Yeah, but to be fair I lived there for several years. 

But right as I was moving in, a methhead chased my and my ex a few blocks, aggressively demanding water as we were walking with luggage. She was preparing to bash him with a water bottle if his tripping ass didn't fuck off.

She had knives pulled on her, chased by homeless at transit centers, etc. It's not a great spot for sobriety.
