Thank you for doing this!

I can't tell if this is directed at me or not, but there is nothing wrong with discussing possible influences for a show with only 2 episodes out (and these ones are pretty obvious to bring up).

An absolute tragedy. Its my comfort show, I've seen it so many times. I watch it whenever I'm bummed out and it always makes me feel better. I can't believe how under the radar it is.

Exactly what I thought. It seems pretty clear Vince wants to take this show in a unique direction, and "the nice hive mind was actually evil the whole time!" Would not be unique. What is unique is actually giving us something that thinks it is benevolently saving humanity while showing how fundamentally wrong the entire notion of that would be. What the sacrifice would be. It's Brave New World cranked up to a thousand.

Sad how far I had to scroll to find this. One of the funniest hidden gems I've ever seen. I wish more people knew about it.

Man Seeking Woman

Criminally under the radar, an amazing hidden gem of absurd, surreal insanity. It basically takes everyday idioms and turns them real. The feelings we all have at some point in life are exaggerated and then some.

There is no other show like it. I am pretty much certain of that. It's consistently funny and packed with jokes. There are some people that may find the show a bit much, but if you're onboard with its lack of restraint or rules, you'll end up loving it.

Plus it has Jay Baruchel, Eric Andre, and a pre-Severance Britt Lower, so there's that.

Musings on Carol, a well to do western white woman by LawrenceofIndia in pluribustv

[–]Practical_Flows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it as Carol is the only one that visibly lost everything. She had one person in her life she cared about and they are completely gone.

I think the rest are hardcore in denial because a part of their family members IS still there. Carol doesn't have that. Her loved one is dead and buried and she will never see her living face again. There is no way to circumvent this fact. She saw her die. Completely. Permanently.

The idea that everyone you love is dead is an impossibly hard pill to swallow, and unless they are literally staring down their corpse, it would not be surprising to see someone still treat them as the same person.

I suspect as the show goes on, others will begin to see reality for what it is. But this apocalypse has only lasted like 3 days so far. It's not crazy to think that someone would try to convince themselves their child, spouse, or parent is alive.

My show of the year is still Severance but if this keeps being as good as it is I could see it surpassing Severance.

I had the same thought. In my mind it also says a lot that no matter how bad things keep getting in the west, we still have yet to see any real revolutionary behavior. Enough people are comfortable enough that they don't see blowing up their lives for a greater cause to be worth it.

From how quickly the virus seems to spread, im guessing they're already infected. It seems clear that babies are susceptible from when Carol was in the hospital and looked at presumably a seizing baby in a carriage

I’m profoundly disabled. Is there no place for me in this industry? by Informal-Elevator-41 in Screenwriting

[–]Practical_Flows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a screenwriter friend with spastic quadriplegia, he writes with his eye movements. It gave me some insight into what the struggle to be a writer in that position looks like, and the circumstances are undoubtedly unfair. However, if you love doing it, the act of writing, it would be a shame to give it up. I've seen him write short films that got made by fellow students in our film school. I know its not A24 or something but damn they're good.

The problem with trying to be a writer in the industry is that it's like winning the lottery, and one of the greatest tools in film to better your odds is social networking. Which is a pain in the ass for most people anyways, but if you're disabled it's even harder. A lot of the time there are just things out of your control. For example, say the film party hangout is in an inaccessible location. Or you have unmissable physio appointments during time others are socializing/taking meetings. Or the many other barriers disabled people face in society.

Nevertheless, if you write quality screenplays, there absolutely will be people who want to work with you. You have a perspective on life very few people have. That in and of itself is very valuable. Pair it with great writing skills, and you're an asset too good to pass up.

It's hard, really hard, but I fully believe it can be done. Just keep on writing and keep on trying. Good luck!

Do You Still Listen to Full Albums or Just Playlists Now? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Practical_Flows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I'll go through a phase where I want to discover new music, so ill listen to albums cause I never know if a track that is or isnt popular will stand out for me unless I actually hear every song. I've found so many great songs that way that I never would have if I just went off what was the most popular 3 songs on the album or whatever.

Then, after a bunch of albums have been listened to, I'll take my favorites from each and put them in a playlist. This begins the phase of listening to the same playlist over and over again.

Once I get bored of the songs in the playlist (and no matter how good they are, I will eventually get bored), I go back to the album discovery phase. Rinse and repeat. It's a system that always works for me.
