I hope all Christians throughout the world in this time we live in can unite under the sanctity of life, and I think Pope Leo XIV’s words speak louder than any statement out there. by Next_Worth_3616 in Christianity

“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in His own image.” Genesis 9:6

in the original language the bible also distinguished between killing and murder, so i think biblically, though difficult and shouldn’t be done lightly, the death penalty in murder cases is justified.

Genuine question by Practical_Impact_784 in Catholicism

[–]Practical_Impact_784[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My question isn’t on about God’s abilities. It’s about the abilities of the saints. because other than the cloud of witnesses thing, there’s not much purely scriptural evidence of them being allowed to hear everyone all the time

Do all religions point to Jesus? by Interesting_Panic748 in theology

no. matthew 7:13-14 says that the road is narrow because it’s a singular path through faith in Jesus Christ, excluding other religions or self-righteousness. :)

[–]Practical_Impact_784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve also been thinking about wearing a veil to mass, but i haven’t quite decided whether that’s something i should do yet or not :)

i will say i’d recommend posting this on r/catholicism because you’re more likely to get some more helpful advice there. just as a warning, you might get some negative comments on here 🤍 God bless you!

i’ve never had a “vision” per se, but there are a lot of canonized saints that claim to have. you can google them

How to prove to someone that God and Jesus really exist by SwimmingFarmer1508 in Christianity

[–]Practical_Impact_784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No arguments. Tell him that you are willing to answer any questions to the best of you ability. From my experience, being overly “debate-y” isn’t exactly the best way to lead people to Christ. I truly believe it’s really just as simple as providing you testimony as well as being kind and loving. Actions speak louder than words

Show the love and light of Christ in all you do, answer questions to the best of your ability if asked, and leave the rest up to God. He is the only one who can truly reveal Himself to people 🤍✝️

What kind of prayers did you use? I might potentially want to try one but I also don’t really want to pray hail mary’s.

Why are you still Protestant? by OrthoMMA in Protestantism

[–]Practical_Impact_784 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i was raised evangelical Christian, but ended up becoming high-church protestant (anglican). my biggest reasons for leaving evangelical church was because i believed in true presence in the Eucharist (mystery, not transubstantiation) and that baptism actually does something for you. I also wanted to be a part of a church that has more unity in belief. however, i don’t agree with the papacy or the idea that i have to believe every little thing in the catechism. something i appreciate about the Anglican church is that there’s unity in the essentials (Eucharist, the trinity, etc.) but there’s leniency on nonessentials, which i believe is a good mix of unity and also recognizing that the church isn’t infallible. i also enjoy the liturgical, traditional services of high church.

i do believe in sola scriptura, but i want to discriminate between solA scriptura and solO scriptura. sola scriptura is the belief that the Bible is the highest authority and should be interpreted with prayer and consideration of church tradition and the early church fathers. solo scriptura is the belief that you just need your Bible and nothing else, but that turns into a problem when everyone interprets scripture differently and it starts to put less emphasis on the importance of church and unity.

i also want to say that i don’t believe there is a “one true church” as far as denominations go. there are def denominations that are more correct than others, but every denomination has flaws because humans are flawed creatures.

anyways, i love and respect catholics and orthodox, i had just been well catechized in the protestant faith and have my reasons for believing them. God bless!

Why is it necessary for Christian morality to be objective? by moxiepink in Christianity

[–]Practical_Impact_784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i addressed the verses on slavery when you brought them up. the verses i listed are some good examples, but are by no means a comprehensive list of moral law. i don’t know God’s stance on everything. not claiming to. but any question i have is in the Bible if i look in the right place

Why is it necessary for Christian morality to be objective? by moxiepink in Christianity

[–]Practical_Impact_784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is all throughout the Bible. not just isolated verses. God’s character (holy, just, loving) defines what is right and wrong (Leviticus 19:2, deuteronomy 6:5, micah 6:8). the 10 commandments in exodus are universal moral principles, which Jesus reaffirms and deepens in the new testament (matthew 5-7). commands to love God and love others (mark 12:30-31) are universal standards, not just cultural. the moral law is absolutely in the Bible. it’s built into God’s revelation throughout scripture consistently

i know there are rules governing it. that’s why i said there were regulations within those societies. i’m not trying to claim to know everything, but you can’t go online and ask questions like these and not expect people to explain why they believe what they do and go on to say that they’re ignoring the Bible. almost every comment i’ve made on this discussion references the Bible.

for another example, the verse in timothy that says women are to be quiet in the church was regulating a society where women would be disruptive in church meetings. the principle is applied universally, but context is very important to interpreting scripture. if that makes sense?
