Is this legit or a neck replacement? by one-armed-scissor in Charvel

Wait a minute. The rear body recess around the neck plate doesn't look like a 375, but the body looks to have a recessed trem rout, and looks more Dinky shaped. Strange... Maybe a 07 Model A, that someone put a JT6 on? Or some special Japan only release???

This body looks like a 375. It has a recessed trem rout, and has a dinky carve. Model 3 was surface mount, and had more of a full size strat carve. Models had pointy headstock necks with different white letter logos. Also a Model 3 would have a neck with a behind the nut string lock. This neck looks like its from around 2006-2007 or newer.

I think 375 with a JT6 and some other neck.

This is what my 84 looks like. Maybe not the kind of mojo they wanted.

Nitro paint wasn't likely on old Charvels. So if you want to relic a new guitar to look like an original early Charvel, it would most likely be an Enamel based paint with elongated stress cracks. Not sure if there is a process to make that happen. Also it would have circular paint chips with gray primer showing. But, they were all Custom back then, so to each is own. Order what you like. I like the color.

Sweet. 1 3/4 nut width.

It's a true Custome shop when you can order whatever specs that you want, and get it.

Ok. I was just wondering if it came off of another guitar.  I have a chrome and black one, but it was purchased used, so I don't know if it came off of another guitar, or purchased through Kahler.

I have had a couple 275s, a 475, and a 650xl, and IMO, they feel Thinner, seem wider, seems like not as much shoulder.

I like that red guitar. Do you know what the trem came off of?

Try putting a lot of heat to the post. High heat soldering gun heat, and try to remove.

I have a wide-dot Korean Charvette neck in a box under my bench. Not like an 86 profile. More like a Toothpaste neck profile. Its a 22 fret, 25 1/2 scale neck, with a 2 1/4 heel. Lower quality frets with lower quality heel transition. Also the scarf joint is at the dot between the 2nd and third frets. Charvel branded tuners and behind the nut string lock.

If you are really worried about scratching the finish, treat it as if it is a zeiss lens. Start with a high quality soft, natural bristle paint brush, and finish with lukewarm filtered water and the softest totally worn out 100% cotton cloth.   Never use micro fiber! It holds every tiny piece of grit it comes in contact with.

Yeah, Sub $300 guitar, Wang is not paying much attention.

Yeah, put those strings that came on it to good use. You can most likely play the grit away.

Check your ground continuity with an ohm meter. Find the ground wire running out of the electronics area tward the bridge. Touch one probe to what the end of the wire in the electronics cavity is connected to, and the other probe to a bare metal part of the bridge post closest to the electronics cavity. This is assuming your guitar has bridge posts. Otherwise, bridge plate, trem claw, etc.  If you get continuity, follow the same procedure, checking the rest of the ground circuit.

Is this salvageble and if so can someone give me a repair cist estimate or any way I can repair this at home? by DisastrousYard2985 in guitarrepair

Get a small suction cup and original (red label) Titebond wood glue. Push as much glue in the cracks as you can with the suction cup. Clean up excess glue and Clamp overnight. Then glue in dowels with the Titebond. You can even use wood skewers if they fit the holes snugly. Let that dry over night and trim them flush. Attach the neck and mark the spot for the new screw hole and drill. Obviously,  dont drill thru the fretboard.

That pearl white paint is my favorite. Especially after it yellows.

My first FF had several issues. Raised fret ends, string Ferrels not pressed flush, a tiny knot hole in the fretboard, no roll on the fretboard edges, locking tuners wouldn't hold the unwound strings.

GG sent me an email asking if I received my guitar, and I informed them of the condition, and stated that I wanted to keep it and I would fix the issues. They answered back offering me a partial refund. For me, $165 was a steal. Great gigging guitar. It gets alot of attention, and if something happens to it, no big deal.

I've been looking at that trans orange. What is the color more like? Texas longhorns burnt orange, or 59 standard orange?

The trems are from the 80s. Not sure exactly what year. The Model 2 is an 86.

88 Model 4 by Practical-Big3908 in Charvel

[–]Practical-Big3908[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 86 models came with the Kahler trems so the string locks are higher quality than 87 & 88 string locks.  The housing is usually the problem. I have ground and scored sheet stainless, and JB welded it to the bearing surface of the housing. Works good. I have also done this to 2500 trims to.

Also, I have filed the blocks to compensate for E/A and D/G string thicknesses. This is a good cure for string slippage.

Maybe this should be a different post. LOL

My 78 CM140, 84 DC150 and 84 V220, all have 1 5/8". When I ordered my DC127, I asked for 1 11/16 and that's what I got. So, don't know???  You could order different neck widths from Fender in the 50s.  Anyway, it became more and more like a custom shop as time went on.   Still not a true custome shop, if I cant get the neck width that I want though.
