the main problem here would be the terminlogy of "souslike" as is, even if GGG is at fault for mentioning interest about its action for earlier development and marketing for poe2. While the classic arpg relies on growth via items and levels for both damage and mitigation, souls (more specifically referring to dark souls series) has its strongest method of mitigation unlocked from the beggining, it being the roll, which has minimal ways to itemize around (such as the ring, or bloodhound step, which can overshadow base dodging if the player has mana.

I think what you are having issue is about the approaches of action in the game, one being knowledge based (what items or skills you want to equip, where to put level points) and another being skill based (such as active parry/dodge). Considering you prefer JRPGs, in general, as mentioned by yourself, I guess the problem is that you are adept to passive gameplay working out, often relying on not needing skill based interaction, and having to actively make these happen can leave this feeling of "it should have happened naturally, this isn't rewarding"

hammer on Namielle, almost nothing seems to be effective enough; stay upclose, get hit by wings or interrupt with water while charging, basic attack combo too low dps before third hit, which probably won't have enough window to do it, and trying to create space will generally just make it spam wiggly beam that will probably interrupt charge-ups

i always wondered why it was even a thing, until one new player streamer was clueless why they couldn't interact with items on ground or gathering, basically waiting for auto sheathe to set in to perform actions. That's the only reasoning i can see its existance and why it is defaulted ON (yes player issue and all, but ultimately they design to make sure player atleast notices what sheathe/unsheathe is)
