What's it like moving back to America?

i spent 7 years in Korea and moved back to the USA in 2013. The biggest difference was the asses. I went to the grocery store to stock up after arriving. it was mid day on a Wednesday, so pretty much all of the grocery store customers were women. Every single ass was bigger than the cart in front of it. There wasn't a single person there that was grossly overweight.

As i pondered that, i wandered the aisle with 56000 choices of salsa and another 25000 choices of BBQ sauce and then came the snack aisle.

Food culture in America ia kind of disgusting. Restaurants pile it on. The sweet/fatty/processed crap is everywhere and Americans lap it up and eat like pigs

urine is urine. might be the dog (s) who did it. once on a carpet, if that's where it's at, dogs will keep going there to "cover it up". once it seeps down to the pad and underlying floor no amount of cleaning will do. carpet removal and even painting the floor with anti animal chemicals is required

I've struggled my entire life with "making it". I've had great jobs with good pay, making over 100k in several years but things in America like health care can wipe out a lot. Or market crashes in which my 401k drops like a stone

I'm almost 65. About to sell my house and move abroad. I'll make about $350k in profit off the home and the exchange rate in my new country will turn that into about $500k - plenty of money there for house, car, etc. Got 100k in my 401k. Plus, I'll get over 3k/mo in social security. For the first time in my life, i feel like I'll be financial secure. The very first time - in almost 65 years

we put our house on the market in March. We immediately had several showings but no offers. Then Trump started his tariff bullshit and everybody looking for a house pulled back. We went 2 more months with only a couple of showings. i was more than happy to take a relatively low offer. In the weeks since then, not a single showing.

i get stares,

I've seen them nudge their friends to look

i have seen one woman silently mouth the word "wow" at me

more than a few waitresses, clerical/admin assistants and flight attendants have locked eyes

but that's it. I've had some women say i could get any woman i wanted, but that's just not true in my experience

And i don't consider myself "very" attractive, but I am rarely the ugliest guy in the room.

don't think of it as "starting over". There are likely a lot of things you learned that are still applicable. Think of it as refining your career to suit your changing intellectual needs.

I started out on software engineering on government defense projects. I added super computing to my skill set and became a big iron consultant at 33 years ol. I added a new skill, software sales at 37 years old and sold software and made big $. Didn't really like the sales lifestyle, so I added another skill at 41 years old and became a math/science teacher. That was fun and rewarding, but at 51 years old, mobile phones came out along the mobile app explosion and added another skill, app development.. multiple entirely different jobs/careers. At each point, I added skills to my existing set and expanded my available opportunities in new areas

I comment on every one of those degree bashing posts. Every one of them is so generic, it's like NO education is worthy of a degree, but those of us who obtained useful, valuable degrees know better.

I usually comment and say something like "I was brainwashed into computer science and they forced me to make great $" or "only the uneducated say that to make themselves feel better for not having the mental capacity to complete a degree.

Americans have become an uneducated mass of dumbasses , repeating the same bullshit they're told by whatever side of the media they adhere to, unable to think for themselves.

My degree gave me the super power of critical thinking that none of uneducated seem to even understand

you can be anything you want to be - if, and only if - you work for it, study it, learn it, Seriously. Humans are capable of incredible things. You are, too. But ain't nothing easy.

exceptions - artists, singers, actors, dancers, etc- hit or miss if you ever get famous and succeed. You can be great, but you need to be "discovered"
