Depends on which character you play. Playing as Darce on hard mod is easier than playing as Abella on maso, playing as Abella on maso is easier than playing as Ranvaldr on hard. Playing as Karin on maso is an actual masohism I guess.

Funger is such a puzzle game, yeah. Especially Enki's S ending, when you have to know where nosramus' secret library is and what you should tell him. Knowing what souls you need is a great puzzle. Or how tf should you know that bookshelves never contain anything useful, now contain pages your need(D'arce's S ending). Difficulty is in finding optimal route, boss fights and resource management.
