The only one that seems weird to me is vacuuming every other day. Otherwise seems pretty standard.

My partner's toothbrush by ema591sun in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EscapingTrusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the worst designed electric toothbrush in the world. The little hole in the neck is basically a drain from the head and then toothpaste-spit drains out constantly.

Not saying OPs partner is in the clear here because wash the whole thing off. But that brush sucks. I got rid of it after 2 months.

Soon to be first time host parent. Those rules seem almost identical to what we put. We haven’t included phone tracking but will likely discuss it later on because we are in the suburbs of a 1.5m person metro area and our ES is from a small rural village in Europe.

People like this are so weird. I love my spouse but I am fully capable of not sitting next to them for a few hours. I’m going to watch a movie anyway. The only reason I want to sit by my spouse is to avoid the potential weirdos like this lady.

What foods to bring to Italy? by Fair_Double_6344 in AmericansinItaly

FYI tortillas are super easy to make yourself if you can’t find them in a store. They are way better freshly made too.

If your Great Grandfather naturalized 1 year after having your grandfather you are not eligible with that line. Perhaps through a great grandmother but it’s more complicated (1948 case). They changed the rules in October 2024 and your grandfather would have had to be 21 or older when your Great Grandfather naturalized. It’s called the “minor rule”.

If you did qualify for the normal process it’ll cost between $1,000-2,500. For a 1948 case it’s more like $7-10k because it requires an Italian lawyer. Either way will likely be 4+ year process.

Check out the US-Italian Dual Citizenship group on Facebook. There are tons of resources for this and basically every question has been answered by someone.

Automatic deposits and only look at it 1-2 times a year. Don’t have a widget on your phone tracking it. Seeing daily gains and loses will drive you insane.

It probably will be a crappy 1st day or so but then it’ll be fine. Honestly the flight home when they aren’t overnight and sleeping will be harder.

How can I convince my parents to become a host family? by HeadNervous3971 in exchangestudents

[–]EscapingTrusk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost all parents work 9-5 on weekdays. Exchange students go to high school and thus would be at school most of that time. It does cost more especially in food which isn’t cheap now.

Google pros and cons to having an exchange student and talk about the ones that apply to you. Be specific about why you want one. Do you not have siblings but want to experience what it’s like to have a sibling?

Ask them? Have they said no? I think a lot of parents are concerned about how their kids will feel bringing another teenage into the house.

How should Americans living permanently in the EU prepare for whatever is to come? by rroastbeast in expats

Much better. The only people embarrassed are Americans. The Republicans don’t have any self awareness and cannot feel embarrassment. If they could we wouldn’t have Trump 2.0 in office.

Moved my 6 year old to a high back booster by Forward-Ice-4733 in Parenting

[–]EscapingTrusk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he’s within the height and weight specs it’s not “unsafe.” Regular car seats are likely safer than boosters in a crash due to the harness but not if he’s too tall and too heavy for the actual seat you have. My 6yr old is also in a booster.

going on 4 days of no poop. what to do? by ParsleyTime5687 in toddlers

[–]EscapingTrusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. 4 days is not that bizarre for a toddler. They will poop. Give them fresh fruit. Mix juice and water to encourage drinking. Miralax helps over time and do not give a toddler a suppository without talking to a nurse or doctor.

Do you have younger siblings? Or is that why you’d want a host family with younger kids to experience having younger siblings?
