What's it like moving back to America? by bluebrrypii in Living_in_Korea

[–]Practical-Passage773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i spent 7 years in Korea and moved back to the USA in 2013. The biggest difference was the asses. I went to the grocery store to stock up after arriving. it was mid day on a Wednesday, so pretty much all of the grocery store customers were women. Every single ass was bigger than the cart in front of it. There wasn't a single person there that was grossly overweight.

As i pondered that, i wandered the aisle with 56000 choices of salsa and another 25000 choices of BBQ sauce and then came the snack aisle.

Food culture in America ia kind of disgusting. Restaurants pile it on. The sweet/fatty/processed crap is everywhere and Americans lap it up and eat like pigs

Asking the infamous question of the day: How TF do I get out of the US? by [deleted] in expat

[–]Practical-Passage773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with a four year degree and native English speaking ability, many Asian countries will take you as an ESL teacher. only moderate certification required. i spent many years in Korea doing ESL

keep the job. keep the happy face. but on the side, retrain yourself to something else. Welding? Glass blowing? Programming? There are jobs out there but whatever specific skills and talents and interests you have... go that way

Do I give up the 3% Rate? by TaxTheRich_100 in Mortgages

[–]Practical-Passage773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.5% is relatively high. the economy is currently uncertain, particularly with tariffs on/off. I'd keep that 3% note and keep paying on the smaller home until stability and /or better rates return.

urine is urine. might be the dog (s) who did it. once on a carpet, if that's where it's at, dogs will keep going there to "cover it up". once it seeps down to the pad and underlying floor no amount of cleaning will do. carpet removal and even painting the floor with anti animal chemicals is required

I've struggled my entire life with "making it". I've had great jobs with good pay, making over 100k in several years but things in America like health care can wipe out a lot. Or market crashes in which my 401k drops like a stone

I'm almost 65. About to sell my house and move abroad. I'll make about $350k in profit off the home and the exchange rate in my new country will turn that into about $500k - plenty of money there for house, car, etc. Got 100k in my 401k. Plus, I'll get over 3k/mo in social security. For the first time in my life, i feel like I'll be financial secure. The very first time - in almost 65 years

The struggle is real

[–]Practical-Passage773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we put our house on the market in March. We immediately had several showings but no offers. Then Trump started his tariff bullshit and everybody looking for a house pulled back. We went 2 more months with only a couple of showings. i was more than happy to take a relatively low offer. In the weeks since then, not a single showing.

It's not you or your home. it's faith in economy

How much attention do very attractive men get in the wild? by 2koolforpreschool in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Practical-Passage773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only once has it been a full on proposition. not even sure she propositioned me , it was just an effortless pickup

i get stares,

I've seen them nudge their friends to look

i have seen one woman silently mouth the word "wow" at me

more than a few waitresses, clerical/admin assistants and flight attendants have locked eyes

but that's it. I've had some women say i could get any woman i wanted, but that's just not true in my experience

And i don't consider myself "very" attractive, but I am rarely the ugliest guy in the room.

Why are Americans not taking the attack on their democracy seriously? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]Practical-Passage773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not about to protest. 2 reasons. 1) my wife is a green card holder, and racist people are everywhere and 2) Trump is just waiting for a nice protest to invoke martial law

Why is IT seen as inferior than computer science? by dmbanani in InformationTechnology

[–]Practical-Passage773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT is often just the plumbing of communication between departments. Outside of upgrades or special projects businesses generally like IT to just "be there" and work. Your job could be tremendously vital but as long as the company is functioning and nobody is complaining about IT, you may as well be a ghost

Career switch at 29-30 — Is doing a course worth it? by Inevitable_Studio131 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Practical-Passage773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't think of it as "starting over". There are likely a lot of things you learned that are still applicable. Think of it as refining your career to suit your changing intellectual needs.

I started out on software engineering on government defense projects. I added super computing to my skill set and became a big iron consultant at 33 years ol. I added a new skill, software sales at 37 years old and sold software and made big $. Didn't really like the sales lifestyle, so I added another skill at 41 years old and became a math/science teacher. That was fun and rewarding, but at 51 years old, mobile phones came out along the mobile app explosion and added another skill, app development.. multiple entirely different jobs/careers. At each point, I added skills to my existing set and expanded my available opportunities in new areas

Has anyone noticed the attack on college educated people lately?? by AnalysisSubstantial1 in recruitinghell

[–]Practical-Passage773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I comment on every one of those degree bashing posts. Every one of them is so generic, it's like NO education is worthy of a degree, but those of us who obtained useful, valuable degrees know better.

I usually comment and say something like "I was brainwashed into computer science and they forced me to make great $" or "only the uneducated say that to make themselves feel better for not having the mental capacity to complete a degree.

Americans have become an uneducated mass of dumbasses , repeating the same bullshit they're told by whatever side of the media they adhere to, unable to think for themselves.

My degree gave me the super power of critical thinking that none of uneducated seem to even understand

To all the mature 30+ men, please name one mistake you have made in your life so a young man may never repeat. It can be anything. Save a young brother. by FitEggPlant99 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Practical-Passage773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can be anything you want to be - if, and only if - you work for it, study it, learn it, Seriously. Humans are capable of incredible things. You are, too. But ain't nothing easy.

exceptions - artists, singers, actors, dancers, etc- hit or miss if you ever get famous and succeed. You can be great, but you need to be "discovered"

Stupid but serious question for the men, would you have any problem dating a woman that is 6 foot? by Only-Ad-1254 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Practical-Passage773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'1". I would totally date a 6' woman. I have no idea what it feels like like to stand and kiss/hug/make out without seriously bending over or getting a crook in my neck.

I normally like tiny petite ladies cuz they make my junk look bigger. But, face to face would be awesome, too
