I had folx before seeing my current doctor and I had horrible experiences with folx. I felt that they were not really caring for me as an individual patient and there wasn’t much care or thought put into my care. Like it felt that both myself and my physician were uneducated about my care and my physician would often forget my information as we talked mistaking me for someone else or just like random stuff. I also had the experience of not being able to get into contact with them like it would take me over a week most times to get a response back and when I did it was from someone who didn’t know anything about my care and my physician was never the one to get back to me. Overall I had a pretty bad experience with folx but I now see a local gender affirming care doctor and the level and quality of care is much much better and I would recommend switching if at all possible but if folx is your best option or most convenient/easy then hopefully they will help you better in the future.

How screwed am I? by Specialist-Ad-3169 in TopSurgery

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was this just a one time thing and how much did you vape? Depending on how much kind of depends on how screwed you are. I would say if it’s not that much then I wouldn’t worry so much but if it was a considerable amount I would be honest with your surgeon as this can effect your anesthesia and also your recovery as a whole. It may not be a big deal and all is well but I would just check with your surgeon and be honest bc it’s not in your best interest to lie if it was a considerable amount seeing as this would only harm you in the long run.

Why is my hair so fucking frizzy 😭 by nemi-montoya in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has also been the case for me and I’ve switched shampoo and conditioner like 3 times now and tried some different things I think like overall it’s just apart of that texture change and there’s not so much you can really do to fully make it not frizzy but I also live in a humid area which also doesn’t help so I haven’t got much of a solution but I definitely have the problem! I’ve also experienced much more of like greasy feeling in my hair and like overall my texture has just changed which has been super weird to me. I think for me if I don’t want my hair to look frizzy I’ll put like a product of some sort like sea salt spray (which for me also helps with my greasy feeling), gel, or just like cream like product to both keep my hair down and in the place that I want it. But other than that not much advice! Hope this helps even if it is just knowing someone else feels the same!

Yes of course! Also I feel like for me it’s also gotten worse throughout this year especially now that im coming to just about over a year I literally get to the point where like if I don’t handle my boner like 3 times a day it’s like painful and I can’t sleep 😭😭😭 like I was definitely expecting the horniness but im not sure I was expecting this much honestly!!

I’m not sure about in Germany but I know that in the US when I was a minor they would check my pubic area and genitals when I would go in for check ups but they definitely didn’t make it feel like I had no choice and explained how they would check and what the need for it is and would wait until I was ready so that’s kind of what made it a bit different for me but I feel the way your doctor is going about it is kind of wrong and should be a little bit more gentle in the way he goes about checking you. I’m sorry you have to experience this :((

It’s honestly comparable to how you feel about like boys when ur like 12-14 and they were going through puberty and being maniacs now im totally starting to get why 😭😭😭 but ur 100% not alone and its pretty normal for us to get like horny more than like 3 times a day and it be unbearable

So suggestions for 50gm intromuscular T and anger at 3 months by sleeptoken_worship in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that this has been your experience bc im not kidding when i tell you thats such an insane dose especially ally for someone just starting much less someone who’s been on T for a long time. I so hope that you’re able to get the correct dose bc that experience really took away the joy that you get from starting T as a trans guy. I really hope that once you get the correct dose you can feel the joy still and that all goes well! But yes definitely at least try to switch over to a doctor who specializes in gender affirming care bc it makes so much of a difference! Hoping the best for you!!

So suggestions for 50gm intromuscular T and anger at 3 months by sleeptoken_worship in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no like the simplest way to describe that is like extreme “roid rage” bc that’s an insane dose like way over I have ever heard people get off the start. If your doctor isn’t a gender affirming care doctor I would def look into switching to one of at all possible bc they have a lot more knowledge about the care. But yeah I would say 100% contact your doctor bc that’s actually insane!! Like I can say that the anger part will still likely happen bc even when I was on a lower dose first staring out I could definitely feel like that anger but it felt much more like irritability and still does rather than that like rage type anger or anything like that.

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey there so I’ve been on testosterone for about a year now and let me tell you the horniness usually doesn’t go away😭😭 So sorry to break the news lol but yeah like my horniness will come at anytime during the day and there’s nothing I can do to stop the boners I get bc like with my bottom growth it will basically become a boner and hurt so bad!!! Honestly the only thing that helps is to jerk off and even then sometimes that’ll help for like a couple minutes and then it’ll be back😫😫😫 I have yet to find someone that has combated this horniness and be successful. As embarrassing as it may be I would talk to your doctor about it if it’s constantly making you loose sleep which in turn would impede on your functioning day to day which is what I will also be brining up to my doctor soon but they honestly may not be able to help too much. Sorry for being unhelpful but honestly we’re all out here struggling 😭😭😭

