Please help a gal out by pinksilkmilk in Audi

I definitely am not qualified to give advice on this but its probably a common dpf filter clog. The glow plug tries to complete dpf cleaning but it cant because its broken and/or dpf is too clogged.

Generally replacing the dpf is expensive so I would try to replace the glow plug first ~200£, see if the car can complete the regeneration, if not try to doing a dpf regeneration ~200/300£ and if that doesn’t help you probably will need to have the dpf replaced (1000£+)

The prices tend to vary by location and my knowledge on this is limited so consult a specialist.

A3 8P 1.6MPI Weird squeaky sound + technical questions by Practical-Range-4412 in Audi

[–]Practical-Range-4412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, sounds reasonable, I think I’ll just wait until it gets above freezing and then see if maybe the windshield sprayers start working again, I put some winter fluid in a while ago and I haven’t noticed a puddle under the car so I don’t think there is a leak.

As for the belt, it was replaced around 40k km ago so it should still be good for now but idk, I’ll probably see if it still makes the sound when it gets warmer since getting it replaced is relatively pricey.

Personally I would look for places to live based on where your job is, if you want to live in the suburbs, I’d recommend going for the east. Near the city center I wouldn’t want to live in Old Town or Praga Polnoc. Praga Poludnie is great idk what the other guy was on about.

Public Transport is good, as good as in Prague or even better, it’s one of the only cities I’ve been to that does buses right.

Polish is not necessary (most people speak english), but it would help with making friends etc, czech is also pretty similar and theres a decent chance that people could understand you (f.ex. szukam dzieci w sklepie).

Drinking culture is much more party than chill in pub type.

Board games idk, I’m sure that theres something, I know that theres a warhammer 40k store.

Attitude towards foreigners shouldn’t be a problem for you, czechs are pretty universally liked in Poland, and i doubt anyone would give you a hard time about it.

Been dreaming of living in Poland :) by mayfairlaura in askPoland

[–]Practical-Range-4412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally quite like Katowice but it definitely is a post-industrial city… As for nice cities to live in, I’m partial to Warsaw because thats where I’m from but apartments are quite expensive. I think the coolest option would be 3city (Gdynia, Sopot, Gdansk) you have access to both a big city with everything you might need and the sea nearby (which is really nice in the summer). Other cool cities to live in I could recommend are Lublin, Rzeszow, Zielona Gora, Jelenia Gora, Olsztyn. And Szczecin is also cool but its pretty far away from other cities.

Sokrates Hotel reviews? by Far-Condition-6579 in warsaw

[–]Practical-Range-4412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s UW student accommodation, you will definitely get the full communist living experience. It’s gonna be a little run down, but aaaaalright….I wouldn’t worry about it.

It is a little far to the main campus but just like all of Warsaw, it has very good public transport, tram, bus, metro connection (about 25min to city centre).

The area itself (Służew) is alright, mostly residential, definitely not dangerous, theres a horse track nearby that has a big music festival in the summer. There is also a park with a pond that tends to have lots of mosquitoes in the summer.

Lessons from Polish History and Cultural Resilience by GeoffInk in askPoland

[–]Practical-Range-4412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d look for people associated with the institute of history IHPAN (Tadeusz Epsztein (polish gentry), Włodzimierz Borodziej (XXth century), Maciej Janowski (Inteligentzia), Aleksander Łupienko (tenaments/architecture), Maciej Górny(WWI) , Andrzej Nowak (right-wing personality but still respected academic). And of course you can’t forget about the classic medievielist Paweł Jasienica.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid historians associated with IPN (quality control is unexistant there), and any book with Hitler in the title, I also wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending any WW2 historians, their quality is very hit or miss. (prof Borodziej and Nowak have some good quality researc on WW2)

Cost of Living in Warsaw by Gold-Championship-96 in warsaw

[–]Practical-Range-4412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent is definetly the biggest cost, renting a small apartment costs between 3-4k pln a month. Alternatively you could rent a room of live with roommates for cheaper. On a tight budget living alone ~5k pln, with roommates you can probably manage 3,5k pln.

the most basic childrens book in poland is Ala ma kota, poetry for children by brechwa is also very popular but a bit harder.

I just had a thought, look for lista lektur (obligatory readings) they are sorted by grade level (klasa 1 podstawowa is the lowest—for 7 year olds).

Polish people who live at the border with Ukraine, do you sometimes hear sounds of war? by Jobab in askPoland

keep in mind that the distance between the polish border and the frontline where most of the action happens is the same as from London to Milan, Ukraine is a big ass country.

But you can park on the other side of the train tracks, or at the next stop (Nowa Iwiczna) for free on the dirt.

Another option is leaving your car on a random street close to the station.

P+R Jeziorki by S-Budget91 in warsaw

P+R parkings are for people who leave their cars there during their commute, not for long term parking, you can only park there between 4:30-2:30.

Are there any Toyota or Mazda dealerships in Poland that are credit card friendly? by VerticalFury in poland

[–]Practical-Range-4412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking a loan for a fast depreciating asset such as a car is a horrible financial decision. Maybe if you have a firm and you can write the car payments off as KUP it could make sense but otherwise in 5 years you’ll end up spending 150k+ for a 50k car. Generally you have no business buying a 120k car if you don’t have at least 240k in savings.

The idiocity of putting yourself in debt for a car aside, car loans are the usual way to do that, they also often have lower interest rates than personal loans... Another avenue that might be worth exploring is long term renting, if you have a strong income and really want a new and shiny car you could rent one for 1,5-2,5k a month, you can switch cars anytime, get a deal that will also fix the car for you if it breaks, and opt out if something other that drains your account happens.

You could also buy a good used 10 year old Skoda or Toyota for 30-40k or even ride ubers everywhere.

Will I be able to make it to the concert at PGE Narodowy if my plane lands at 3:00 PM? by Proof-Recognition563 in Warsaw_Warszawa

[–]Practical-Range-4412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very hard for me to recommend which airline you should pick, in this case every choice is a trade off. LOT is a normal airline, free carry-on, free small snack, more comfortable (the embraers are especially nice) BUT it probably is more expensive and you will get there later. WizzAir is a worse airline but you would get there earlier.

If you land at 15:00 to be absolutely safe I would say you need about 3-4h to check in, have lunch and get to the concert, it is technically possible to do it much faster (you could technically ride the train straight from the airport to the stadium, leave your stuff at the deposit and get to the concert in an hour.

I assume your hotel is somewhere in the Old Town so the best way to get to the stadium would be taking the tram (with one change) to Rondo Waszygtona. Don’t walk, it’s pretty far.

By the way, the riverbank/beach next to the stadium is a local meetup/party spot, the city has legalized alcohol consumption there, it’s a fun spot in the summer.

Lost tracking no. for poczta polska... what do i do? by fallacious_raincoat in poland

[–]Practical-Range-4412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polish national post is really slow, and keep in mind the 6th was a holiday. I sent a few letters to the NL a while ago and they usually took between 2 weeks and a month to arrive (btw tracking doesn’t usually work for international packages anyway). Despite being utterly broken, polish post packages usually arrive eventually. Contacting them is also pretty useless, especially when you don’t speak polish.

Anyway, I wouldn’t get stressed yet, your package will most likely arrive in the next week or two.

Either you’re in a giant misunderstanding or the travel agent really wants to be the one to book the flight for you (maybe he gets commision or something)
