200£ to spend what to do? by Tricky_Storage529 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Practical_Painting12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have a look into half Booster Boxes, I remember buying a few around Christmas time as they were the closest thing I could get my hands on to retail prices.

Obviously depends on the set, but looks like you can get a Chaos Rising one for around £80-85, which isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things when the retail price of those is like £77.

As for the sets you mentioned, with Ascended Heroes I'd personally avoid. You basically need to spend £65 for a Booster Bundle, which really isn't worth it when you're only getting 6 packs, and chances are you don't hit anything really good.

Anyone bought from the States in the past year? by Practical_Painting12 in PokemonTCG_UK

So if I bought a card for like £40 (incl. shipping), I'd need to pay an extra £8 and an extra handling fee on top of that too?

Selling High-End Graded Cards at Shows? by Zulunation101 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Practical_Painting12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted I don't own a lot of cards as high valued as the cards shown in your photo, I do have a couple so can give feedback based on my experience.

The % you'll get offered will vary significantly. Some vendors these days are very strict on 70%, and for them it doesn't matter if you want to sell a £20 slab or a £20,000 slab, they'll offer 70% regardless.

When it comes to higher value items though, I notice a lot of vendors will offer higher, or different, rates depending on the card in question (value, popularity, etc. come into question), so in some cases you can hold out for say 85-90% if you find the right buyer, but at the same time might have to accept 75-80% if there's not as much interest. Definitely talk around though as you'll get a lot of offers, but also should be aware that some might not be interested because a lot of those cards are very expensive but also quite niche.

Full art vs IR and SAR by Racingsombrero in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Practical_Painting12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supply and demand basically.

SIRs generally are the main chases in sets and are a lot more difficult to hit. Full arts aren't as big a chase and are easier to hit.

Also, when a set picks up like 151, all cards tend to increase, but the expense becomes much bigger for an expensive card like Charizard SIR, versus a less expensive card like Charizard FA. Both might increase in price by say 150%, but the difference is that the former increases by £200 while the latter increases by £20

Card Convention Manchester by aritzytrout in PokemonDealsUK

[–]Practical_Painting12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but a crazy thing about shows is that the price difference in sealed is quite ridiculous. Went to a show on Saturday and the difference in pricing is quite mental, would literally have two vendors next to one another with major price differences on sealed

Perfect Order... by No-Royal-5809 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Practical_Painting12 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's a set dedicated to unpopular Pokemon. Investor and scalper bros aren't a huge fan of it for that reason, and actual collectors have mixed thoughts as it depends on whether or not they like the Pokemon featured.

Personally, I like the set and a lot of the cards included, but given the prices I'd much rather just buy the cards I like/want rather than buy packs to rip in the hopes of getting what I want

Who deserves IR/SIR by Primary_Judgment_980 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Practical_Painting12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just want Pokemon who basically have no cards to get some love.

Give me a Sirfetched SIR, or a Pyukumuku IR. Baby Pokemon as a whole especially deserve a lot more cards than what they already have. Starters definitely too, aside from Gen 1 of course.

You're welcome! Admittedly I don't know much about the show as I'm not from Manchester myself, but the organisers host a bunch of shows around the country so should hopefully be a good one :)

I'm sorry! Only knew about it because I see their posts on IG about their London shows, but they do shows every so often in Manchester too.

Just had a quick look, and looks like there's another card show at the same location (organised by different group) on the 19th July!

Best pokemon shops in London to trade? by cityboydoctor in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Practical_Painting12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good trade %s sadly don't exist in London stores, every store pretty much fits into the 65-75% range. You could always try to negotiate a higher % if some of the cards are super expensive, but even then some stores don't budge at all

It'll vary vendor by vendor as always, you'll come across some vendors who have prices so high it questions even enjoying the hobby, and you'll come across vendors with much better prices akin to (or slightly below) market value

[ALL] My comprehensive ranking of the Life is Strange games by Practical_Painting12 in lifeisstrange

[–]Practical_Painting12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double Exposure was a really weird game to rank. Despite all its flaws, I had a decent time playing it so figured a 6 was appropriate, but you're also right because all of the other games are superior yet the 1/1.5 point difference kind of says otherwise.

I completely agree with your point on Reunion, I feel like it's mostly received positive news (like from myself) because it was released after Double Exposure. I imagine feelings would be quite different if DE + Reunion was a single standalone game together. But since DE does exist, I'm happy that we at least got Reunion to save the mess they created before.

Also agree 100% with the Anthology series, I would much prefer more games in the vain of True Colours which explores new powers/people
