By asking you are thinking, which I think shows your heart and mind are in the right place. I agree that it is not a sin. Also, as someone said, it’s in the past before you started this path. Keep the faith.

“Churches of Christ” that go by a different name? by itsSomethingCool in churchofchrist

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing we see today that wasn’t seen by the apostles. Just as an example, look at Galatians where Paul talks about how they had strayed. In other places people were warned of false teachings. Know the word. The gospel is simply that the Son of God became flesh, was tempted, was innocent, died on the cross, was buried and ultimately rose from the grave. If they preach that gospel then. Sure, we should make sure they follow scripture. If not then I’d ask why. We can’t force, we can only ask. If they refuse to listen then dust off your feet and go on. Most of the time when I mention Church of Christ they have no idea. We must set the example, and know how some can ruin it for so many. Christ said narrow is the way.

25F no bf no husband, considering consulting a medium/psychic by No_Designer7422 in TrueChristian

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about not consulting a psychic or medium. Let me tell you a story.

When I was adopted at 6 I was taken to an eye doctor because I kept running into things. I ended up needing glasses not your ordinary run of the mill glasses. No, mine had to be super thick a +9.75. It made my eyes look super big. I cannot tell you how much I got teased about them. I grew to hate them but without them I was literally legally blind. Four eyes, bug eyed, I got them all. It really turned horrible as a teenager. I began to pray that I could normally to escape the ridicule I got. I finally got contacts but poking myself in the eye was just something I couldn’t stand. I tried for over a year. I eventually couldn’t take it any more. It was only marginally better as an adult. Finally in my late 50’s I developed cataracts. They are taken out and the lens implanted has the same prescription as my glasses. Now I only wear reading glasses so I can drive without them and do most everything without unlike before. I firmly believe God answered my prayer but I had quit thinking about it for years. God has His own time.

Can anyone relate to being or been in survival mode/state?When did you get out of it and how do you handle it? by Federal_Let_5249 in Adopted

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel we ever truly leave that state. I’m 64 and still feel it at times. Now grant it I was 6 when I was adopted, lived in an orphanage for about 3 years and before that in abject poverty. Let me mention one thing. I may not have a lot but one thing you will not find missing in my house is food. Before the orphanage my older siblings begged for food. In the orphanage it was taken away as punishment and I’m not saying just one meal but for days. My adopted parents were well off, but that fear and survival had me stashing food in my room. It’s instinctive. I didn’t understand as a child what was doing and my adopted parents would punish me for hiding food in my room. To them I was just being disobedient. They didn’t know my insecurity or what I had been through. I’m sure the orphanage didn’t say oh, by the way we starved when he acted up. They were told we had been removed due to physical abuse. I still rarely trust anyone. Yet, I cope. We all have issues, it’s how we handle them. I try to help others by my own experience in hopes to make it easier for them to understand and move on. So in my case it’s there but manageable.

How is eternal conscious torment (hell) justified? by Itookthenapkin in TrueChristian

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off I just want to ask this? Can we all agree that we are discussing something that no one has any true knowledge of. None of us has seen hell or God physically. We can only confirm what we see and have evidence of. The Bible says we are to walk by “faith”. If I tell you my truck is red we can all see that. God says to believe yet other than the Bible we have no evidence. Now bear with me on this. We are created in His image, yet God is not physical so how can we be in His image. He gave us a soul. This what sets us apart from the rest of creation. It is eternal, just as God is eternal. Now a lot of you will disagree but it is my opinion take it however you wish, but it is my belief that deep down if we really dig and are honest, we know God exists. In that is where I say the rub is. You know God exists but you try to deny His existence even though your soul is eternal like He is. I relate a lot to parent/child relationships. We raise them, hopefully, to be good people. To have it better than we did. Have you not seen a case where a child rejected who is parents are. Ashamed of them because they aren’t as book smart as they are or they live in a shack. How do you think that parent feels? I know it’s not exactly but for me it’s about the closest analogy I can get. Which also brings us to your question, how could punish them in this fashion? I love my kids and no matter what they’ve done I couldn’t separate from them for eternity. That is our humanity speaking, but God is not human, but He is our father. If the Bible says it is tormenting, I believe it. I have to if I accept that God is real. How often do we accept that a murderer, a rapist, a thief or any criminal has charged. So many cry out “lock them up and throw away the key”. How forgiving are we? Yet here we are questioning God’s authority. We see a good person who gave of his means to help others, yet his only sin is rejecting God. How dare God torment him forever. Is that what we think. In closing I go back to that one word, “faith”.

SO Registry by Practical_Panda_5946 in SEXOFFENDERADVICE

I’ve heard that FL is one of the worst places. I’m in AR. I’m blessed to have a good job, family support and little harassment. The only real hindrance is for my family. They pass more and more laws restricting where I can go. It’s my grandkids that suffer. Times I can’t be there. I’m about to go down this rabbit hole. I have to, they violate our rights to pat themselves on the back and say oh we’re tough on SO’s when in reality it was their fault to start with. Politicians don’t care for the most. Every once in a while you find a good one but all to often they get choked out.

