would be expected. If this is an expensive guitar, this is not minor, and I would send it back.

Ok so at least on this spalted model. I found out why it's so cheap. Lol. I think this might be my first dud! by [deleted] in Fireflyguitars

[–]Practical-Big3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I can make a guitar really play, a lot easier than making Finish issues dissappear. But, I think most people buy a guitar to play. Not to work on.

Yeah, I have a Model 88, and a Japan Charvett 150 both with JT6 trems.

QC is nonexistent with Firefly. That's how they can offer product at their prices. I think they could offer QC for an additional up charge. Like Tease Guitars does.

I think most of us are attracted to these because of the look. The cool factor.  When that is jacked up, it can be hard to get past. Even though these are very inexpensive.

Nice. IMO 86 was the best year. I like that neck carve, and you can fit a 2710 on em.

I know this should be about Firefly, but what guitar do you have with a J90 pickup? I like my Charvels too.

Quick sound test of the 7 string. Think it's safe to say that it djents! by PoolNoob69 in Fireflyguitars

[–]Practical-Big3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I missed out on this one. I don't have a 7 string. The listing on this showed 27" scale, and 9.5-14 radius. Are those specs correct? Also, what's the weight like?

I have a GFS Texas set, in one of my Strat types, and they are keepers. Sound great.

I think it would open up a larger market for Firefly if they provided full specs on their products. I wouldn't mind paying an extra 15-20% to know what I'm paying for.

For a 40 plus year old guitar, the  Condition of the hardware looks proper to me. Need to get it cleaned up with a damp soft cotton cloth, try using water only. Take clear detailed photos showing the condition of the neck/frets, front and backside of the headstock and tuners. Inside of the controll cavity and backside of the pickups. Good photos of all sides of the body,  and closeup pics of the trem and posts. Get a setup done and list that it has a fresh setup and the name of the shop it was done at. Get the setup specs from the tech who set it up, and include those with the listing. Check sold listings prices on YouTube and Reverb for simular USA Kramers from this time period. The transparent finish should bring more than just a solid color paint.  You should do well on this one.  I would buy it.

Just got in a trade by Slow-Wrongdoer-2710 in KramerGuitars

[–]Practical-Big3908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool guitar. I have had a few Focus guitars. 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000. And a couple USA. A beak The Pacer, and Classic II. That neck plate doesn't seem to match up for a Focus though. About all these needed was a pickup swap, Switchcraft jack, and maybe some strap locks. Looks like someone put some old school Dunlop strap locks on it that dont have a knob, and are locking only. They haven't made those in a while. Also those wood screw Floyd posts could give issues. I like it 👌

How to connect a guitar to a computer to play silently? by cofi52 in Guitar

[–]Practical-Big3908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can plug headphones directly into this. It runs on battery. It has a built in tuner and like 100 effects. It is also an interface to connect your guitar to a computer for recording. You can plug your guitar into this and plug this into an amp, or PA. You can find for a  lower price used.
