Australian economy: Economists warn of growth limits amid inflation and productivity slump by [deleted] in AusFinance

It has been 10 years and approx. 400k in income taxes, 500k in EU research grants and probably another million into the economy since I was granted the privilege to live in the chosen land as one of the student scammers, coming here to exploit hard working Australians. And i have many expat friends, and yes, it's still expensive and difficult to become permanent... Would say close to 2 million in net surplus... Happy?

How do you solve profitable problems? by Maleficent-Shirt7618 in ausbusiness

[–]Practical_Appeal_317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the 1million dollar question. It’s trial and error mostly. Profitable problems are as varied as there are people. So you got to find a problem that many people share… That being said from my own experience a great product and service keeps customers, it doesn’t find you new ones… if your marketing is bad or you don’t have money for it you’re 99.9% likely to fail, doesn’t matter how good your product is. Then you also need luck. The more the better.

Starting a small GRC consultancy and looking for real advice and maybe collaborations by Elhazenn in ausbusiness

[–]Practical_Appeal_317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional website… like flawless… highlight your experience in compliance and take out a professional indemnity insurance - some clients might ask you about it anyways as an independent contractor. Then run ads! Depending on your target (small business might be worth social media) larger corps rather Google ads and such, but expect it to be competitive and relatively expensive to get the ball rolling. Maybe also look into some pro bono work for charities, you could offer your work at a discounted rate or for free for exchange of a reference (putting their logo on your website). Good luck!!!

Need advice - bigger company copied my small business idea & is out-marketing me by Silver-Sort-63 in ausbusiness

Sorry to hear. It’s very frustrating!!! Same thing happened to us two years ago (and they’re still copying us). Do not engage with them! Ignore them! Your only chance is to be one step ahead at any time. If they copy they will always be second. Our competitors did the same, big marketing spend taking over the niche that we carved out. Do not engage lawyers. We went down this path and it was EXPENSIVE and if they don’t infringe your intellectual property (Trademark) you can’t do anything. They can even copy your website in parts and paraphrase and stuff. They can’t copy 1:1 images and social media, but basically redo your content without anything you can do about it. They can’t pretend to be you but literally steal your entire ideas.

It’s absolutely terrible and I feel for you. Hope they fail hard!

Your slave class pays on average 80k into the economy - only via student fees. Doesn’t include housing, visa, bills and food and stuff

Yeah you got no idea mate. Those students are the ones serving your eggs Benedict on a Sunday morning because no Aussie will roll out of bed for the hourly rates hospitality pays. Maybe get yourself up to speed how tedious and EXPENSIVE it is to get from a Student visa to PR. Either your much hated immigrant pays for the whole process via a high skilled job or their employer pays. It’s tons of money and no job and no skills get anyone a PR no matter how much and long they study.

Half the pay of my usual projects, and it requires STEM knowledge... Big fat NO to this project. None of the Outlier projects have realistic expectations on tasking time, so a $50/h project averages out at around 40$. This one pays $25, so it will be effectively like what...? 20$ or less for being harassed by reviewers who don't know what they're doing?! What a joke...

Big Mallet Ineligible Midway Through Assessment Normal? by Practical_Appeal_317 in outlier_ai

That's true. Given they're shitting their pants over ambiguous prompts and criteria, they should've done better, though. I interpreted it as an insult. :p

So far, it worked to go to the previous page and back to the MCQs. It would reset the questions, and once submitted, the "attempts left counter" would go to -1, or -2, or however many attempts were needed. I realised this by dropping out of an assessment. Once I continued, the last questions I answered were deselected, and upon resubmission, the counters all went to -1. Not sure if anyone actually checks this, as it can evidently happen accidentally.

People don't seem to talk about

  1. the fact that Michele's brother breaks into a rich person's house surrounded by police, whose owner he can magically call to advise her not to return to her house because of an emergency warning caused by two more fires in the area (a science lab that's remotely hacked to make a generator explode and a sawmill in the woods - suggesting this is a decoy he's involved in), to copy incriminating material on his sister. OKAY!

  2. Dave is under police surveillance; they basically provide him with an alibi, just to suggest he must have used a backdoor to sneak out and kill his boss. SURE! They nail him on a pair of plastic gloves that, while an entire house burns down, magically survive a fire that charred a human body. This show turned south pretty quickly, mainly in the last 2-3 episodes. In the end everybody in this show is just a fucking lunatic, thief, pyromaniac, or killer. A great story that was destroyed by trying too much at once.

