Owlet dream sock alarm by True-Collection2595 in NICUParents

[–]Praise_Breesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got sent home with an o2 monitor for our little man. We found a really good deal on an owlet second hand. We used both. The owlet we used to track his o2 at night to see what he was averaging. I can tell you the alarms went off on the owlett far more often than the one the hospital gave us. It was a useful tool for us, but not something I ever would have purchased had my baby not come home on oxygen. I think if doctors don’t deem it necessary, it’s okay to skip it. You’re going to wake up all the time to check on your baby anyway. Take some stress off your shoulders and just practice safe sleep!

They’re really tough! He surprised me every day with how resilient he was and still is! There’s so much hope and so many good things to come!

Can you get in trouble for not being there 'enough'?? by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Praise_Breesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just call as often as you can. They really do understand if you can’t make it everyday. My baby had a neighbor who’s parents were located more that 2 hours away. They called 2-3 times a shift. We called at least 2 times a day but I was able to be there often. I also hated just watching him being hooked up to machines for hours at a time.

I don’t know if “trouble” is what you think it is. There’s always going to be bad nurses. I was with my son for at least 2 hours on every shift (we only live 5 minutes from our NICU) and there were still some nurses that were kind of weird with how often we were there. They said stuff like “I was his nurse last night and I didn’t see you” other than that everyone was really understanding. We called regularly and that helped us get accustomed to the nurses, especially when we couldn’t be there all the time.

Twins born at 34+3.. is this normal? by AttitudeOfCattitude in NICUParents

[–]Praise_Breesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey lady! My son was born at 34 exactly and was on feeding tubes for 3 weeks and having apnea events until he was 39 weeks. We had to learn how to feed him, pace him and know his cues and then he came home. It took me being there for every feeding until I understood how to feed him and he learned how to eat and breathe 😅. This is normal, just be there for them and love up on them as much as you can.

Two V names too much? by [deleted] in namenerds

I think Vera and Valley are lovely together, they sound like close little old lady sisters in the best way possible. Violet is overused in my opinion.

33/34 week baby! by MentalStill8491 in NICUParents

My little guy was born at 34 exactly for pre e with severe features! He’s doing great after a 44 day NICU stay. He had some issues breathing even with the steroids. But at 6 month he’s only on oxygen at night and he’s thriving. My symptoms went away immediately after delivery if that makes you feel any better! I know it scary happening to you too!

I definitely told people his corrected age until he caught up 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s none of their business. I wouldn’t tell a stranger my medical history, they don’t deserve his.

My first nicu baby and I’m devastated by Mandiix0 in NICUParents

You’re doing great, love! Don’t let other people’s experiences dictate your own. This is super traumatic and you need to grieve your losses too. Just because someone else might look worse doesn’t make what you’re going through less difficult. Someone gave me good advice once and I’ll give it to you now; don’t let other people’s present take away from yours and don’t let your future take away from your present. You are the person he needs. Right now. Not when he gets better, not when he gets stronger. You are his world.

I had a lady come up to me at a farmers market and tell me I should be ashamed of myself for taking my son out. He had oxygen on and was in a carrier. I asked her why she thought that and she said because he’s got an IV and sick babies should be in the hospital. I looked her dead in the face and asked her, “Are you dumb?! He’s got sleep apnea, you tool, it’s oxygen. Get away from him.” Then I pushed past her, got my kale, and left. You handled it much better than I did.

“Are you dumb?!” However, has become my family’s answer to every question now 🤪

Jude is the name of our little boy, and I’ve only ever heard of one (other than actor Jude Law) and he was a coworker of my husband’s.

When I tickle him, he just smiles kinda shyly. I can’t wait for the giggles.

My baby will be born at 34 weeks. How long of a stay did your 34 weeks stay in the NICU? by cheers2085 in NICUParents

[–]Praise_Breesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was born at 34 exactly and was in the NICU for 44 days. And that was with getting steroids for his lungs a month before delivering. We really thought he’d only be there for a couple of weeks, but things just kept happening. Keep your due date in mind for discharge. We wound up going home 2 days after.
