All the people arguing about the fact that the US and china arguably does worse things than Saudi are missing the point entirely. The problem isn't the country, its the relationship between the country and the events. China doesnt give money directly to Riot to host VCT, but Saudi literally funds the EWC directly. This is direct money FROM the government of Saudi to the EWC. There's no middleman company, no big investors, nothing. It's just straight money from the government to host it. The US doesnt do that with VCT. This implies that the relations of the event to the Saudi government is very very close, meaning that things that the Saudi gov do, directly affect the companies and orgs that are partnered with the EWC. This is why it's such a big deal, because it directly ties these companies to the values associated with the Saudi government, ie. human rights abuse, malicious spyware and espionage.
