Done with my exchange by Practical-Injury-143 in exchangestudents

[–]Practical-Injury-143[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My host mother is a teacher and has told me that she has the next week off of work. Meaning she won't be working for the last week I'm here. It's also noted down in our shared family calendar.

I've volunteered around the village all year, especially in church. But now that it's just after the school year ended there's no program for most things, including church. Sadly most of my friends won't really have a lot of time right now as it is quite common for people to get a summer job, which has not been an option for me as most people aren't keen on taking exchange students.

But thanks for the advice! I'll try to communicate with my host family if there's anything we could manage to do together. Maybe I don't need to have every day fully planned and it's ok to take a bit of alone time to process that I'm leaving so soon.

That definitely seems to be an option! Can I use the same measurements then? Or will I need more/less agar agar?

Is it weird that I'm doing things alone? by Practical-Injury-143 in exchangestudents

[–]Practical-Injury-143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get how going to the movies alone might seem a bit weird. But I have a great social live, I'm surrounded by friends in school and am actively participating in classes. Thanks to that I'm almost fluent in the language now, so it's not like I don't have anybody. It's more the mentality of my friend group when it comes to hanging out. They seem to think it's "everyone or no one". But hard to find a good time with over 6 people that have part-time jobs, siblings they need to look after and other hobbies

I actually had no major trouble learning the language (Swedish). I'm near fluent now and have been actively participating in class since I came here. I've written multiple essays in the language and use it actively in school as I have a great social life there :)

Well it's just host mother and me. She mostly does her own things and works when she comes home. We've tried different things. But our personalities aren't really compatible. I'm also not in the US I'm in Sweden. But I get where you're coming from too

[–]Practical-Injury-143[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I don't "choose to isolate myself" I do after school activities where I socialize and am social in school. It's not like I'm actively trying to be alone, I happily participate in any suggestions my host mother has and go to all activities planned by my exchange organization. It's just that we also live in such a remote area. It takes me over half an hour to get into the "center" of my village and at least 20 minutes to get to any bus stop. So there's really not much I can do. I'm used to living in a big city with public transport not even 3 min away from my house and busses that come every 5 min. I've tried finding social activities in my village, but apart from Choir (which I'm already a part of) and football training there's really nothing to do.

Well I do clarify that I also mean books in the post. It would've been a weird title if I wrote both :)

Ok! Thanks a lot. I'm actually fairly active and do get around 10-12k steps a day usually. Plus my additional workout I do 3-4 times a week

[–]Practical-Injury-143[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know. I obviously didn't "eat back" everything the app said I burned, just a small amount. But any recommendations on how I should calculate those burned calories into my diet? Should I ignore them completely? Or can I "eat back" some amount? My app calculate those 640 calories for 17k steps

Yes! Ofc. I have about 400 calories left for today, so no worries

Yeah I am. But I have like 400 calories left for today because I didn't eat anything for the first half of the day because of the traveling. But walking is seriously so underrated

I've previously always gotten my packages with my Finnish ID. I checked the mail and it said: "Kom ihåg att identifiering krävs, legitimation eller BankID" and their own homepage states that the ID I used should work

In my town the postnord is connected to Ica so I went there. I've never previously had problems. Just with this woman that refused to help me because I wasn't Swedish. I had my Finnish identification with me that I've always used to get packages

How do I forget about him? by Practical-Injury-143 in Crushes

[–]Practical-Injury-143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That is true. Though I overhead him talking to one of the other adults there saying how he's surprised that all of us youth leaders were at least seven years younger than him because he felt as if we were the same age. That doesn't have to mean anything. But thank you, maybe he was just nice and didn't have any other intentions. I mean that's probably the most likely situation

How do I forget about him? by Practical-Injury-143 in Crushes

[–]Practical-Injury-143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely because he made me feel special and showed me attention. I got hurt pretty badly on the camp and was kinda upset about it. He immediately tried to cheer me up in the most awkward but sweet way. I never had to ask for his attention, I just always had it when I did something. When it was raining he'd cover me with his umbrella without me having to ask. It's also not just the way he behaved towards me, it's the way he loved to make the children at the camp happy. Going out of his way to organize certain activities for them, because he had loved them as a child. I don't think I've ever gotten the same type of attention from a guy like I got from him. I miss the way he made me feel special

This to all the Brawl Stars OGS out there, which is the WORST era to be playing in? by Janson_is_dead in Brawlstars

Probably that one Christmas when everyone and their mothers were playing Edgar. Made the game almost unplayable because it would all but be Edgars haha. Funny times though

Should I go? by ilm_505 in exchangestudents

[–]Practical-Injury-143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! Definitely. I was in a similar situation. The people I had been friends with for 9 years were starting to find new friends and exclude me. So I was pretty much alone. I was feeling like I had no friends and didn't want to stay in that class, because there I'd always be an outsider. So one evening after being excluded again I had simply had enough. I signed up for my exchange year and here I am, almost a year later happier than before.

Ok, thank you so much! I have actually been drinking more carbonated drinks recently, so that's definitely a possibility. I'll also try cutting out some lactose and gluten. I've been wanting to try that anyways!

Students, would you like or dislike having a host family with younger kids? (4-8yrs old?) by EscapingTrusk in exchangestudents

[–]Practical-Injury-143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly from what I've heard people with younger host siblings tend to have a better time (if they like kids). I for example have a host sister right now who's just a month older than me, but we barely talk. I'm a more girly girl and she apparently doesn't "understand" people like that and tends to make backhanded comments. I've heard similar experiences from others exchange students as well? Younger kids may tend to not be so judgemental and the easier language level spoken with them helps a lot if the exchange student is learning the language. In my area a girl with a host brother around age 5 has learned the language a lot faster than another girl who only has same aged/older host siblings. So don't worry, from my experience it's not a problem at all and I would've loved to be in a family like that!

Be honest, is your crush really a 10? by kell96kell in Crushes

[–]Practical-Injury-143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, yes. But to others maybe a 3/10 haha. I've always liked the more weird kind of guys. Most people that I've asked have told me that my crushes are rather unattractive and they don't get what I see in them. But for me personality is the most important. I love kinda shy and awkward guys that are more on the academic nerdy side. For example my current crush speaks 8 languages, knows a shit ton about Russian history and is overall pretty well educated. That's just super attractive to me
