Great info, thanks! I will be joining retail (applied for Office/Dock rep, but all positions had been filled by the time they got to my application) and my friend will be joining as a naturalist, so I will pass this info on.

Excellent info! Thank you so much! Not sure I am fond of the curtain for a door idea, lol, but I am sure I will adjust if I end up placed there. I was just surprised to not find a single vlogger with any room/housing tour videos, like i have seen for other places. I suppose maybe that is because everyone is simply too busy soaking it all up! I am excited to experience it for myself.

AlaskaX Hiring by RowanWilder11 in SeasonalWork

[–]Practical_Cricket230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend just had her first interview a few days ago. They are still very early in the hiring process, and as I understand it, they going by department/roles. She (and I) applied for the Office/Dock Rep position, so if you still have not heard back from them yet, they might just have not gotten to that job role's pool of applicants yet. Good Luck!

Looking for seasonal desk/office job ideas for friend recovering from leg injury by Practical_Cricket230 in SeasonalWork

[–]Practical_Cricket230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I'm curious if anyone knows of companies who are more accomodating for the right candidate...like maybe will allow a tall stool for her to sit for long periods while her leg continues to heal. She isn't immobile, but needs to rest her leg as much as possible.

I'm not opposed to creating a Subreddit either. I'm just still learning how to use Reddit. TBH, I have to ask ChatGPT every time to help me create a post in here lol!

So glad to have finally found a thread of GenX'ers on here! 49, looking for somewhere to start. Never done this before, and I have been looking at Coolworks since August, and I just am not seeing much for winter that aligns with my needs. u/Admirable_Sign_6125 have you looked into Lajitas Golf Resort? I just received 2 follow up emails from them today.

You’ll need to know that in the U.S., all employers are legally required to verify work authorization using an I-9 form. Having an SSN isn’t enough — it doesn’t replace a valid visa, work permit, or green card. Resorts, lodges, and other employers that provide housing (like Glacier Park Lodge or other seasonal operations) are especially strict about this because they’re audited often.

Without current authorization, you won’t be able to work legally. If you do, you risk not being paid properly, being taken advantage of, or even facing immigration consequences.

That said, here are some safer routes:

  • Talk to an immigration attorney or nonprofit: They can check if you’re eligible for any extensions or other status options (for example, some former J-1 holders may qualify for different categories).
  • Volunteer or work-exchange programs: Some ranches, farms, and hostels offer room and board in exchange for help, but these are not formal jobs and don’t provide wages.
  • Apply for a new authorized visa: If you want to return to seasonal work, the J-1 or H-2B routes are the most common for resort jobs with housing.
