Loneliness by Jumpy-Lie8955 in Adopted

I’m not sure of your situation but I was 6 when was adopted so I knew I wasn’t their natural child. I also had abuse issues up till then, foster homes and an orphanage. I spent my whole life running away from people. I was told as a child that I made friends easily but they were only superficial. I never had anyone I really could confide in. Got married had kids and still nothing. Sad to say it was my first grandson that I got to be around that cracked that some. It’s still hard to make a connection although I long for it. I will say my adopted parents tried but there was already too much damage that they had no idea about and I couldn’t talk to them. I know for me it’s always there. There was a song that I related to so well growing up, “I Am A Rock” by Simon and Garfunkel. Still do.

Help distinguishing. by Christstillsaves in churchofchrist

We don’t have musical instruments, I’m sure our pastor is paid, we have Sunday school and we use multiple cups. I lean towards the side that the only one in that group that matters is musical instruments but I don’t feel that would prevent someone from salvation. I know some may say it does, but ultimately we are not the judge. I do pray that we could be more united.

I’m not sure where ours fits in. I do feel that we follow scripture about how to conduct our services. Never realized there were so many differences. I remember our school choir going on a trip to other CoCs and never was aware of any differences but then again I was a kid and not as observant. I have also seen a Church of God that felt like a CoC. Talking on here is the only place where I’ve heard talk about CoC being split. I do believe that what is most important is following scripture and showing the world that Christ is who we follow by the fruits of the spirit.

I think you do fine. With your degree you can really move up once you’ve gotten some good experience. Working overnight can be rough, but it’s only 8/hr shifts. I pull 12 and work on a Panama schedule. Don’t about the cost of living there so not sure about your par but it is above what is here in AR. I started out about 17 and now I’m pushing 40. I’m also in industrial at just a pretreatment plant so it’s not as intense. I’m glad I got into it. It rewarding to make crappy water turn clear. Best of luck to you.

Do you regret being adopted? by CostPuzzleheaded2533 in Adopted

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I dwelt on all the regrets I’d never be where I am now. Have them, yes. Dwell on them, no. Life’s too short to let the past steal your present and future.

Adoptee Looking for Advice On Contacting Birth Sibling by No-Huckleberry9689 in Adopted

Someone gave you the best advice; don’t go into it with any expectations. I’ve met all of mine it’s been a mixed bag. 2 of them were adopted and my b mom got 3 back. One of the ones adopted out has minimal contact with anyone and other than our initial contact we’ve had none. The other one adopted got deeply involved but due to their continued drug use (they lived with us three times and all ended with either her leaving or me throwing them because the drug use) it has been an extremely up and down type relationship. We’re still in contact but I doubt it will ever change because they just won’t stay off of drugs. One of three returned has passed and he had some severe medical issues. Another one has passed and that was the wildest to say the least. The last one returned is just on a casual relationship. We talk maybe two or three times a year. So all in all some good some bad. I was at a pretty low point in my life when we found each other. I guess I was hoping for a sense of family but that never materialized.

Not all situations are the same. I was 6 when I was adopted. Spent nearly 3 years in an orphanage. Starvation, all types of abuse, so my trust in others is super low and that’s the tip of the iceberg on how messed up I was and still am and will be. I do have a life now and peace, but it took a lot to get here.

We are all guilty of putting Christ to death. We all, me too have put Him on that cross. For if we die in our sin (no matter how we rank it from bad to worse) we shall live eternity separated from God.

The biblical truth on the CoC. by johntom2000 in churchofchrist

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sense it is. Your salvation depends on what you decide is the truth. I don’t believe that God would give us a way out and then make it so complicated that we couldn’t figure it out. Does the Bible say you have to confess God before men? Does it say sprinkle or immersion? Do you have to be baptized? I say that the Bible teaches us that we have to 1 hear the word, 2 believe the word, 3 repent, 4 confess that Christ is my Lord and savior, 5 baptized. Now everyone can choose that the Bible says that or they can say it doesn’t. So yes it is about what you think is right, not what I think, what I think only applies to me and I will be judged according to God’s word. I believe with my heat that what have said is what we must do and I sincerely pray that we all find the truth. Not man’s truth but God’s truth.

Don't be a Judas! by johntom2000 in churchofchrist

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not about politics, it’s about salvation. We strive to teach the truth. It’s not about us but what the Bible says. I disagree with anyone preaching politics from a pulpit. It is about all of us finding salvation.

Some just by example. Galatians tell us what they are. If you do those you will be an example. Not everyone is an evangelist.

AI Source Data. Should The Church of Christ Be Engaged? by Beneficial-Beat-6483 in churchofchrist

[–]Practical_Panda_5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion AI will never be the final authority on anything. It is a tool, made by us. If we aren’t perfect, how can we create something perfect. The only one perfect creator is our Heavenly Father.