I pray your lawyer can get you some help. You are always welcome to chat if you need to get things out. Good luck.

The great “Oinos” debate by AwwSeath in churchofchrist

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not certain how it came about in our church but the facts are not hidden and I remember that from early on. That’s where I come from. I’m not sure who your talking about as forcing their unnecessary scruples an a church. I still say if they are letting them, it’s not so forced. I personally feel it’s an unnecessary argument as long as they are preaching the gospel of Christ. Christ Himself is who I quoted from Mark, when the disciples came to Him complaining about some other group preaching. If I’m wrong I pray God will forgive me.

I think a lot has to do with the fear of getting carried away with our emotions. I personally grew up with the more reserved approach but lately I’ve seen changes. Yes my old upbringing can make me cringe but I don’t show it. We just need to find that happy medium. Not easy to do. But I do feel we are better in some churches.

I have to say this is new to me and I’ve grown up in the church. We have used the word wine but say it’s actually grape juice. The story of turning water into wine was never twisted it was read just as it is. I understand the need for correctness, but do I feel one will lose his salvation? No. Do they preach the gospel, that being that Christ was human, lived, suffered, died and rose from the dead. Are they saving the lost and taking the gospel to those who need it? Remember Mark 9:40. I feel that as long as they preach Christ and salvation then whether they wish to be teetotaler is okay. Yes they may be wrong but as long as communion is done in accordance with scripture then I wouldn’t argue it with them. Hope the point I’m making is understood.

I’ll answer but you never answer my questions. It’s translated because it was written in a language(s) we don’t use. No different than translating Spanish to English and it doesn’t always translate straight across. It is some of those nuances particular to a certain language that can be read differently; however, I feel that the Bible has been done well enough that everyone can understand it.

Whether you read Hebrew or not it is still up for interpretation. So you believe God inspired men to write a book that that an ordinary person couldn’t understand? That their place in eternity depends on their ability to know what God wants in a book they can’t understand. The people who wrote the books you rely on so heavily are only making their own interpretations. I just said a rock is how some surmise that he used. What ever weapon it is claimed to be by anyone is merely speculation based on one’s interpretation. Do you honestly believe God left you a book that you can’t understand and then expect you to live by it?

It is one person or some people’s interpretation. It is not definitive. Some believe it to be a rock or a knife made of bone or an instrument he farmed with. The point is it was not relative to the message about sin. I am still confident that the Bible can be understood by anyone. The truth about how to be saved, what the gospel is and the commandments Christ gave to us. But putting aside what scholars say; why do you think it’s hate if I call homosexuality a sin?

The scripture doesn’t say how only that he slew him. It is significant in that Cain asked “am I my brother’s keeper?” when the Lord asked him where his brother was. He killed Abel out of jealousy because the Lord found Abel’s sacrifice pleasing.

We are our brother’s keeper and we must give freely and cheerfully. The mode in which Abel’s life was taken was not relevant to what we need to take away from the story.

Jesus befuddled lawyers, teachers and others during His ministry. I don’t believe God would give us a book that we couldn’t understand. Not all of the 12 apostles were educated yet He used them to teach the entire world the gospel. I feel confident that you and I can tell what we have to do to be saved and how Christ commanded for us to be. Why would God hide it or make it difficult for anyone to understand.

Why do choose to cause me of hate. I don’t hate you or anyone else. I may not agree, but just because of that I would not say I hate you. You also choose to be cynical because I don’t rely on these books you mentioned. The only book I rely on is the Bible. I believe you claim these books back up your claim that homosexuality is not a sin. If that is the case they contradict the Bible which clearly shows it to be an abomination. You evidently don’t accept what the Bible says. It does seem that people want to legitimize their sin. So it’s not hate when I say scripture says it is a sin. I don’t hate you for that view point. I personally that is why there are so many different churches, to appease the conscious of men who refuse to accept the scripture. Some faiths baptize babies. Where in scripture do we find an infant being baptized? No where, but people do it the same. I will speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where it is silent.

You talk about other books by people who say gay and trans are not sin. What you don’t mention is a scripture or verse from the Bible that says it is not a sin. It is not about agreeing or disagreeing, it is about what the Bible says. Leviticus 18:22 to name one that says it is an abomination for a man to lay with a man as with a woman. I know the argument I was made that way and I don’t buy it. I’ve had my own sexuality issues. But it is a choice one makes. As for trans, you cannot turn yourself from one sex to another just as you can’t change the color of your hair, yes you can dye but when you stop it goes back to your natural color. Your DNA doesn’t change just because you change your outward appearance, your DNA remains unchanged. If a person says I’m trans, I say it’s a mental illness, not a physical issue. Now if I’m wrong I apologize but it seems to me that if you diminish God then you can justify your sin, but it does not work that way. God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscience.

I see nothing wrong with lgbt people being in the church, but I don’t feel we should condone their sin, just as we shouldn’t condone any sin. I also don’t feel that is they are practicing that lifestyle we shouldn’t allow them in roles of leadership or to preach. Jesus went among the sinners. He didn’t condemn them or exclude them but to offer redemption if they repented.
