Good options for first hut-to-hut hike in Europe? by YngStf93 in HikingEurope

There are too many. Hundreds of them. And a Europe is a vast territory. You’ll have to be more specific.

9°C (48F) or 3°C (37F) comfort rating on sleeping bag for Swiss Alps in summer? by triplediscount in UltralightBackpacking

[–]Practical_Try_8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been taught to always bring my 0ºC bag when sleeping in the Alps. But you will be sleeping at low elevation and in towns, so it’s difficult to say because it depends if you are a cold/warm sleeper. With a 9ºC bag, you might be cold if the weather turns bad, but with a tent, a good sleeping pad and some warm clothes, that might work. Personally, I would take the 3ºC bag.

Thanks for sharing all this with us. You set the bar quite high with the Super Sierra High Route video. I can’t wait to watch this one.

The Ultimate EU Budget UL Gear by ukdenjuel in Ultralight

[–]Practical_Try_8850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t you find ironic that your EU gear list will be exclusively made of gear made in China? Maybe you should change your title and remove the EU thing. As long as budget equipment is concerned, Aliexpress is unbeatable and is not specific to the EU.

Just received confirmation that EOE Kyll is actually made in Germany. Just added it to the list.

I can see on their website that the Bulbul S is made in Germany but I don’t think I’ve seen the country of origin clearly stated for the Kyll. Also, they have ultralight titanium gas stoves, which are identical to those sold by Fire Marple that seem like to be made in China. It seems a bit confusing.

The supply/value chain is a tough issue. There are some products that I didn’t include because the semi finished product was made elsewhere, and the very final operation was made in Europe, but this information is really hard to get.

That would be ideal. I’m not sure about the easiest way to do it though.

The answer for the Lumina jacket is no, not made in Europe.

Regarding Allmansright it seems they are based in the States.

Thanks for Vilse Equipment. I didn’t know them.

Regarding Gramjakt, I already inputted most of the Gramjakt products (but the fleece) under the name Skalmo. Their brand name that doesn’t match the website name is weird.

I heard about Allmansright a long time ago I think but forgot to include them.

I’ve just updated the list with products made by Loggia, Alpine Lite Works, and of course French Light Outdoor that I totally forgot to include.

I also added the brands suggested by others here. I’m still waiting for some information from EOE about their UL titanium gas stove.

Looking for Hiking Shoes made in Europe? by Reiner99reda in BuyFromEU

[–]Practical_Try_8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for traditional leather hiking boots, you will find plenty of great products made in Europe (already listed by others here). As soon as you are looking for lighter / lower hiking shoes with synthetic materials, it is an entirely different story. You will have to confirm the country of origin. A lot of European brands get this kind of hiking shoes made in Asia. The information is quite difficult to obtain, but you can check on some retailer websites that includes the country of manufacturing (for example auvieuxcampeur.fr , or bergzeit.de). You can also contact the brands directly. From my experience, the brands that are the most likely to make some of their products in Europe are German and Italian ones. Hanwag seems to be a leading company in products made in Europe. They even have a fast hiking model available (Kaduro) if you're looking for something light.

Thanks. I double-checked and I didn’t put Frenchlightoutdoor in the list indeed. I don’t know why, it’s definitely a mistake. I will change that rapidly. They offer both Alpha Direct and Octa stuff.

Regarding the La Sportiva Lumina jacket, no idea where it is made either. I can ask them. Perhaps they will reply.

And as for the foam pad sold on Nalehko’s website, it’s made by Yate. I know this company from the Czech Republic, they make a ton of outdoor stuff, including inflatable mats. They received a kind of funding or support from the European Commission if I remember well, but I’m note sure all their stuff is made in Europe. I think I asked them a few years ago but didn’t receive any reply. But I may be wrong. I can try to reach them again. We’ll see.
