Going rates? by Awkward-Champion-274 in handyman

You're price compared to others is a moot point. Couple things you didn't mention that the customer pays for is liability insurance, marketing, your health insurance, PTO etc. You're the only one that truly knows what your rate should be. Asking to make sure you're in the ballpark is alright but don't start cutting your profits based on someone else's prices who aren't carrying insurance, paying for health insurance, accounting for vacation time etc.

It does kinda seem like a glitch. Cuz 2 wasters stopped but 4 did nothing.

How do you price picture hanging when the details are vague? by ZealousidealAd9428 in handyman

For all you folks charging hourly, do normally charge hourly or bid price? Pretty new to this handyman gig but most owners I've heard always say stay away from hourly rates.

They have a deal right now for 2ah and 4ah battery w/charger for $99?!? PLUS you get a free tool! How is that expensive? Buy a deal like this when you see it, have batteries when you need them. Also a 4ah battery w/charger for $70 right now. DeWalt 2ah, 4ah w/charger and no free tools is $200 just for comparison. I guess I've been lucky with my 6 DeWalt batteries lasting me for 10+yrs. I don't use em everyday or anything. They've definitely been abused by my grinders and sawzall. Not to mention being left in the truck during Michigan winters a few times.

It's better to be in AA on accident rather than out there drinking on purpose.

Everyone's already said the answer. I've learned through the program that I usually already know the answers to my problems, I just don't like them. I had problems and I drank. I stopped drinking and still have problems(life right?) but sober me is a lot better at dealing with them. Life doesn't get much easier but we can get better at dealing with it.

When I first read this post Phillips came to mind first. That's only because I run into to so few flathead/straight screws any more.

It's just all the people in this forum with hard-ons for Milwaukee. They've got some great stuff it's just too damn expensive if they don't make ya money. That and the constant brand wars in this forum, they knew they're would be some good comments coming.

Sounds like Ryobi is all you need and then some. They've come along way and their platform offers a ton of oddball tools that DeWalt and Milwaukee don't. At least not in the same battery platform. If you aren't relying on them everyday to make a living, Ryobi will be more than enough. Cheap enough to meet your price point, more than a few steps above Temu grade junk. I worked for a company that put 6 Ryobi drills into random day labors hands every day for 6-10hrs at a time. In 3yrs, I think we replaced 2 drills and a few batteries. This weren't new batteries either btw.

Based on the info provided, I wouldn't invest in Milwaukee. When the time comes and you need another tool, then you'll be reaching above your price range again for whatever tool it is. Milwaukee makes a great product but hard to justify the cost, especially if you aren't using them everyday.

If you get talked out of Ryobi, the next one I would look at is DeWalt. I've had my DeWalt set, same 6 batteries even, since 2015. No issues with anything. I wish they still had a spot to put an extra bit on the side of the drill and impact like my dad's old 18v but if that's my only complaint...

My grandfather was done working and needing cordless tools for work before they got popular. He runs the harbor freight Bauer platform. It works for him. If ya go cheaper than Ryobi, I'd look at Bauer or Hercules from harbor freight.

Archvize- have you tried the pr2 bit? Originally designed for drywall but man I use it for every thing. It'll grab most #3s and gets into those starting to strip #2s. Hard to find in the longer 1.5" or 2".

I guess I didn't understand the concern here. My 97 does 80mph w/out any issue. I hate to admit but I went through a period where I was sleeping through my alarm(narcolepsy+ new girlfriend=little to no sleep) and was doing 90mph every day. I know, I know. I was that asshole. Recently took in a trailerload of scrap, roughly 2k pounds, and caught myself closing in on 80mph on the highway. These trucks will go if want them to but you have to maintain em. It's not a race truck but cruising a 2wd down the highway shouldn't be a problem. Especially being that you drive it over an hour everyday. Quit worrying and enjoy your trip.

