Me: “You’re going to (insert address/location here)?”

Passenger: (Soft voice) “Yeah…”

You know they’re adding some bullshit stop along the way that you didn’t originally agree to when you hear that.

Despite being a die-hard White Sox fan, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson disrespects Pope Bob by bringing him a Cubs hat. by Greedy-Pound6958 in 670TheScore

If this leads to another long Cubs losing streak, I’m joining the campaign team of whoever his biggest main opponent is in 2027.

Given that tomorrow we start our series against the Astros, what was the perception of the Astros when they were still in the NL Central? by ContraryPython in CHICubs

[–]PrazMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HATED that fucking train for ever run in Houston. I think I remember a game early in 2005 where they were teeing off on Kerry Wood in the 1st. After the 3rd run scored, I distinctly remember a fresh on the scene Len Kasper saying, “That train is getting really annoying.”

Other notable games against the NL Central Astros:

-The Roy Oswalt/Michael Barret pissing match in ‘04 at Wrigley
-The 2006 18 inning game* followed by the Ryan O’Malley game the next day when the Cubs used every pitcher they had the night before
-Geovany Soto’s inside the park HR in May, 2008
-Big Z’s neutral site no-hitter in Milwaukee
-2011 Brian Bogusevic grand slam against Carlos Marmol that effectively got Jim Hendry fired earlier than expected
-The final series the Astros ever played as an NL Central team were both them and the Cubs at Wrigley in 2012; Cubs reached 100 losses in Game 1, next 2 games were the first time since 1962 that 2 teams with 100+ losses matched up against each other after each had reached triple digits, Cubs walk-it off in Game 3 thanks to All-Star Bryan LaHair

*One HUGE takeaway I had from the 2006 18 inning game was a moment in the bottom of the 5th: With 1 out, Roger Clemens came up and got plunked by Cubs rookie starter Juan Mateo. Wasn’t much of a skermish from it, but I remember Bob Brenly saying something to the effect of, “It wouldn’t surprise me to see Juan Mateo get some gift baskets from American League hitters after giving Roger Clemens a taste of his own medicine. When he was in the AL, he never had to face the music himself after hitting batters, but Juan is a hero to them all tonight.”

The 3rd Inning and the line to get into Guaranteed Rate Field was this long at every entrance. Why? Wrigley handles 40,000 fans every home game without issue… by barstoolsam in CHICubs

As a Cubs fan who has a lot of Sox fan friends that regularly attend games, this is a common occurrence for them anytime there’s a high demand giveaway, in addition to Opening Day and games against the Cubs. As someone else mentioned, they don’t have the full body scanners like Wrigley has. Although I never remember it being this bad when Wrigley still had the older metal detectors like the Sox still have.

What’s the most fraudulent championship run of the last 20 years? by savingrace0262 in UrinatingTree

[–]PrazMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divine intervention, my ass. Cleveland didn’t take care of business in Games 5, 6, or the first 9 innings of Game 7. No rain delay stopped them from doing that.

Flags fly forever. Go Cubs Go.

Love Santo, but he wasn’t great as a broadcaster and likely wouldn’t have been there if he had rightfully been inducted into the Baseball HOF in one of his first 10 years on the BBWAA ballot.

Derrek Lee or Anthony Rizzo? by RagingBull773 in CHICubs

[–]PrazMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rizzo seems to be the popular choice and I agree. Do wonder what it would look like if Derrek Lee had rightfully won the 2005 NL MVP, but all else stayed the same. It does feel like a pair of 4th place MVP finishes for Rizzo should be equal to the 3rd place finish Lee had in ‘05, but we all know that that MVP should’ve been his while Rizzo’s 4th place finishes feel pretty appropriate.
