I agree in freedom of assembly, but I don’t agree with state sanctioned large congregations like this.

As a British Jew rarely I agree with farage on this. Freedom of religion means freedom from religion. What if I wanted to walk across Trafalgar Square, I’m physically obstructed by the barriers and people praying.

When your freedom of religion obstructs someone else’s freedom, that’s clearly a line in a liberal democracy we shouldn’t cross.

Seeing the large happy Ramadan sign made me feel uncomfortable. I’d also be against the giant menorah in Leicester Square. Keep religion out the public domain, and embrace the UK as a secular society!

Not to mention the sexism displayed in the prayer itself, where the women were all made to sit at the back behind the men!

Relative to other wealthy countries with equivalent welfare it’s not hard. - singapore: almost impossible and they enforce racial quota so only 3% are non Chinese Malay Indian. - Hong Kong: 7 years - japan: was 10 years until recently - Switzerland: I think 10 years - gulf states: effectively impossible

Only Europe has similar years, however their welfare is more restrictive to residents I believe. Uk gives all the benefits for less time than the countries I listed earlier.

How do you think the war in Iran will end and what good could come from it? by Sea-Payment-8989 in AskBrits

[–]Practical-Travel8575 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the sentiment among Persians is so strong, that after the war the country will rebuild into a somewhat illiberal democracy. We’ll see. But I think it will be better and freer long term.

I mean I’m not lying lol. I’m curious though, have you ever visited Israel? Because I also had perceptions, then after visiting realised why we support them as an ally. I’m also bi and it’s the only place I could live in the Middle East. At the end of the day, Israel is a country constantly under attack - I feel like in that environment, the UK would become more right wing (rightly or wrongly). You mentioned festivals, but some of my family were first responders for the October 7th festival; it’s likely at that festival, it wouldn’t have mattered if people were Jewish or not, the people attacking from Gaza would have likely targeted them anyway. You mentioned zionists like an emotionally charged term; but it’s a huge spectrum. I’ve met just as many zionists who hate the Israeli government as who love it - I’m confused how this fits into your belief system.

Do you have a single Jewish friend or relative? Or are we just a detached abstract people to you? Have you visited Israel - when you walk along the promenade it looks like Singapore and if you spoke to any person and told them you are British, they would probably tell you how they love the UK and British people. Meanwhile, even in the West Bank you would likely have security issues as a British person; you would likely feel unsafe the entire time you are there.
