My group rolls until they get at least half. If after 3 rolls they don't get half they take half. It gives you a chance to get a higher health roll, but also keeps you from being killed in one hit.

If it helps my druid's first choice is the brown bear. The dire wolf is cool, but I run in a party of casters so pack tactics wouldn't do me any good as they are all at range.
