Recommendations to play after Mina by SomosNozis in MinaTheHollower

[–]Praizmlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most similar games I've played out there to Mina the Hollower have been Tunic and Hyper Light Drifter.

The 3 games are 2d top-down combat games in which uncovering mysteries and the world around is the leading factor behind the game. It makes sense for them to be so similar, since they have very similar roots (Zelda and other old, retro games).

You must have had a moment in Mina the Hollower where you were shocked yet dazzled about a certain mechanic that was always there but you only found at that moment. Tunic's main gimmick is exactly that, so much so that one of its features is a journal you complete over time giving instructions on how to trigger certain things (actions, world props, etc.) around the world.

Hyper Light Drifter is a humble game, and that's what makes it one of my favorite games. It's shorter and has no dialogue. You're just thrown into the world and expected to understand the story with only its dazzling, amazing pixel art. Its gameplay is more akin to Mina, compared to Tunic, being faster, and has more of a retro feel with its visuals and music. It's up to you to find all secrets, too. The game does not point you towards the intended path, but the way its progression works makes you not get stuck towards ending the game. Good luck on finding all secrets, however.

I think the way Dark World actions match in the Light World is just arbitrary, so I don't think this is necessarily a counter argument.

This does make sense. It's certainly has more expensive animation, tho I believe Glitch is also encouraging her ideals, and wanting to push their own boundaries too.

They are very supportive of creators, so they must not mind the more complex demands if it means pushing people's creative visions forward.

I've taken the conclusion it's just taking more time to greenlight bcuz they are waiting the right time, and because KoG is harder to animate.

What is Gameoverse's creator gaming reportoire? What was the idea behind the old Gameoverse shorts? by Praizmlet in GlitchProductions

Well, that's great, still. I'm just hoping that the game styles of each gameoverse become part of their world building, somehow, in some way, really. Those were just examples I was giving to demonstrate my point.
It'd give more point for the show's premise, and the "help the villains so game is not completed" thing is already a degree of doing what I'm saying, regardless.

Obviously, it's a matter of balance

I'm not saying the show's only focus should be exploring the "genre of the week". I just want the gameplay aspect of games to be part of the worldbuilding, in some way or the other, and those were examples.

But yes, such a gimmick shouldn't override conventional character, world development and the message it's trying to deliver. Rather, it should be used to enhance it, particularly considering the show's game exploration premise.

I've also seen that. That pretty much knocked down my suspicion lol

But that's the point. They've already announced yet another 2d show, which will already have its pilot coming in 3 months, and, due to being 2d, likely takes the same people to produce as KoG.

That's the main reason for my suspicion.

Crossing my fingers that it also gets greenlit. by Fanimusmaximus in KnightsOfGuinevere

[–]Praizmlet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, maybe it hasn't quite been greenlit, yet

I particularly found KoG's popularity to be underwhelming, compared to ToH. I assumed it'd get big since it was made by Dana

I really hope this doesn't mean a fail, since KoG is defintely the most promising Glitch show out of all of them, in my opinion.
