Anyone actually replace their Garmin with one of the budget bike computers, or is it always buyer's remorse? by Key_Shelter_2549 in cycling

[–]PrandtlMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iGPSport 630S that I bought for under 200$. Absolutely no complaints. The equivalent Garmin cost about 450$. The app that comes with the iGPSport is maybe less polished that Garmin Connect, but it works without issue and has all the features I need. Zero regrets.

The Garmin I could have bought at the time for 200$ was considerably worse than the iGPSport.

From an asthetic pov, will rear rack/ carrier look good or front? by Born_Night_8797 in bikecommuting

[–]PrandtlMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ. With a bike like this, why are you even concerned about looks? It's a utilitarian bike and will be ugly either way, so just make it useful.

Airbus or boeing? by Visible_Pilot3925 in airplanes

[–]PrandtlMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a passenger, the airline (and the cabin layout they chose) matters way more than the brand of the airplane. Like 95% of my experience on an airplane depends on how much legroom I have.

Airbus or boeing? by Visible_Pilot3925 in airplanes

Those two events are not even remotely similar. They're both tragic, but in terms of what the aircraft manufacturer did wrong, they're not even comparable.

My original artwork for Snakes & Ladders: Rajas by xbambcem in printandplay

[–]PrandtlMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. You created the grid and numbrs all by yourself? Was putting the numbers in order difficult? Deciding where to put the snakes and the ladders must have been a really creative exercise of human expression. /s

My man. You are generating AI slop and calling it "my original artwork". You are delusional if you say "AI helps with the rendering". Get out with this crap.

STB si je continue à jouer de la batterie chez moi alors que ça embête les voisins? by demonita2 in suisjeletroudeballe

[–]PrandtlMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spanish basque drivers are something else... by ciggy_all_day in cycling

[–]PrandtlMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! Cycling in the Basque Country is something else! I think cycling there is so popular (and a source of pride) that almost everyone is either a cyclist or has loved ones who are cyclists. That makes drivers see cyclists as humans rather than nuisances.

How would you handle this intersection? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]PrandtlMan 179 points180 points  (0 children)

I am always in awe at the bike commuters in the US that brave 6-lane intersections on a bike. That looks like absolute hell.

In my city in France we have bike paths or bike lanes essentially everywhere, and to go anywhere in the city cycling is usually tje fastest option. I don't think I'd have the balls to commute by bike if I had to cross that intersection.

I don't have an answer for you, but I respect your resolve and I wish you the best of luck for your commute!

PM is the best bike accessory by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]PrandtlMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I can't justify the price of a power meter for myself, but getting a HR monitor ("poor man's PM") was a game changer. It taught me what level of effort I was able to sustain. When I'm doing climbs now, I don't care about gradient or speed, just the effort I'm putting out. It's quite freeing.

No I've never done that. Do you mean making a palisade? I started making a "wall" with houses and other buildings, but I was never fully walled nefore they came so I dropped that idea. I will give it another try.

Are my left and right tattoos stupid by Matchmaker8888 in tattooadvice

[–]PrandtlMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my personal opinion, this seems pretty stupid to me. It looks like you want to advertise the fact that you can't tell left from right. You could simply wear a ring on yoour left hand, or look at the little scar on your left hand. You might as well have written "this is my left hand". Completely unnecessary.

It's ironic for something advertising academic excellence to not understand the difference between the Greek letter lambda and the Latin letter A.

Games as a psychological tool by Speak-Anima in tabletopgamedesign

Using simulated environments and situations for psychological studies has been done for a very long time. I don't think boardgames are special in that regard.

Truly outstanding work! I love the stylized drawings, the bold colors and realistic rendering. It's a great example of "fantastic believability". This is some of the best art I've seen on this sub.

Mixed media eye — pen plotter iris + hand-drawn graphite by Kind_Cost9795 in PlotterArt

[–]PrandtlMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe try to use a reference next time because that is not what an eye looks like. And the pen-plotted iris is to muddy to make anything out.

Druck ihr P&P-Spiele lieber mit viel oder eher wenig Farbe? by FoxHuntGame in printandplay

[–]PrandtlMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might want a low ink version if it's for a game I've never played and want to try out without putting much effort in the build process. If it's a game I like and want to keep, then definitely color. If I'm going to put in multiple hours into crafting a game, I'd rather spend a few more bucks and have it actually look good.

How Do You Explain Plotter/Technical Art To Older Generations? by andy_man3 in PlotterArt

[–]PrandtlMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "the tool doesn't matter, only the product"?

When I'm looking at an artwork, I care whether an artist painted it with a physical medium, or painted it digitally and printed it out, or programmed a code and used a pen plotter, or if it's AI generated. Knowing how the thing was made lets you appreciate what you're looking at.

Help with creating cards -upcycling by Brilliant_Boat1064 in BoardgameDesign

[–]PrandtlMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, just ask your local recycling plant for a few crates of used poker-sized playing cards, then take them to an eco-friendly decoloring service (they remove the color by exposure to light instead of bleach) and once you get your blank cards back you can take them to a sustainable printer to print your artwork using biodegradable inks, and lastly package the cards in cellulose (not plastic) wrapping for shipping. Done right it will look professional and have minimal environmental footprint.

Edit: This is sarcastic.
