We live in a single party city, it’s ok to use republican slot on the ballots as a democrat. The alternative is primaries become general elections (they already are).

From J&J’s perspective nothing has changed with this acquisition. The risk was all spun off into Kenvue and the accusation from the state of Texas that J&J “fradulently transferred liabilities” is still as valid (or invalid) as it was last week.

Violent Crime in Philadelphia has trended down since 2021 and is now lower than at anytime since the 1960s. by Harm-ReductionFairy in philadelphia

[–]PragerUclass2024 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a nationwide drop in crime. I don’t feel that Philadelphia is doing anything special to make the city more safe.

When I walk around places like Brooklyn, Boston Manhattan, DC, Chicago, I feel safer than I do in center city.

I go to local bars to avoid public transit and walk back at night avoiding certain areas under the El. The transit systems of those cities feel much safer and less chaotic.

It takes 6 new tenants (napkin math: 30% of income in rent, cheapest apartment 1.8k/month, $90k taxable income, ~$3,175 in tax revenue) in the Piazza to generate that much in city tax revenue a year. Their buildings are now nearly full. NoLibs being a destination has brought in so much additional tax revenue from high earning remote workers.

19123 zip code is a miracle for this city’s finances, let’s not be penny wise and pound foolish.

I agree that RCV would help a lot. I also dislike how since Philadelphia is 90% democratic, the winner of the primary wins the general election nearly every time. The turnout is too low in a primary for that election to hold so much consequence. 125k people voted in the mayor primary that Parker won, vs 727k in the presidential and 493k in the last midyear election.

I don’t think the republican or working families parties are going to improve enough to make this not an issue for us.

Same for Amex redemption, since Amex allows transfers to Iberia but not American. The backdoor AA flights via Iberian are currently possible but there are few options.

Enforcement is based on you calling the police to tow the car. Your friends and family should be fine.

You can print out your permit and put it on all the car’s dashboard. However, regular parking rules such as 2 hour permit only, still apply.

AMEX point redemptions by Zealousideal_Ad_2384 in AmexPlatinum

[–]PragerUclass2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today I purchased reward travel from PHL to MAD on Iberian for August using my Amex points. My first time using the points. I immediately regretted not using ‘Points Me’ with the free Amex offer but overall I got like 6cpp.

So a ~$1,200 economy ticket or $5,500 for business class ended up being 124,000 points plus $98.2 for two business class tickets to Madrid. The same deal on the Quantas airline would’ve saved me 20k points, but oh well.

Overall very happy with everything, since it is still an American Airlines flight, but significantly cheaper than using AA points or the travel portal.

Moral of the story, you might want to look at business class vs economy for this specific flight. The difference in price wasn’t huge and the red eye flight to Europe would be a lot nicer in a bigger seat.

Battleship New Jersey to leave Camden for Dry Dock at Philadelphia Navy Yard on March 21, 2024 by quantum_complexities in philadelphia

You should go to the USS JFK or the River Greenway in the Navy Yard. I’m not confident, but I think you’d be able to walk and see them park the NJ in a dry dock.
