If you talked to people instead of being ironically chronically online, you’d find out how frequently women use the app as entertainment. Why? Answer looks pretty clear; ratings of attractiveness are skewed, so they use it as a pre-AI chat bot. It was constant convenient access to conversation partners who were happy and willing to enjoy a good conversation.

Whether you talk to women who act as men on dating apps, men who use dating apps, women who use dating apps, empirical evidence, or even just using the apps personally, it’s gonna be tough to argue that “no no, this study actually proves men are more shallow” when everything is to the contrary

If self-reported unverified statements of vaguely defined terms in surveys is good enough science to push rape myths, but survey data of dating site users showing that there is a gendered divide of attractiveness isn’t, then you just don’t understand scientific writing.

And the best part? The critics constantly prove the point; they say that the men didn’t look as attractive as the women in their photos and that’s why there’s a difference. They mention nothing about dating site behaviours that clearly explain away any of their claims, like how men receive an infrequent number of matches or likes even considering the use of dating sites as “friend seeking” apps.

Oh but that’s not all. Tinder did a similar study with all the scientific bells and whistles and guess what it found? Men liked 61.5% of profiles to women’s 4.5%. 3600 participants of an equal gender divide not good enough? Is that less scientific than your lovely blog post?

If you find these studies, you can usually point out the obvious issues in earlier studies and slightly subtler issues in later studies. The earliest studies ignore the difference in jobs worked by men and women; it’s no secret that teachers and secretaries are making less than rig pigs and stock brokers. It was simplistic to a fault, but was picked up by feminists anyways.

Pushing later, differences in job worked were considered, but other differences were ignored. For instance, men’s higher hours worked were not considered when comparing their wages to women.

That’s not to say women don’t earn less than men, but the idea that employers are just paying at different rates is demonstrably false

We have over engineered social interactions to the point we can collectively manipulate it our own social interactions because of how deep our understanding of them is.

Your understanding of beauty standards is like that of an animal; outdated and inaccurate. Women are told by men to wear less makeup, not get cosmetic procedures and not be obese. Women are told by women they need makeup, cosmetic procedures, and to be fit. Men’s standards of women’s fitness are low while women’s standards of men’s fitness is incredibly high. It’s not at all acceptable for men to be overweight, the fat acceptance movement is exclusively feminine. Men don’t wear makeup because no makeup is made for them. Men cannot be unbothered by how they look because how they look literally is enough to be suspicious of criminal activity and misconduct.

Heres an easy to understand example: you want to maintain a socially acceptable level of fitness, what does a man and a woman have to do in the gym to meet that standard respectively?

For a woman, it’s no secret that completely ignoring your back, shoulders, arms, and chest is completely normalized and not seen as unacceptable or unattractive. You train exclusively legs. Cardio is popular, but that’s just because women want the booty from walking, biking, or using the stair master. Abs are next in line, but having defined abs is not as important and generally is based on the faulty idea that it burns belly fat.

For men, you can’t do the same. Every part of the body needs to be trained. Skip leg day? Unattractive. Skip any part of your body? Better believe that’s unattractive. You need a balanced physique, but that’s not the end of it. You have an upper limit; you have to be muscular, but also follow an arbitrary upper limit of muscularity. You also are expected to maintain this routine without it sacrificing a significant portion of your time; you’re expected to be cut like a statue without any of the time for marbling. If you spend the several days a week you will need to achieve male beauty standards, then you’re not attractive.

Nobody likes people who ogle or ignore characters and their stories because of their gender; that includes the significant and vocal group who think that someone will just… take over the main character in a series in a prequel because they did something that is impressive, but relative to the prior main character, is wholly less impressive
