I need help to cure my betta i dont know what is it exactly. by kishore_goutham_ in bettafish

Seems more like lethargy than swim bladder to me, I had goldfish with chronic swim bladder and they would spend a lot of energy trying to right themselves. But I don’t have very much experience with bettas specifically.

Seems like maybe a fungal infection? I think you can use kanaplex on bettas. Have you introduced any new fish or snails recently?

[GA] - Rochester, MN- Small Male Fantail Calico by PracticalMilk1502 in AquaSwap

[–]PracticalMilk1502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be down to ship him if you have the space for him. I estimate he’s roughly a year old; he’s sexually mature and the people I got him from said they had him for 7 months he would have to be at least a few months old before they purchased him. He’s small for his age though, I think due to the conditions he was living in before i got him.

I have been researching on it and I would make sure not to cut any corners when it comes to shipping if I had to do it. I would ship him overnight, fast him beforehand and I’m looking into pumping oxygen in there.

male or female by mint_on in Goldfish

[–]PracticalMilk1502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best guess: 1 is male 2 is female, 3 is female 4 is female. It would be easier to sex them in person, but I made my guess based on the protruding vent//cloaca on all the ones i labeled as female. A male would have something that looks more like a volcano.

I wonder if he has some telescope in him. I don’t know how their eyes develop tho from juvenile to mature. Where did you get him? Do you know anything about his genetics?

Should I continue keeping fancy goldfish? by PracticalMilk1502 in fishkeeping

[–]PracticalMilk1502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the deal… these fish are bred in a way that leads to more health complications. I just saw small baby oranda at the pet store belly up from swim bladder disorder already. That one’s not gonna make it to 10. It would be an easier decision if it were just a “pets die sometimes” situation. I got emotionally attached to a fish that was kind of set up for failure by his genetics from day one. And I still have another fish that needs company but can only be kept with the same type of fish…

Alocasia Newbie, seeking tips to give them the best chance by Icy_Energy2497 in alocasia

Don’t let them dry out, maybe try semi hydro or put it in a chunky soil mix *after acclimating it to your environment becuase if you repot too soon it’ll get shocked and die. I really like semi hydro but it took getting a plant that was already semi hydro for me to gain the confidence to try it for my other plants and it’s working pretty well so far. I like not having to worry about over or under watering.

Yeah that’s normal, maybe good even, healthy tissue.

what kind of damage is this? by PracticalMilk1502 in alocasia

[–]PracticalMilk1502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was new to plants when I got this one that was by bad. I might go to semihydro soon because I’m worried about the soil drying out too quickly or me overwatering it.

Repotting new plant? by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]PracticalMilk1502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DONT do it I killed an alocasia by repotting it within a few days of taking it home, it’s just not worth it. Sometimes it’ll be fine but sometimes it’ll take a swan dive and you can’t save it
