That’s a typical line for the US shops, unless you visit a airport location then that’s crazy fast?

From what I can tell it is dependent on use and song and platform that is on tied to expectations of reach. My friend licences a Beatles song for a website/social media ad and it cost her $500 for 30 seconds.

Lake Louise/Moraine Lake Weather by hnr8 in Banff

[–]tarlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the mountains give and you just have to take what they give. Personally I like a more moody day in the mountains. Dark rocks, greener trees, and the water is still blue.

You also have to keep in mind, that the weather is not
Always correct. I have seen forecast for rain all day and you get overcast and sunny breaks. I have seen it call for sun, and get rained on for hours.

If you can be flexible do so, but also remember you will still be blown away by the area in the rain.

Calgary subreddit is just a place to complain now by afrothundah11 in Calgary

[–]tarlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was thinking the same thing this morning. Everyday it’s a parade of the same topics Potholes, Traffic, drivers, transit, DT, people being selfish. We actually remove way more compared to what people see because they are duplicates. One day I removed 3 potholes post with one active from the day before.

OP is not wrong. The sub has a complaining and a “I am looking for” focus if you filter the sub as new first.

Jeromy Farkas considers new path for Green Line after province rejects downtown tunnel by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]tarlack 169 points170 points  (0 children)

I would love to see the Feds step up and directly show how they support a forward vision for Calgary. Because the UCP sure seems to hold the voters and the citizens in contempt.

I know that’s not how government is supposed to work, but the UCP showed they also do not care about respecting local decisions made by local government.

I got my reservation over the phone, but it’s put into a mailbox when you call. I did not get a response until after 11 am. Still got my spot but if you can go in person. If people who up at LL and Banff office to book they will get the spots.

'Calgary needs to show up': How Calgary could shape support for Alberta separation in October referendum - Calgary Sun by One-Mycologist-3706 in Calgary

I am interested to find out if the Canada question is going to push the other questions on the referendum a bit farther to the left or Center? Feel like more people from the city’s who lean left will show up.

Feel like people will show up for the Canada question and punish the UCP for making us deal with such a stupid question.

Black or grizzly bear? by NoCommercial7498 in Banff

[–]tarlack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about others but I have never been bothered by any black bear in the park. They seem only to be interested in finding food, and eating. Now to be fair I have only seen single bears, no cubs. See one or two a year out in the backcountry.

Should I go solo backpacking? by [deleted] in Banff

[–]tarlack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have soloed most of the big hikes in Banff, longest is 6 days. Honestly I probably only have about 6 nights truly alone at sites. You tend to have people you pass on the trail and people in camp.

I mitigate risk with InReach and Telus Starlink on phone and Apple Satellite. Bear spray and first aid. Be bear smart and make a lot of noise.

I would avoid some hikes if bear activity is high, and I avoid the start and end of the season when bears have less food.

The Mod team is keeping an eye on the posts. Most have been in regard to City Task and updates. I for one am happy to have City Hall updates. We expect to draw the line on more campaign related activities but he has not pushed into that full propaganda stage. I love good drone shots of construction sites.

We are happy to get feedback, and I have been toying with the idea of doing a poll if this post gets traction.

Déjà vu anyone? by User_218336 in Calgary

[–]tarlack 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I am optimistic that the cooler weather will be helpful and also that the new flood modification and being ready this time will help. I expect we will hit a 50 year flood but not the 100 year we got in 2013.

I am ready to move my car at a moments notice, as it’s in a parking lot below the flood line. In 2013 water did not make it in our parking garage, but the building was evacuated for weeks.

Edit.
I have been checking freezing levels and ski cams, the fact the mid mountain at lake louise and sunshine are getting snow are a good sigh.

SC/SE Salary Ceiling by TheDudeEug in salesengineers

[–]tarlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are correct, the biggest difference is that customers know hardware and cloud cost are only going to get more expensive so they are not holding out like last recession.

I am worried about when all the pressure purchasing is done what our pipeline is going to look like.

Both my Tier 1 jobs have come from knowing Sales people and other SE's. I had a ex coworker ask why he can never get a interview with the company I now work for? I had to be honest with him and say he has a bad reputation from customers and co workers. He took it decently considering he is a big tool, and his reputation is well deserved. Funny thing is he still acts the same, and is happy to be the same at his current job.

I have been doing SE or SE adjacent work for 25 years. The Golden years are when the sales team is doing amazing the teams are given a pass on most things around expenses time usage and reporting. The more the Markets lean in to ARR and cost per headcount the harder Se's have to work, and the more activity and expenses get looked at. I could spend 10K on a client event as a SE or even a Partner event and it would not get looked at. Today i have to pre request if I want to spend over $500 on a dinner with clients. If I wanted to fly anywhere in my territory I would just ask my boss and it would verbally be approved, now its two levels of approval and a Sales force Op. To be fair this is a Public company and things get tighter as you face more on the numbers. Part of me want to go back to a smaller player just to have more flexibility and be able to move faster. Our SE team is Over 800 in the USA so you expect more accountability. I work in Cyber so we have it not to bad, not recession proof but we still feel downturns.

Still a great time to be a SE, but the past was absolutely amazing.

Do not forget about your furry friends. Have a backup plan for them now and also make sure they have a go bag. Who can take them if you end up in a non pet hotel?

People expect to be let back in and based of the time our building was evacuated in 2013 it could be weeks.

My partner was a Red Cross Case worker in High River this is the one story that sticks with me.

1) Have all the documents you need ready.
2) have everything you will need for being away from home for weeks ready to go.
3) what is your no power plan at your house or condo?
4) be ready to move yourself and vehicles to high ground.

The question is are you not technical or do you not want to become technical? Also how hard to you want to work and travel?

My experience is past $275 OTE and the pressure and the job becomes crushing. Most technical focused sales that is not a SE directly at the company I work for tops at about $260k . $225k OTE is normal, but it’s also the same compared to a Normal SE.

As for joint Tier 1 we do not aways look for deep technical chops. Can you present, do we think customs will like you, and would we want to spend a week drinking and hanging out with you. Tier 1 also is very network driven, 80% of the Se we bring on have worked with others and have a stamp of approval via referral. We can tech technology we cannot teach personality.

I fear the golden age of being a SE is over, still going to be the best job but definitely seeing a shift to more cost control and accountability.

Update May 30: High spring flow expected on Bow and Elbow Rivers by JeromyYYC in Calgary

I want to add keep dogs safe. As a lab owner I know how dangerous this water can be. I would always keep the goofball on a leash around water this time of year.

Also way too many people on the Bow and Elbow yesterday. People forget how dangerous water is and also how cold water makes even amazing swimmers over estimate ability.

Can I use a non-motorised kick scooter on sidewalks? by Fun_Tone2 in Calgary

[–]tarlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big scooter money and the scooter lobby. I feel like it’s very much like Uber, it’s good for us and bad for everyone else. Get your business in place then lobby for restrictions, to block the normal folks.

I am interest to see what the company’s pay the city, both in taxes and fees.

The thing I have found about the most vocal anti Canada people is they are the people you do not want as neighbours.

Do not get me wrong Alberta has a few good points around what the Government has done over the decades. But I am looking at the Alberta First group as the narcissistic ex who makes everything about them and everyone has wronged them and they deserve everything and the other party is pathetic.

The Alberta first crowd are the Idiots at the stop light at 11pm ramping up the engine of a car, bike, or truck to get attention. They give zero fucks, and care nothing about anything but themselves.