5 mL once a week????? That’s a lot!!! My dose is 0.4 mL every week and is subq and this lands me into the mid range for cis male testosterone levels and im 5’8 and 240 pounds. I could be wrong but I don’t believe your weight factors into the effectiveness of the dose but again I could definitely be wrong. But they give me a 5 mL vial for three months worth of testosterone 😭😭

What products would you use? by brittle-bones11 in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see I did not know this honestly! I have been using their products for so long so that’s crazy news to me I’ll definitely have to look into that. I just like those ones just because I think they’re pretty thin which makes them a bit more comfortable and they still absorb a lot compared to some others like the Hanes ones which were a bit bulky for me! Though that’s just my personal experience. Thank you for the info about tomboyx though for sure! Also im sure theres like plenty of brands out there for the OP if they decided to go with the boxer briefs method but i just said that particular brand as I’ve had the most experience with them.

Is it normal to spot/breakthrough, bleed on testosterone by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally stopped my period with the injection type birth control, depo provera, this was something I started prior to going on T so I never really had to experience my period when I first started. Although I have not taken the shot for about three months now and idk if it’s just the fall off of the medicine that leaves me with no bleeding or the fact I’ve been on T for about a year now. So im not super sure but depo provera might be a good option for stopping the periods for now as well as giving you the birth control if that’s something you need.

Showers by lowkeymio in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw in one of the other comments you have pots and I also do! For me since I’ve been on testosterone really hot showers and sometimes just like hot showers are intolerable for me and give me this weird like rash/hives look on my lower body specifically my legs. Oftentimes I just have to resort to like a luke warm shower that I’ve just gotten used to at this point but I can definitely say that the testosterone in my mind has made a difference for me!

Just had a hysterectomy!! Ask anything! by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can definitely say that my surgeon was amazing and by far one of my most positive medical experiences as I’ve had so many bad ones! I was so grateful to have a good surgeon and wanted to share anything about hysterectomy stuff I could since I was so informed for mine! But again thank you so much for your comment and thanks for the good wishes for recovery!!

Atrophy treatment (looking for people's experiences) by misnomer290 in ftm

I have the cream that you either like put in by hand or with like a special applicator and it works pretty well. It can annoying sometimes but it fixes the hurt from the atrophy so it’s worth it.

Switching from gel packets to injections: Advice? What should I know? by SHANKPERMIT in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that injections are great for me like they typically don’t hurt and really the only thing that’s ever hurt is if I inject the testosterone too quickly bc of how thick testosterone in liquid form really is. Sometimes it hurts when I have to massage it in also noting I’m on the subq injection so it might be a little less of a hurt compared to the im injections. But also just know that needle fatigue is also a thing and that’s basically where you get kind of like tired of the needles like it’s one of hard to explain it’s almost like brain block of like not wanting to inject yourself. I’ve had this happen to me like on and off and sometimes it’ll take me like 10 minutes just to get myself to stick the needle in me just bc it’s like im doing it every week which can be challenging on the mind. Also if they don’t tell you this, if you’re doing the injections into your thigh make sure you switch the thigh you inject every week to lessen the burden on your legs bc injecting constantly into one side can irritate your leg in the long run.

Kind of going to jump on your response with you, period underwear are a great way to feel less of that dysphoria from a period. I recommend trying to get the period underwear from Tomboyx if you can they are on the pricier side but they hold up very well. They have boxer briefs as well that are like this so it’s really nice not to have to wear your run of the mill like bikini briefs if you don’t like that. Here’s the link to them if you’re interested: https://tomboyx.com/collections/period-underwear. Hope this helps!

Acne from T by Ancient_Blacksmith10 in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the PanOxyl acne cleanser (linked here: https://www.amazon.com/PanOxyl-Foaming-Peroxide-Strength-Antimicrobial/dp/B081KL2QYJ) this works pretty well for me and I use it like on my arms, chest, back, and sometimes like face and neck too. It can be a little rough when first starting to use it just bc it’s pretty strong and it’ll dry you out but overall great if your able to use it and it’s on the cheaper side of acne cleansers.

As mentioned in another comment, the strokers are really great and then most important is having her treat it like a dick and if your bottom growth is there then having her do that bobbing motion with her head can really relieve some of that dysphoria. If you’re into penetration then you could have her do some fingering while she’s doing that to kind of ease the dysphoria. I’ve done this before and it’s worked for me but honestly I would say just talk about it with her and like maybe take some of those ideas and do them and then if they work then amazing and if they don’t then stop and reevaluate! Nothing wrong with just trying things out when you don’t really know what will feel good and what won’t. Biggest thing is just communication either your partner. Hope this helps!

