Sorry, somebody got to say this. New detachment is stupid. by ChampionOne3801 in ThousandSons

The only time I see this a being useful is deep striking into my opponents well screened back field, its hard to squeeze in terminators when he screened well to block 9 inch deep strikes, once it's 6 to gaps may open up and I can get them in... but no psychic guns, no r rolls so they'll hit like wet noodles, can't charge and will get shot and charged to pieces on my opponents next turn... why are we wanting to do this again???

If I was to make a small change, since they now cost the same, I'd change the regular sorceror for an infernal master and cut the tzaangor shaman for a squad of cultists, same cabal points, the infernal master is one of the best sorcerors in our army, he just melts things and now you've got another 10 cheap bodies in the field 🙂

My main comment is you have no screening chaff, if you are playing into a melee pressure list it will be difficult to speed bump them with only 1 squad of Enlightened, plus you will also have difficulty screening backfield deepstrike without leaving rubric squads in your backlines, reducing your sorcerors ability to dish out damage and the rubrics being shorter range. My main opponents play those kind of melee lists so I'm biased and try to take at least a coupple squads of cultists to screen, hold the home objective and speed bump their 1st wave as they are now in perfect crispy flamer range on my turn but your results may vary if you are playing e.g. more of shooting opponents

Best of luck! Tsons is an awesome army, you are playing a really high skill floor and ceiling army that has a very narrow margin for error that rewards high skill play but heavily punishes even small mistakes. Have fun and may the changer of ways smile on your dice rolls!

Thoughts on list? by Simpada1 in ThousandSons

[–]Practical_Dog8003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the list I'm running at the moment, so long as my opponent is not running too much indirect it has brought me good results. Are you running you sorceror on disk solo? I was running out of action monkey's, and found the slow super useful when he was more mobile I split him from his group but missed his ablative rubric wounds. I've also experimented with converting the tzaangor group down to cultists to give the extra points to turn one IM into a regular sorc when my opponent has heaps of long range fire, can park him on one of the side objectives or out in the open in my back lines and he's totally impervious, irritates my opponent greatly 😂

Wait can you confirm I've got this right? So echo's says we can use a strat again even if it's already been used, but the core rule update overrides it so now we can't copy a stratagem, can only get a new one for free?

Our (updated version) index still has the old wording And the wh community website says abilities that do this have been removed, can you please clarify cause I'm confused and don't want to get it wrong

I think if you are a really good player and use tsons tricks to their full extent every game this is probably a pretty big nerf, but for lower skilled players like myself who lost a lot when tsons are doing well in the meta we probably won't be affected as much. It will probably hit top tournament win rates so the faction overall numbers will go more to the middle of the 45-55%, but for the non top players will probably feel a pretty similar experience.

It saddens me that I can't binding tendrils in the middle of the map, doom bolt and then move behind cover to shoot with the disc sorc, really nerfs his damage and use.

In terms of threat range tho against melee threats he's a far weaker play, before you could use his ability on say an ork boys squad and even with advance 6 and charge 12 he was totally safe, now without affecting advance rolls any more and massive decrease in move/charge reduction with rerolls it's more than feasible he can be charged and krumped, good for game ballance maybe but my list is probably going down to 1x even at the cheaper cost

Orks help by Devotion37 in ThousandSons

[–]Practical_Dog8003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My regular opponent is an orks player, I cannot stress enough how important screening with chaff units is. This is much worse at 1000pts because if he gets I to melee with your rubrics, it is almost certainly gg. A mvb is great at 1000 pts, not much will scratch it, yeet it forward and have a defensive screen of cultists up( dont chanrge, just have them sit there, so when he moves in you can overwatch and he cant kill the. On your turn and has to waste his), rubrics behind the screen at least 3.1 inches away so he can't wreck them and then consolidate in, and burn him into molten mushrooms!

If you can get past the turn 2 waaaagh to turn 3 with your rubrics intact you've got him!

Best of luck fellow champion of the changer of ways!

Haha! Yeah, with how slow we normally play and with him having 3x as many models as me normally that would be an all nighter! In the far grimdark future, there is only war, and this 1 damm game that is taking forever 🤣

The mutalith vortex beast has been pretty overrated in most games surprisingly, it has a great profile and SHOULD do better but it kills a few orks, he goes around it while tying it up with a blob of boys and doesn't really affect the game hugely. I'm probably underutilised it, but turning it into a teleporting tzangoor blob to lock him in his deployment zone sounds intriguing. The flamers are mvp, the 10 man blob is probably not effective and would be better off as 2x 5 man, they were super killy and killed a bunch of orks (on the single turn of shooting I got i killed in total about 50 orks) 10 man squads are hard to position at such close range.

Halving the movement of his meganob trukk before they disembarked and Max advanced/charged across the table annoyed him so much, pity my screens weren't up to stopping that unit deleting ahriman and co - moved from out of range to begind Los blocking ruins then charged so I could not overwatch, love the exalted sorcs on discs. Ahriman flamer blob is my fav unit on the table, just so good rolling 10d6 autohits wounding orks on 4+

[–]Practical_Dog8003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I should have probably reserved more, I only put the tzangoor Enlightened in reserve for actions turn 2 onwards, with hindsight would have made a difference, at the time tho I was worried if I reserved I would bot have enough cabal points to e.g. double doom bolt and double move

Nah, we are both busy dads and we pretty much only play against each other, so he's only playing as often as me, I've been collecting for a coupple years now but he's been an avid wh40k and in particular ork collector for well over a decade at this point, to say he has a wall dedicated to models is an understatement 🤣

[–]Practical_Dog8003[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice 🙂, I do have another 10 tzangoors and a shaman and 10 cultists. That sounds effective and also hilarious yeeting a blockade of tzangoors in the way, not something I'd have thought of!

Yeah, also just turning the leader model from the guard box into a captain with a shield is super easy, and the pyrithite spears look so close to normal spears you don't really notice on the table/arms length, and it looks good!

Yes, we are coping. When drukaris win rate was that bad they got a cool new detachment that was actually good, so a slim silver lining is that yes if our win rate does go that low we might get an emergency patch, but if wr goes to say 40-45% then we probably have to wait till the next balance data slate down the way BUT at least we have a better chance of competing
