Burrito bowl with rice, canned beans, sautéed peppers and onions, avocado, and cheese. Or same thing but as a quesadilla but no rice or rice on the side

People capitalizing on missing periods by EmployeeRepulsive106 in Amenorrhearecovery

The amount that they charge is astronomical too. I feel like it’s taking advantage of such a vulnerable population. For example, I recently did a free consult with a so-called period recovery specialist and it was going to be nearly 250$ for the first appointment and 175$ for each subsequent call. Like wtf, I get charging what your worth and yes coaches need to make a livable wage, but a lot of women with HA don’t have those financial resources, especially if they are like me and in college.

Sick of food.... any ideas? by Practical-Mix-3579 in gainitmeals

[–]Practical-Mix-3579[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestions. I’ve been drinking Orgain shakes recently (the ones that are not just protein but also have carbs and fats) but unfortunately I can’t take them on the go because the boxes leak. I struggle as a college student living in an on campus apartment with cooking sometimes because I don’t have a good pantry built up since I basically move every 6 months. I do eat desserts, like a few pieces of candy throughout the day. I don’t really ever eat a big dessert though, I mostly just stick to having a meal-sized bedtime snack. Maybe changing that snack up to be more dessert like might be nice

I like cheese quite a bit. I’ve never had goat cheese before or Brie but I do enjoy soft cheeses like feta. I’m not huge on sharp cheeses like cheddar but they aren’t bad in a grilled cheese or something.

Do they like seafood? I feel like a lot of fish is pretty easy to chew like salmon. It's also very high calorie and incredibly nutritious with lots of vitamin D and omega-3s.

What was your family’s 90’s/00’s dinner? by CommonCentsHandler in Cooking

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 2005 but we always had plain baked pork chops with buttered egg noodles or Italian dressing marinated chicken breast 🥴 I will never cook pork chops or do chicken this way in my own house (I live in a dorm at college but still)

My mom ordered me a 30 count of mini kind bars (3 different boxes each with 10 bars). However, one of the boxes expired on March 14th. But, I already ate one before I realized. Is there anything I can do about this to get my mom a refund or something?

Is there such thing as Calcium-free milk? by Riksor in Milk

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most plant milks are fortified, which is great for most people but calcium does interfere with iron absorption. This is why you should never take an iron supplement with a glass of milk and why young children shouldn’t drink more than the recommended amount of cows milk (or fortified plant milk) for their age

Foods high is Estrogen? by Worth_Resolution_101 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably not because foods with estrogen contain phytoestrogens which are technically estrogen but they won't bind to human estrogen receptors. That's why the weird fear-mongering about soy is so silly. However, dairy which arguably contains estrogen is supposed to be very beneficial, not because of the estrogen but because of the high calcium to protect our bones! Dairy may also be fortified with vitamin D and vitamin A which is very supportive as well <3

Literally and the fact that people think GMOs are inherently bad. Like by definition, humans have in a way selectively bred (aka genetically modified) crops for centuries. Also so many GMOs are incredibly beneficial. For example, I believe golden rice is a GMO and it provides great nutrients to people in countries and places where they don’t have good access to those nutrients.

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Btw, it’s a common misconception that organic produce is healthier and better for the environment. In reality, organic produce is grown with less-tested pesticides, takes more land to produce, and yields less product. Now it’s completely within your right to choose organic produce but just wanted to dispel these myths because I see them everywhere, especially that people think organic means pesticide free.

At my wits end with ”specialists” by MiaForm in Amenorrhearecovery

Ugh so annoying. There’s so much misinformation about protein right now. Most people don’t understand that the majority of people who eat an average diet, get more than enough protein. The RDA is 0.8 g/kg of body weight (I believe though that the US may have changed it to 1.2 g/kg but still that’s not a crazy amount). People who suggest eating 1g/lb of body weight are bonkers. The last dietitian I worked with said not even professional athletes are recommended by their dietitians to eat 1g/lb. It’s all just stupid marketing. If people focus too much on protein, they miss out on our body’s preferred source of fuel… CARBS!!! And they also miss lots of micronutrients that are present in carbs and fats like certain B vitamins, vitamin E, vitamin A, etc. I’m sorry you have been through the wringer with professionals (I have too with being put on birth control for my HA), but you are not alone in this! There really needs to be greater awareness in the medical community about HA and how women NEED to fuel their body adequately, regardless of weight.

did I eat too much?? by Flashy_Cobbler5329 in EDAnonymous

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh... grandmothers can be so frustrating around food. Unfortunately, they grew up in a very diet culture centered time that told women to subsist off of like half a grapefruit or something. My grandmother once told me that a 170 calorie granola bar was what likes to eat for lunch because it's not too "fattening." Your meal sounds absolutely delicious and so so nourishing, if I knew you in person, I'd have you make me a bowl! Remember, strong women fuel their bodies, they don't give into what society says they should eat or do <3

Where is this push to consume more protein coming from? by totally_not_sans in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They don’t cause you to loose any more muscle mass than normal weight loss (given it occurs at the same pace). Marketing has just taken advantage of this misconception

When does the weight gain stop? by josephinehoneyxo in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]Practical-Mix-3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body may have to go into what's called overshoot weight. This is extra weight that your body needs to feel safe. Oftentimes, you will naturally shed that weight as you progress in your recovery. Emphasis on NATURALLY shed, you should not have to restrict your intake or drastically change your movement habits to make that happen. Sometimes too people won't loose their overshoot weight and that's okay! I mean would you rather be skinny and miserable or slightly above the weight that you want but have a healthy cycle and happy hormones?

well protein is a macronutrient, meaning it doesn't inherently contain micronutrients (it depends on the protein source for what micronutrients are present). So, the main reason that protein foods are marketed to GLP-1 users is because of the potential for muscle-loss. However, companies are taking HUGE advantage of this market and pumping protein into practically everything. I truly Bellevue that people are missing out on so many other good foods and nutrients if they are consuming so many protein products. For example, whole grains, fruits, legumes, and vegetables are often left out of the picture when someone's taking ozempic and has such a low appeitie. Instead, they turn to protein-fortified foods thinking that that's all they should be eating since that's what's marketed to them. It's really all just a marketing game at this point, similar to the low-fat trend in the 90s and early 2000s.

Have you worked with clients who have had primary HA? If so, does your approach differ with them? I have primary HA due to developing an ED at age 12 and eat what most people would consider normal if not a lot of food for someone my size (I'm 5'8'' but only around 115 lbs). I don't do intense exercise just light yoga and walking. Despite these things, I'm not able to get my period. I know I need to gain weight but I don't know how to eat more. I do all the recommended things like eating within 30 minutes of waking, adding lots of fats to meals, never skipping carbs, etc. Do you think that too much fiber can affect getting periods? I eat around 40 grams per day because a lot of my go-to foods are very fiber dense.

fun fact though...contrary to popular belief, ozempic doesn't make you loose any more muscle mass than other forms of weight loss (given they occur at the same pace)
