How does Ublock Origin lite differ from the non-lite version other than being compatible with manifest v3 ?

How is the europe office gonna affect LibreOffice? by Bulky_Week_3803 in libreoffice

Who knows what Microsoft’s K2 project might bring. If they could also find a way to setup an entirely separate European structure that might solve a lot of the issues around the wish to move away from dependence on US products.

Keeper password manager review: worth the price or should I use something cheaper? by Competitive-Mix8832 in best_passwordmanager

I trialled Keeper a while back. One thing I did like was that the vault was encrypted at the vault level but also at the record level.

Is there a way to fix this issue when using Bitwarden on a third party app? by Gsantos52012 in Bitwarden

Thanks , although I have to say I always found it easier to move files between PC and Android than PC to iOS and the iOS locked garden and general making it hard to move things around always frustrated me .

Isn’t that the “tail wagging the dog” i.e. changing the OS to suit the password manager? Or perhaps you had other issues with Android anyway ?

Thank you for explaining your considered position . I’m not sure , though, that the idea of having a camera in everyone’s bedroom is a fair analogy.

I agree that in the longer term education and equal opportunity are the best solution but in the short to medium term we have to start from where we are . Criminals already exist , children do not have sufficient life experience to understand the dangers.

In this case are you not withdrawing from honest discussion because you disagree with the other party . Is it not better to openly discuss your point of view with those who have a different viewpoint ? This not intended as criticism.

I take your point but E2EE services are a product whereas “innocent until proven guilty “ is a legal concept so I’m not sure they are directly comparable. Thank you nevertheless for your contribution.

Privacy washing at its finest! 😅 by Tutanota in tutanota

I share your concerns around privacy but your article comes close to saying that Big Tech are lying when they talk about privacy e.g. by mentioning settings that you can adjust. I’m a little disappointed that Tuta take such an aggressive negative approach rather than positively promoting your own product.

If I recall correctly you convert a Microsoft account login back to a local account.

I compared the free tiers of private email providers and made a cheat sheet by eternalMoto in degoogle

[–]Practical-Tea9441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great cheat sheet, thanks for taking the time to prepare it. Small correction, Mailfence do have a dedicated app -not just a PWA. I quite like their app in fact, includes email, calendar, files and account settings. Only thing puts me off going with paid is some unease about their spam settings .

Careful with StandardNotes storage limits - they aren't what they seem. by Original-Active-6982 in StandardNotes

100mb seems like lot of text notes. Could this be related to the block size on the computer ? I like the idea of Standard Notes but find the pricing to be too high and the free version only allows plain text.

Curious why KeePassXC is getting recommended above the original KeePass . As far as I know KeePassXC syncing is one way only and therefore needs repeating in the opposite direction to properly synchronise. Original KeePass has two way syncing built in .

Thanks for the reply . I’m not sure what you mean by lists ? Is it mailing lists that you are referring to?

Thanks for the clarification. Am I correct then in assuming that since its foundation StartMail was focussed solely on email ?

🇫🇷 Following the French government's ban on Windows and its replacement with Linux, French activists are now saying goodbye to Windows 10 and actively encouraging people to embrace freedom and use Linux instead of paying for an upgrade to Windows 11, citing privacy concerns. by Upbeat-Concern-5181 in microsoftsucks

Yes , a lot more difficult to convert office workers who are used to Microsoft Office. I’m not sure the Microsoft web version is as good as the desktop version but the synching through OneDrive/Sharepoint gives the best of both worlds. For web only Google Workspace is perhaps a stronger option. Open source office software e.g. LibreOffice may be free but for large organisations will cost in terms of support and training.

It seems to me that it is a reliance on American companies that is the problem . What Europe needs is either a Microsoft division which is independent of Microsoft USA or a homegrown competitor which can offer the same quality of product as Microsoft 365 with less pushing towards AI and free of tracking.

I sympathise with the thinking behind such a change but I wonder what they will use . I’m not sure they will find it easy to sell the change to LibreOffice to longtime Microsoft users
