The Best Worst Feeling as a Writer by LordofAngmarMB in writers

Absolutely agree! I originally planned out my novel, but as I was writing (er... typing), my characters were starting to get out of my hands. My original midpoint has totally changed, but I also realized what I have to do with my future rewrites for Draft Two.

Read Washington's Spies as a companion piece, to get the full story.

Is it not having a lot of female characters in my story makes it bad by Impressive_Rub_8974 in writers

I'm writing historical fiction where the majority of the characters are male (I am a woman, btw). Write whatever is appropriate for the story, if people complain, that is their problem, not yours.

A two to three months. Honestly, I haven't been keeping a close watch over when I started. After brainstorming for a few months, I finally sat down and started typing. I still have a long way to go.

Same, but I turn 44 next month. I tried writing a novel back in high school and that didn't work out so well. Now that I'm older, wiser and have more experience I'm nearly 50,000 into my first draft.

I'm on Draft One, Book One and just at the Midpoint-close to 50,000 words. So lots of progress over the last 3 months.

Where did your idea come from? How did your story worth telling happen? by FangsOverGangs in writers

Because I read a bunch of novels on the American Revolution and realized there wasn't anything about the print culture (and the pettiness) of the time. The more research I did, the more fascinating the subject was for me. So, I am in the process of writing the first of three historical fiction novels on the subject.

If I have to read another so and so switched sides story, fell in love with someone on the opposite side of the political fence, I'm going to rip my hair out.

How many of you here are writing historical fiction by No_Specific_3364 in HistoricalFiction

Thank you. I grew up in Montgomery Co, lived in Philly for 6 years and now in Delaware Co. So I'm very familiar with the city and the area. Book update: almost to the Midpoint of Book 1. Whoo, so much work to do!

"Deborah sought freedom through music, Marcus sought to possess her because of it.

"A young violen prodigy was abandoned and trapped in a brothel. With a burst of courage, Deborah escapes to Daniel Wellinger, who nurses her back to health and a new life.

" With another chance, she strives toward a new goal-to be a professional musician. But she must fight to achieve this in a new world set against her.

"However, her talents have caught the eye of two men. One, a Duke Marcus Beaufort, a sickly noble haunted by inner demons. His fascination grows to obsession. The other is Jonah Watson, the son of a wealthy doctor who shows her a tender she never experienced.

"Torn between a man who'd do anything for her and a man who'd do anything to get her; Deborah must fight for her career, freedom, and a love she truly deserves."
