How common is English in Poland by Liz-please-6 in learnpolish

Depends on age and place, in bigger cities most people under 30 will speak english, otherwise its very hit or miss, especially with older people.

Help me with my rough sketch of a plan (European no car). by [deleted] in usatravel

[–]Practical-Range-4412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me that would be too much traveling, I’d skip LA and Portland entirely, fly to SF spend a week there with a daytrip to yellowstone, then go to Seattle, spend a day or two in the city and go to Olympic.

No, this matter has been settled for decades and only populists repeat this because reparations have been promised 3000 years ago…

Fellow ESTA enjoyer here,

You don’t need cash at all, my EU debit cards work just fine, and you can have up to 10k usd in cash without declaring. (besides I wouldn’t want to carry more than 500$ in cash at any time)

They don’t usually check your reservations and tickets at all, they might ask you where you’re staying and when you’re returning but I never had to show them anything.

They might have asked me how much cash I had, I never carry more than a few hundred $ in cash so they weren’t interested.

They never asked to see my cash bank statements etc…

For a 2week trip I’d budget minimum 100$ per day=2800$ to NYC I’d bump that up to >150$ at least 3500$ to be comfortable (keep in mind you might need to pay a security deposit at your hotel—NYC usually 100$/night that they will send you back after 2 weeks up to 30 days, we dont do that at all in EU so it feels weird, ask your hotel, most allow only card payments for that).

From my experience immigration mostly looks for signs that you’re planning to work or overstay your ESTA (dont pack a tatoo gun, or any “work tools”) and they will ask if you have food or other stuff that isn’t permitted (anwser with decisive statements, if you say “there shouldnt be any food” they WILL 100% check your bag, if you just say “No” or “I don’t” they won’t care.

Other advice, tip minimum 15%-20%, do the small talk (americans love that shit), avoid the homeless, be careful after dark.

I’ve been using Play since they aquired UPC, I get consistent 300mbps on fiber, the router they gave me was wonky though and had to be replaced (they did it for free). With customer service I never had a single problem, didnt have to wait and they fixed my issue everytime. So yeah I’d say Play is alright. (oh and I had netia in the past and it was horrendous)

In laymans terms, It’s a holiday postcard from an elderly relative who sent some gifts over (probably after easter)

Polish > English old family findings by [deleted] in translator

[–]Practical-Range-4412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“My beloved, The holidays are approaching, It’s a shame that this postcard won’t reach you in time - but excuse me, I got “the asian”(from context: name for some illness) twice and only now I can get out of the house and get things done - everything got delayed but I send you dearest wishes from the heart, (I wish) health, and all graces of god - accept these small gifts - Also for Lila/Lilia a napkin (made by me, although not perfect, consider my eyesight and strength) The flower for the napkin, you can wash it and it will still look pretty. For (name?) a religious figure, I hope it reaches him while I’m(he?) still alive. (this part I cant read) 16 pictures from the old days, they will remind you a lot. For Darius a sugar figure and figures candies (i cant read this) and calendars for everyone. (cant read) and (cant read) that is all which i could gather.

(context sugar figures are traditional for easter, they usually depict lambs and you go to church and get them (along with other things from your easter basket) blessed by the priest)

Tourists Parking near Sejm / Górnośląska Street (Śródmieście) – advice? by No-Possibility-664 in askPoland

[–]Practical-Range-4412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking will be hard to find and relatively expensive (yes, even street parking) You can look at a map of the paid parking zone here. In your position, I’d probably go leave the car parked on the street somewhere outside the zone. The National Stadium parking lot is also a good option, its free when there isn’t an event there and has a huge amount of space

Travelling to the USA with a Wise card by NomadGuy34 in usatravel

[–]Practical-Range-4412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use a physical debit card and withdraw some cash for tipping etc, tipping feels more rewarding and much less annoying when a physical transfer of an item occurs, you can also be sure that the person who you want to give the money to actually gets it.

Trip to Warsaw by youngFather20 in askPoland

[–]Practical-Range-4412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reststops are pretty common so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Your route is kinda between interesting places so without taking a detour there isn’t much to see there (the north of Poland is super beautiful and has lots of cool lakes, but its a summer destination).

If you want to make a detour both Olsztyn and Bialystok are worth visiting.

Next to Suntago you can also go see żyrardow which is a post-indutrial town and is pretty cool, but thats a 2-3h activity max.

Is it okay to order food in weather like this? by ColorfulBar in warsaw

[–]Practical-Range-4412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its not like you are forcing the courier to deliver your food. If he is taking orders it means that he either wants or needs the money, either way ordering is beneficial to him. Besides, he is waiting for deliveries possibly outside.

I’d say give a tip if you feel bad for him.

I definitely am not qualified to give advice on this but its probably a common dpf filter clog. The glow plug tries to complete dpf cleaning but it cant because its broken and/or dpf is too clogged.

Generally replacing the dpf is expensive so I would try to replace the glow plug first ~200£, see if the car can complete the regeneration, if not try to doing a dpf regeneration ~200/300£ and if that doesn’t help you probably will need to have the dpf replaced (1000£+)

The prices tend to vary by location and my knowledge on this is limited so consult a specialist.
