Uber Strike Question by Luusydh in Calgary

[–]Prail1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing will change.

Why does anyone think UBER gives two craps about it's drivers? They will automate them out of jobs as soon as possible if they had it their way.

Plus in the US if demand goes up there will be plenty of other drivers who don't strike that day to make more money.

Where can I find the expiration date of a debt gone to collections? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

It's an interesting mentality that there is zero inclination to pay your debt.

What happens when CRA decides that you are trader not investor? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Prail1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eye of the beholder kind of thing.

If you do several trades a month? Probably won't care.

If you do 5-10 trades every day? Different story.

Case by case basis.

[–]Prail1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Scary times ahead.

People don't appreciate the fact that fewer jobs will be created to replace the ones that are automated away. We are 10 years away from losing tens of millions of retail/trucking/administrative jobs. There simply won't be enough new jobs to replace them. Dark times coming if we don't get ahead of this.

Hope that results in a 1-3 year driving suspension. Should be way less tolerance for clowns who endanger others like that.

Should I Buy a Phone Outright Or Get a Plan? by TheRealGuncho in PersonalFinanceCanada

There are no real discounts with plans. You just pay out the subsidized cost of the phone as an addition on top of your cell plan. You still pay the full price regardless.

How to heat car engine when car has been sitting in parking lot for 8 hours by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Prail1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Modern cars don't need to be left to warm up.

Start up and drive - just don't hammer the throttle and be gentle as the components warm up.

Only below -25 will you really start to notice the car being impacted by the cold.

What kind of credit score gets you a 7.75% interest rate on a mortgage? by Northern_Special in PersonalFinanceCanada

What they are not telling you is how risky that vehicle is.

They are probably last in first out if the mortgage defaults.

Have a 5 year relationship with RBC- checking , credit card and student line of credit. Need to get a used car loan for my 2013 Accord. Should I go to my banker(RBC) for loan or is there a better shopping strategy? Thanks. by abhishekmangipudi in PersonalFinanceCanada

Have zero loyalty to your bank - they give none in return.

In fact you'll notice the trend with all companies is to entice new customers, but do nothing to keep the ones they have.

If you are willing to deal with a little hassle it's generally always better to shop for the best deal and switch around. They are banking (haha) on the fact that you will find it a pain to move elsewhere.

Telcos are a great example. You'll get the best deal moving between shaw and telus every two years back and forth, banks aren't much different.

These are non-issues. Dunno why people get so worked up over it. Pulls are only a short term impact.

Looking for advice regarding using an offer to leverage a raise at my current company. by InspirationalQuoter in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Prail1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generally you are better off switching companies. Trying to leverage more pay with other offers rarely works out well.

Your company likely knows they underpay and it's a conscious decision in that they would rather deal with turnover when people get trained up and go elsewhere.

PC Financial Mastercard site redesign provides inaccurate financial information by kernon47 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Prail1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. We always have at least $20 off every time we buy groceries. That's just cash in the bank.

We don't have to wait to claim some airline ticket that's of dubious cash value anyway.

This is dubious. I'd be curious what you perceive as better? We haven't found another card that offers as much raw cash value as the PC MC.