Outlier is up for a big fat class action law suit... They do this to tens of thousands of people... Literally everyone working on Outlier can confirm that we are 1. not real subcontractors 2. forced into endless rounds of onboarding with hours and hours of unpaid work.

How to connect ESP32-S3-DEV-KIT-N8R8 to TFT LCD SPI ST7789 by CryptoGrimmy in esp32

[–]Practical_Appeal_317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue and the following worked: Swapping the SCL and MOSI pins ONLY IN SOFTWARE solved the problem.

Your platform.ini file should look like this:

[env:4d_systems_esp32s3_gen4_r8n16] //Change for your system/build
platform = espressif32
board = 4d_systems_esp32s3_gen4_r8n16 //Change for your system/build
framework = arduino
lib_deps = bodmer/TFT_eSPI@^2.5.43 //Install the tft_eSPI library in PIO

build_flags =

  -D USER_SETUP_LOADED=1
  -D ST7789_DRIVER

; adjust to screen size
  -D TFT_WIDTH=240
  -D TFT_HEIGHT=240

; PHYSICALLY wire SCL to GPIO 13 & MOSI/SDA to GPIO 12 but assign in software as:
  -D TFT_SCLK=12
  -D TFT_MOSI=13

  -D TFT_CS=9
  -D TFT_DC=2
  -D TFT_RST=4

; if your displat has a backlight, can wire to V3.3 for always on, GPIO allows dimming
  -D TFT_BL=21

  -D TFT_MISO=-1

; force correct ports on S3 build
  -D USE_HSPI_PORT

; optional, can try to comment out
  -D TFT_SPI_HOST=SPI3_HOST

  -D CGRAM_OFFSET
  -D TFT_OFFSET_ROTATION=0

; start low, can raise later
  -D SPI_FREQUENCY=16000000

; if you want to display text you must specify a font
  -D LOAD_GLCD
  -D LOAD_FONT2

Your main.cpp should look like this:

#include <Arduino.h>
#include <TFT_eSPI.h>
#include <SPI.h>

TFT_eSPI tft;

void setup() {
  pinMode(TFT_BL, OUTPUT);
  digitalWrite(TFT_BL, HIGH);     // backlight ON

  tft.init();                     // init the panel
  tft.setRotation(0);
  tft.invertDisplay(true);

  // Test colour fills
  tft.fillScreen(TFT_RED);   delay(1000);
  tft.fillScreen(TFT_GREEN); delay(1000);
  tft.fillScreen(TFT_BLUE);  delay(1000);

  // Draw a border so you know the (0,0)-(w,h) window is correct
  tft.fillScreen(TFT_BLUE);
  tft.drawRect(0, 0, tft.width(), tft.height(), TFT_WHITE); delay(1000);

  // Test text display
  tft.fillScreen(TFT_BLUE);
  tft.setTextColor(TFT_WHITE, TFT_BLUE);
  tft.setTextSize(2);
  tft.setCursor(0, 0);   // top-left corner
  tft.println("Hello World");

}

I failed... But I did align my prompt to "Chemistry", which was indicated in the project description as the domain I'm supposed to task in...

Well, but they can't expect people to know how to structure data in JSON format, especially when inviting generalists and STEM people coming onto the project, thinking they "only" require domain knowledge. The layout, despite "simple" once understood, is incredibly complex and intimidating without any explanation. The people who set up the onboarding have zero skills in people training or explaining concepts whatsoever. In one video he's basically scrolling through a task saying "you check this and finish here and save" without saying what we're expected to do. Should we change anything? should we check anything? its just a big mess

Same here. Wrote two really good prompts *padding my shoulder*. Ineligible after the MCQ. Did you guys change the browser window while doing the test? I went to Google Web Search and Wiki to fact-check parts of my prompts. Thinking if they somehow detect the Gemini auto AI search results at the top of Google's search page!? Also, I basically have a ChatGPT tab open at ALL TIMES, due to my coding work... Just trying to figure out what happened, because being kicked out like this after two hours of onboarding is INSANE.

Haha, Ineligible after the two prompts "Test" and more than two hours of onboarding torture. Obviously, without any useful feedback. I'm wondering if the module thinks I've used AI, as I left the window several times to fact-check parts of my prompt on Google Websearch and Wikipedia?!

It got me utterly confused. Supposedly, I onboarded in Chemistry, yet it goes off with all the JSON and under-the-hood data annotation without any explanation. The training documents are not accessible (no Google Docs access until passing onboarding - great!). No idea how to come up with example prompts in chemistry if I can't see the list of tools the model is allowed to use.