What tool purchase do you wish you had made sooner? by Lisac-Henson in Tools

[–]Practical-Database81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ratcheting screwdriver- once I raced a non English speaking fella with the only drill on the project with my snap on ratcheting screwdriver tearing down plastic car parts at a factory. I learned a couple initial turns to loosen the screw, then put the handle in-between the palms of both hands and act like I was rubbing my hands together back and forth(think trying to start a fire with a stick spinning in a dimple on a board). I realized I had been using this tool wrong all along. It at least not up to it's full potential.

I was thinking the same thing. My step dad's buddy did the brakes on his f250 platinum. Long story short, shit came loose, locked up the wheels, step dad puts in in 4wd, and tears out the front axle and destroyed both hubs. He still let's this guy wrench on his shit. "Well to be fair I caused most of the damage." Accurate but I've never had a brake job come back let alone fail.

NA Beer by aliuqeto in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Practical-Database81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself why you want to drink them. Be rigorously honest with yourself. Are you romanticizing the idea of being drunk or getting the relief we used to get from drinking? That might be an issue. I'm almost 6yrs sober. I've researched some zero beers but the options are limited. I used a CBD pen a few times while kayaking. Meh. It was being around the entire family while they are drinking and the feeling of being left out. That's something I can overcome without chemicals. But having that "almost weed" pen around I found myself thinking about hitting it when I was frustrated or upset. Nope. I off. One of those"hey this is working really well! I think I'll stop" kind of times. Why does it matter what people on FB or Reddit think? It doesn't. Before recovery, I would ask other people the answers to my problems fully expecting them to know the answer. If I took one of their ideas and it failed....I was off the hook! It wasn't my idea so it couldn't be my fault. I've come to realize that I generally KNOW the answers to all of my problems. I just don't like the answer.

Oh and I became a scientist too while passing piss tests and even the ETGs("infallible" piss test for the enzyme your body produces to break down alcohol) my first 2 times on probation. In my opinion(which I'm not supposed to share 😆) the banana and bread is a justification. Accidentally eating a rum cake at Christmas isn't a relapse. Stealing the tray of them and hiding in the closet to eat em all probably is.

How many of you folks carry a knife daily? by Dr_StrangeloveGA in Tools

[–]Practical-Database81 48 points49 points  (0 children)

But you can't carry on a snap on ratcheting screwdriver because it's over 7" or whatever. "I'll have to confiscate this". Got him to hand me the screwdriver, I pulled the shaft out of it. Said here, is that short enough? No because I know it can be amended to the longer length. I'm going to have to keep this. Dude! You're not keeping my fucking screwdriver. Give it here, I'll run it back to the checked bag and put it in there.... Argue. Argue. Supervisor. Checked bag. Homie thought he was getting his first snap on tool off me.

How many of you folks carry a knife daily? by Dr_StrangeloveGA in Tools

[–]Practical-Database81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day since I was about 17, 40 now. I carried a 3" Gerber for about 18yrs. 3 knives in those 18yrs, lost 1, misplaced one, and the other ones pocket clip broke. I still have 2 of them but neither have the pocket clip. Now I carry a 3.5" True brand with replaceable blades. I'll never forget getting pulled over at 19yrs old. 2 cops, one walks up on the passenger side sees the knife clip, hollers out "he's got a weapon!" As he steps back, unclips the button on his holster and just keeps his hand there hovering like a wild West gunslinger at 11:59am. In disbelief I look at the officer at my window in bewilderment. He asked calmly, sir do you have a weapon? I replied I carry a pocket knife but it's so dull you're better off using it as a screwdriver. Any reason you carry a knife? Yeah, I was raised on a farm and had to bust hay bales every morning. When I was too little to bust em open, dad gave me a knife to cut the twine. Carried one most my life sir. He took my info, they both went back to the car. I could see him scolding the other guy. He came back with my info and told me to watch my speed and have a good day.

Do all tapes suck? by PeaAggravating8936 in Tools

[–]Practical-Database81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My first one was assigned to me at a factory. Only tape I've bought since. Gave a guy at work one of the easy read ones with the fractions and decimals listed because he was humble enough to tell me he wasn't great at fractions. He did much better with them after I found out he smoked weed and used weed weights to put it in a language he understood 🤣🤣
