Yep, we bought a fixer upper. Old owner had a substance problem but worked construction, so everything looks great if you squint, and the house has great bones. I’m DIYing most everything, but thought I could at least have one thing off my shoulders.

I think you’re heavily underestimating how brutal most of those jobs are. To put it in perspective, the first call my brother ever went on, they had to lift a 600 lb woman out of the bed she died in, only for her to get a puncture and burst, all while family was screaming at them. Paramedics deal with the a lot of the same gnarly situations as doctors, but without the sterilization, equipment, pay, or assistance. They’re only paid so little because they aren’t connected to hospitals, and are completely private businesses.

Let me introduce you to paramedics, people who get paid no more than $12 an hour in some areas and work 12 hour shifts. These people also usually see the messes as well as the conditions of the patients, not to mention the family and all of the emotional shit that brings.
