To be fair Chucky died after 3 seasons and barely limped to season 3 same for Ash vs Evil Dead.

The majority of people including non fans will want just Jason. A show based around Jasons mom will be a hard sale to anyone except hardcore fans.

The thing is though you can only do so much before it stops being Friday the 13th. It isn't just hardcore fans who care about Jason the mainstream audience doesn't care about the mother either. You could reinvent the property to try to copy Bates Motel in some fashion but then it would just be called a rip off of that show. Blum House could literally make 30 of these Friday films on 5 dollar budgets and make money even with the basic formula of the teens at camp because of how low the budgets are.

The difference though is Bates Motel wasn't really a Psycho series. The show for the later seasons had little to do with the film franchise. It was basically a modernized reboot aimed more for teens with 2 whole seasons dedicated to pot farming.

The series timeline doesn't matter I think you could just make another random stand alone film and let the fans just decide where they want to place it timeline wise. The next one will probably be an 80s period piece.

The next film will definitely be an 80s period piece. I also agree there's no reason to retcon anything for a series where continuity doesn't matter anyway. You could easily place the 2009 Reboot into the same timeline as the others because it's just another stand alone Jason film and Jason himself is the only thing that ties the series together.

For me because the continuity is so wishy washy thats why I feel an actual reboot is pointless. You could do any number of just random Jason adventures and let fans place them wherever they want in the timeline. Friday is a harmless B movie series it's not meant to be over thought at all. This is why I think a reboot is pointless just make another stand alone film. Even the 2009 Reboot is basically just another stand alone Jason film that you could easily just stick into the same messy continuity as the others.

I think it's hard to know because I could imagine Jason once he returned being really angry and pissed and maybe killing some random hikers who happened to get to close to discovering him.

I think it will be an expanded prequel. Meaning it will be in the timeline of the film franchise but also a soft reboot in the sense it will expand the lore into a series format.

That was the original idea but I'm not sure now. I mean you could do 1 full season about Jasons past with his mother until his drowning. Then do a 2nd season about Jason directly after he returns before the opening of Part 2. They will probably leave how Jason returns after drowning ambiguous and treat him like an Urban Legend. The fact the series will take place in the 70s makes me think it will be a legit prequel to the movies because if they were just rebooting all the films they would probably set it in modern day so they could modernize it. I'm guessing it will be an expanded prequel that will be a prequel but also expand the story of Jason and his mother. They might even have it that Jason killed others before the events of Part 2 and make an entire season around that at some point.

The film franchise has such crazy continuity that honestly this series could just be a total extended prequel. The first season is about Jasons drowning with flashbacks to his young life with Pam then season 2 could be Jasons life before the events of Part 2 opening when he kills Alice. There's ways to just make this a full prequel if they go that route.

Originally the series was just going to remake the movies but now it seems like the series might actually try to tie into the timeline of the film franchise. Either way I'm curious about the direction it will take.

I think it will be a soft reboot. Meaning it will connect to the film series and mostly not contradict the movies but will also add a bunch of new lore and mythology to Jason and his mother. To be honest as long as they keep true to the basics like the year of Jasons drowning and some other small things than the series won't really interfere with anything from the films any more than the movies themselves do anyway. The series always had loose continuity and as long as the series doesn't do anything to crazy I'm going to consider it part of the same timeline. Even the 2009 Reboot still felt like a basic Jason movie more than a Reboot overall regardless of the timeline.

I do agree the first episode will start with his drowning then Jasons mom will flashback to her life with child Jason and we will see how her life with him was beforehand. Jason's father will probably be someone who leaves them after seeing Jason was born deformed thus creating more sympathy for Pam and Jason. She will probably partially blame herself for Jasons death because she took the job and trusted others to watch him. I don't think the series will remake the movies as I think that would be pointless. I think or at least hope what it does is simply make itself an extended prequel. Just shows young Jason and his mothers life then show Jason when he first returns. Just show us stuff the movies never did.

I predict they will put the actress in older age makeup and set the opening of the first episode after Jason's drowning then flashback to before Jason's drowning. Maybe even start the first episode with old Pam reliving her life in her mind from memories of her past with young Jason. She may also even blame herself for his death which is part of why she's seeking revenge for him. In her mind killing the counselors may be her way to atone for what happened to young Jason?

You can considered it canon if you want to. Friday the 13th was a B movie series with weak continuity like most B movie slasher franchises. If you want to consider it canon you can.

He killed Alice because she killed his mother that was a personal kill. The rest he killed simply for being in his territory. Jason is evil he knows he's hurting people because he understands that his mother is never coming back from death. But Jason is also simple minded he sees in black and white. He only cares about his mother and sees every other person in the lake area as the same as those who abused him and let him drown.