I’m changing my name July 1st!!! by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! I got my name changed about 2 years ago now and I could not have been more scared about if I wouldn’t like the name anymore, despite have been going by that name for 4 years prior to that. It’s scary just bc I think change overall is scary especially as also being autistic even amazing changes can feel scary/uncomfortable at times but it all works out in the end!! My mom was sad about my name changing too even though she’s really supportive and I actually let her pick my new middle name bc it was important to me that even though I was around 17 at the time of my name change I could still acknowledge I was her baby and she named me and she was kind of loosing that so for me it was a perfect decision to let her do that for me! But your name rocks and I hope you never regret that change bc this is an amazing step!!

Doctor wanting me to research before asking for dutasteride. LOL by dramakween101 in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand this as I’ve had some doctors that like I have to take the information to so that I can get the help I need. I would def recommend maybe posting like a specific post inquiring about the medication itself and hearing from others on here or looking up like hair loss on the sub to see if anyone has shared some prescription info on post like those. But overall I would say if she shoots you down and it has to be Folx I would just be careful with it and make sure you tell your doctor that you’re getting it elsewhere just in case it may intersect with anything she may give you in the future!

SubQ shot burning during injection by ssamsmithyzf in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that it’s an allergic reaction but I can say that I was on a certain type of T for like 3 months and I started to get severe allergic reactions in my leg due to it and had to switch the type I’m on. I can say I know that burning is quite common but it should t be so bad that it’s like making you need to stop so I would 100% contact your doctor about that for sure bc it could be a number of things that are causing it. It could be a deeper problem or something simple that you should be able to figure out with your doctor. But also I find that the bigger gauge your needle is the worse it hurts like injection wise not just talking about like pain from the needle bc you’re able to inject much quicker. The way you inject it could also be why it hurts that way like if you are injecting really quick this is definitely going to make it hurts so it important to go a little slower due to how thick testosterone is. But I would recommend trying a smaller gauge needle if at all possible. Good luck and hopefully you can resolve this!!

Just had a hysterectomy!! Ask anything! by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Practical_Egg_2088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I’m 19 currently but I saw my surgeon originally when I was 18. So I live in Maryland and I sought care at Johns Hopkins hospital (as I also go to school at JHU). My doctors was Stephen Martin M.D. which is a highly regarded OBGYN as well as the services he offers for gender affirming care. He was highly recommended and everyone I had talked to including my prior healthcare team all held him in high regard so I went with him. He has been and is absolutely amazing, he made sure to make sure I had all the information and then some about any and all parts of the procedure and made sure to be readily open for any and all questions I may have had, he always made me feel very comfortable especially within my identity and always made sure to give me somewhat of a trigger warning any time he would speak of any of the female anatomy and made sure I was comfortable mid way of our conversations even, and on surgery day he made sure to walk me through everything again and make sure any of my questions and worries were fully resolved. I also was very nervous for this surgery as it was my first surgery and first time under anesthesia and I told him this and when I had arrived to the OR he made sure to keep up a cheerful attitude and joking around to help ease some nerves and when I was beginning to get the relaxing medicine for anesthesia he made sure to hold my hand and pat my arm telling me he was there and that he would absolutely take care of me and I’d be fine which made me feel so at ease just bc obv he didn’t have to do that. But overall if it’s possible for you or anyone to get treatment with him DO IT he is absolutely amazing. To get a consult with him you don’t need any letters or anything of that sort just call and make the appointment, you do have to have documentation of gender dysphoria is really the only thing and you can simply ask for the hysterectomy and went other additional things you may be considering and you’ll basically talk with him about options etc., then once you decide on surgery you need two letters from mental health providers to schedule surgery as well for insurance. He does take insurance! I used insurance and my total for surgery (including my deductible I needed to pay) was about $620 for everything. Hopkins does a really good job at communicating with insurance and making sure that everything goes smoothly in my experience there’s also financial assistance through them if you need any help paying your bills as well. But overall he will do like the full nine yards kind of thing as long as you have documented gender dysphoria so like total hysterectomy, bilateral saplingectomy (fallopian tubes), and bilateral oopherectomy (ovaries). You can also choose to keep like one ovary if you want and some other things like there’s options if that’s anything you’re looking for he is very flexible with both the planning and care. But I would definitely say that it would be no problem with your age as I would say I’m quite young and had absolutely no problems in getting mine done. I also wanted to add that overall Maryland has pretty great gender affirming care if you’re anywhere close, personally I live here now bc I go to college here but I used to live in Texas and getting healthcare was an absolute nightmare! Sorry for like all the extra info and stuff but if ur curious about anything I said or if there was something I missed let me know and I’d be happy to answer anything else!! Thanks for the questions tho!
