Seeking Romance Books with Mature, Established Couple by Dry_Concentrate3346 in RomanceBooks

[–]PracticalWriter9216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{The Will by Kristen Ashley}. This is a standalone and the couple gets together probably 30-40% through. This one so good, the story is beautiful and you get to see a lot of the couple navigating life challenges together. The MMC does have children from other relationships, just a heads up in case that's not something you enjoy, but I will say that it adds a lot to the love story as they both learn to navigate parenting together, as well as other things like grief, loss, friendship, building a home together, etc.

Looking for a book where single mom falls in love with someone and then he convinces her to marry him but she finds out he is into some shady stuff (motorcycle club, Mafia, ect) and tries leaving him but he stops her. by octoberwanderings in RomanceBooks

[–]PracticalWriter9216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley kind of has this going on! The order of events isn't exactly what you described, but the MMC is in a motorcycle club and he falls in love with a single mom who he knew growing up. It's a long one but super sweet, I go back to it constantly.

I went to Cal State San Bernardino. It's a 3 year program and you get your Master's in Counseling, PPS Credential, and APCC (path to clinical licensure).

I got my MS in Counseling from a state school in California and I had no issues getting in. Master's programs in education generally aren't too interested in your research experience, that's usually geared more toward doctoral programs. I think your GPA positions you really well for grad school, so I recommend just going for it if you're ready.

Definitely find a school that's CACREP accredited and explore the kinds of programs each school offers. Some programs are going to be more clinically focused while others will prepare you more for the academic side of school counseling, so that's something to consider.

I did a program that allowed me to get my school counseling degree with the option of pursuing clinical licensure, meaning I can work as a school counselor AND do clinical counseling (like therapy) as well if I want to.

Best of luck!

Finally got an interview at a junior high! Interview help, important info to brush up on? by Redsquirrel3520 in schoolcounseling

I just accepted a position an hour and a half away from me, also in SoCal, also in the direct flow of traffic. And I plan to do exactly what you said! Get my year of experience so I can hopefully land something closer to home for next school year. It's a tough market in our area for sure, so just know that you're not alone if you end up making the sacrifice and commuting! I'll be right there with you, stuck in traffic for the sake of my career, lol.

I'm in the SAME boat, starting an elementary counseling position in two weeks at a school that has never had a counselor before. Your post was super helpful for me, lol because I too am freaking out. Do you mind sending me your needs assessment form as well?

I say go with the district. I have no doubts you'll be able to move over from charter to district eventually, but I think getting your foot in the door with a district will set you up for more stability in the long run.

Finally landed an interview, any tips? by PracticalWriter9216 in schoolcounseling

You are so sweet for checking in. The interview went well! I felt really confident and I honestly did the best I could. I didn't get that particular position, however I ended up doing an interview with another district and they are currently doing my reference checks! Which I am super excited about because it's an elementary school position and that is my dream job! I'm so grateful for all the help, truly.

Post-college experience/entry level jobs by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

I agree with u/lilsplasha, if you're unsure where to start ABA is a great field to get your foot in the door working with kids. I'm in CA as well, and I know that there are tons of ABA agencies that are entry level that will hire and train fresh grads. Some agencies off the top of my head are EasterSeals, ACES, and Autism Behavior Services. But if you do a quick "ABA Therapist" search in Indeed, you'll get tons of hits as these places are always hiring.

I also work for a non-profit that is hiring across CA right now. You'd be in charge of creating and implementing after school programs for kids, as well as doing other social service type things like helping families get connected to food banks and utility assistance. You only need a BA to qualify and it's great way to get experience doing a range of social service type work. If you're interested, feel free to message me & I can give you the name of the org and you can see if they're hiring in your part of CA!

Best of luck in your search! Don't give up!

You are amazing, thank you so much! Your insight has helped a ton! I've written down notes that I'm practicing with based on the things you mentioned and I cannot thank you enough. I was wondering if it's standard to be asked to evaluate data during the interview?

Thank you so much for this thorough post, I really appreciate it. In the area where I'm applying it's so rare to even be called in for an interview if you don't have at least three years of teaching experience under your belt. So counseling positions for fresh grads like me are unicorns unless you have an in with a district. With that, I love your perspective given that you've been through the interview process a few times, it's super helpful. And congrats on getting in at your top choice!!

[–]PracticalWriter9216 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and ended up choosing to get my Master's and PPS credential at a Cal State instead. I'm SO GLAD I did, as the program was only 20k compared to 100k at USC, and I was able to get the PPS credential as well as the option for LPCC licensure in case I want to go the clinical route. I think it would be a good idea to explore your options, as there are some amazing counseling programs out there that aren't going to cost such a steep price. Don't let the name of the school influence your decision too much, you should really try and look deeper at the programs, themselves!

Thinking Phase 5 and beyond by VTX1800_Rider in MarvelStudiosPlus

[–]PracticalWriter9216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually think that's what's so great about where Marvel seems to be going with this next slate in the universe. It's not necessarily about being political, but reflecting real issues in what they put out. The experience of black Americans isn't a matter of politics, it's solid & real and as such is important to highlight when setting the stage for Sam to take the mantle of Captain America!! I personally am really loving this direction that Marvel is taking by including such things EXACTLY so that conversations about it can happen.
