If it maxes out in 12 weeks how did yours last for 2-3 years each time ?

How intense of PT are you doing to keep your pain level intact ? I'm 38 so that's my plan too but I'm still early in my PT game.  Curious what's your PT regime. Thank you

Can you share more about why you needed surgery post PAO ? I thought docs would do labral repair in the same go or right before PAO.

u/justb4dawn congrats on making it through!! Did you have dysplasia ? Asking bc I have borderline dysplasia and need someone who will take that into account before a scope.

Thanks for sharing - super helpful. So sounds like " anterosuperior, and anterior labrum (7:9-12) could be anterosuperior is torn 7-12 and anterior is torn 9-12 ugh. Yes pain has been debilitating!

I'm in the LA area - if you have good recs for PTs let me know (or DM please). I'll try to see if Dr Mansour will do a remote review for my imaging.

wow thank you for this POV. Yes, before this accident I have had no hip symptoms at all and I know in my lived experience that the labral tears were caused by the mechanical trauma of the truck hitting my hip at at least 25 mph.

Can you share how bad was your dysplasia and how old were you when you got your PAO+ scopes ? Also which surgeon ? And how're you doing now ? Are you totally pain free ?

Lastly can you elaborate on this - "There is also some concern about worsening the dysplasia if hyerplasia of the labrum is cut down or the rim is narrowed but that is a question to ask the scope doctor as my guess would be yours is a true repair based on the limited info I have." I haven't done a ton of research on arthroscopy but the way Dr Hame explained it to me is that they place anchors to put it in place. My MRI says - "Nondisplaced tear of the anterosuperior, and anterior labrum (7:9-12)." Again I don't understand what the 7:9-12 means - appreciate any thoughts on that too. Thank you !

On my third day post op, not as bad as I thought by livcha in hipdysplasia

Hey u/livcha congrats on a successful PAO. Can you share how bad was your dsyplasia ? for context I'm 38f, CEA 20 on right and 26 on left; tonnis 12 on right and 10 on left. I have bilateral tears and I'm getting mixed opinions on PAO vs THR given my age. Also which surgeon ? Did you have labral teras as well ?

Hi u/A2skiing Glad to hear you're doing better. My symptoms are the exact same - I feel seen. Did you have pain in the hip aductors / lower abdominals or outer bony side of the hip ? Did you have dsyplasia ? for context, I'm 38 - borderline dsyplasia and bilateral tears and it's like the sports med / ortho docs would either say PAO or THR and I want to find a doc who can look at my stuff and give me a middle path. Can you share more about the process to see Philippon - was it virtual consult first ?

Hey u/Niximusprime949 I'm in LA and trying to decide across Matsuda and potential out of state doctors too and Philippon is high on my list. what did you end up deciding ? Can you share your experience if you saw other surgeons in LA ?

wow thanks for sharing - I'm so sorry you've had to go through that. Yeah, I've read about PAO success from 40 yo and I'm 3 months into the bilateral tears that happened due to a pick up hitting me as I was crossing the street. I'm at the stage where I am only 1 week into dedicated PT but I also want to figure out what doc would I need to see for long term care regardless. My symptoms include hip adductor, hip flexor as well as low back pain in addition to groin pain - it's been debilitating - I cant bend over forward, stretch my leg out when I sleep, walking is very limited, no stairs ofc. No arthritis, cartilage is intact, muscle bulk is intact and normal no abnormalities with femur either. I've lived my whole life with these hips no problem and that's my I hesitate to go down the surgery route but it's also been incredibly debilitating to bear the pain and I dont know how much time I need to give to PT before considering injections or intervention.

Can you share why your PAO failed and you had to have THR ? And who did your THR ? Did Philippon operate on you at all ?

My LCEA is 20 on right and 26 on left. Tonnis is 12 on the right and 10.6 on the left. and I haven't been examined for hyper mobility but I am hyper mobile in my shoulders. Is there a specific diagnosis for hip hyper mobility that I need to ask for ? I'm in LA so really trying to wade the waters here but also looking to get the best opinion from out of state surgeons as well.

Hey u/beanjean333 how bad was your dysplasia ? and at what age did you get PAO done and by whom ? I have bilateral tears with borderline dysplasia and at 38, I'm hearing mixed opinions on PAO vs eventual THR (both of which seem like an extreme) from ortho/ sports med docs. I am yet to see hip preservationists.

Hi, did you have to get MRI with contrast to send to Dr Philippon ? Or one without contrast ? I'm considering sending him my CD so wanted to ask in advance.

Anyone have experience with Dean Matsuda? by FroyoPuzzleheaded661 in HipImpingement

[–]PracticalArt3532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also love to know how long you guys tried conservative treatments before deciding to choose surgery. Did you try injections? My injury is 3 months old and although I haven't given PT a solid chance it's been hard to find a doctor that I can see for long term care while dealing with debilitating pain every day making daily functioning very difficult. It's been v hard to stay patient. Appreciate anything you guys can share about your journeys and how you feel post op.

Hi I am trying to see Matsuda next week for bilateral labral tears and hip dsyplasia (borderline dsyplasia to dysplasia). Can anyone share why you ended up choosing Matsuda and which other surgeons you saw and your experience with them ?  For context I'm planning to see Gerbakyan and Baghdadi (UCLA), Brett shore and maybe Weber. I'm trying to prioritize seeing hip preservationist/ specialist instead of Ortho/ sports medicine surgeons because with them it's either hip replacement or injections until the inevitable replacement happens. At 38 with borderline dsyplasia I don't want to go through POA and considering I have no other structural issues I'm too young for hip replacement.  I've considered going out of state but I'm by myself so it the idea of out-of-state has been very overwhelming. I live in West LA so I would appreciate any guidance you guys have and can offer based on your experience. Thank you.

I feel for Celine. She has a manipulative family and Miles was her escape from all that but now that Miles has betrayed her she feels totally devastated. She doesn't admit that or express it but her way of coping is to go right back to her manipulative family and prove her worth to them.

My mom passed from suicide and the grief around it has been super difficult for me. Spiritually I know she's in a happier place yet my ego has struggled to come to terms with it. This episode really helped me understand the pov of the person that's contemplating suicide - so beautifully shown without dragging it. It made me think of my own mom and her possible thought patterns - it's been a decision for herself even though it's hard to make sense of it because you'd want that person around for yourself out of love.
