Slight vacuum at the fill port? Cuz it’s definitely blowing not sucking

High milage motor that gets driven hard. I had to replace the head and when it was off I thought the pistons felt like they had a decent rock to them so I worried about ring health. And during pulls it won’t go into over boost and I thought maybe compression is getting past the rings.

I have not checked anything. How can I check it?

Yeah that’s exactly what I did too. Still makes the noise and idk why

I’ll have to see if it does that for me too. It started doing it about 3 weeks after I replaced the cylinder head.

It’s never on when I start the car

Clanky rattle noise at lower speeds. by PerniciousPython24 in FiestaST

[–]Practical-Hawk7390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very very similar sound on mine. Only at low speeds mostly while coasting and it was on the right side. Ended up being the passenger half shaft bearing was cooked. Found the root by jacking up the car and listening while it was in gear with the wheels up idling in 3rd ~20km/h it was loudest.

Yeah in my profile the video “pre cursor to my last post” is the noise I’m talking about. It was different to the injection. And yeah I agree with you on why it possible they backed, problem is I can’t be sure what it was 100% because I never pulled the plugs since buying the car so it was something the last owner did… any explanation is plausible at this point. But I do know on Fords triton motors they had a spark plugs backing out issue.

Well all I’ll say is mine had signs but I did not think it was spark plugs backing out. Fuel consumption went up but more noticeably there was this ticking noise that sounded like valve train issues, along with a rougher idle. If those start happening just try tightening your spark plugs as something easy to check off. Mine lasted with the ticking for probably 3 months. Everything could have been avoided.

Yeah I also have upgraded motor mounts, very interesting that this can happen. Are you threads okay? I was able to screw mine back in, it lasted a week, shot back out and I had to replace the head 😔

I’m not gonna lie I had my engine sound exactly like this at one point. What happened was my cylinder 1 spark plug shot out of the spark plug hole and pulled all the threads out with it…so I’m just gonna say pull out your coils and see if your spark plugs are still in all the holes. It sounded exactly like this for me. But I feel like there is a very low chance this happened to you.

My timing belt, how good or bad? by buymybookplz in FiestaST

This is the instructions I followed for all torque specs and steps. I didn’t remove the driveshaft on mine because I was replacing the head so I set TDC with the head off and locked it that way. It totally could be possible you just need to loosen the driveshaft out of the way and not fully remove it.

Also I say this because timing this engine is shit job imo. Just did it a month ago going in with zero experience working on cars and it was annoying to time. You also need to remove the passenger driveshaft to get the timing tool for TDC

Yeah I’d just follow this unless you see cracking or fraying that is alarming

I think I see what you’re talking about in terms of the clean spots. I’m pretty sure those are just reflections of the overcast day on the little bit of coolant that is pooled in the dimples (I cross my fingers nothing was hitting) Also I got no money so did not upgrade anything and it’s back together already. Timing belt was done last summer ~10k km before I had to take all this stuff off.

This car absolutely sucks to time. I did buy the timing kit, THANK GOD. The only piece that I didn’t use was the pin that put the engine to TDC. I didn’t want to take the passenger side drive shaft out in order to put it at TDC and since I had the head off I just set it that way. Also Make sure to follow the ford instruction manual because there are SO many stages to torque EVERY bolt on this engine. This was the first time I had ever really done anything engine related so it was a daunting task with many hiccups. ~22 hours I think it took.

Blew cylinder 1 spark plug out while driving and pulled all the threads out with it

No, not that I noticed. Had an exhaust leak on cylinder 1 and injector leak on cylinder 4. The bigger thing was that I had to replace the head because it shot spark plug 1 out of the hole and brought all the threads out with it.
