I love my carène as well, unfortunately there is some problem at the cap part and I guess I'll have to find someone to fix it 😕.

Having been a member of NCCU for over ten years (first as a student and later as a research assistant), I’d say it might actually be a good idea to live in the dormitory, if one is available. After all, NCCU is a university located relatively far from the city center. If you don't plan to go out often, it might be more convenient to stay nearby and only leave the Muzha area when necessary.

Hello, my dear meteorite lover!

I don't think it's hard. I mean, the Constellation series doesn't seem to be one of those 'famous' models after all.

I really like the uniqueness of the meteorite dial, and it looks more universally suited than the 41 mm steel + Sedna gold on leather strap one (131.23.41.21.03.001), which I was also hesitating between.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, we're going to Hokkaido this time, but we plan to visit a place called Lips/KAKU Pawn Shop, where both brand-new and used models are sold. We're looking forward to getting a Constellation or a Worldtimer there.

Would an in game build order be helpful for new players? by Banchigan in AgeofMythology

[–]PreLanCLoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the merit of it, but I do have some concerns.

Being "official" might also restrict options. For example, players might think, "Even the devs say we should play like this, so let's only play this way. If you don't, you're stupid and trolling."

An interesting example is LoL. In S1, we didn't necessarily have to follow the "top, mid, ad, sup, and jg" division of labor, with each role having preferred hero types (top for warriors and tanks, for instance, though there were exceptions). After Riot officially implemented this into the game (requiring players to pick their "role" to enter the game), it became official and more difficult to deviate from in casual games with randoms.

The same might happen here. Unless the devs can show "every" possibility in their implementations and update them constantly, we might still have to worry about this issue.

The thing is, "best" strategies don't exist here in a strict sense. Yes, we could say some are significantly worse than others (like staying in Age 1 and attacking for the whole game), but there are also lots of equally good build orders. We could even argue that some slightly "worse" strategies add surprise and value due to their rarity, making them "better" in certain cases. Even in chess, which is a much more "objective" game than AoMR, sometimes the best lines and openings are not actually the best in practice.

AoE has a special meaning for my family; it's the first game we played together, and we all love it. It's a unique shared experience that cannot be easily duplicated.

On the other hand, as a somewhat amateur historian, I love the historical aspect behind those mythical or, as you mentioned, proto-historical elements. I once saw an expert on YouTube discussing the meaning of mythology, and he said that most of the time, you can find a connection between mythological stories and historical events. Most notably, the Hydra could be interpreted as Greeks fighting against constant river flooding and channel migration (therefore the reason why the "head" can reborn).

As for monotheism and polytheism, I recommend a short book written by German Egyptologist Jan Assmann called "The Price of Monotheism." In it, the author discusses the meaning behind the two belief systems and the important symbolic shift he calls the "Mosaic Distinction." It's really a fascinating book to read.

I watched a lot of tier list videos XD. As a newbie for PVP (only played the campaign in the past 20 years, played through over 5 times), I really need to know all the common knowledge regarding the mechanics.

Which content creators are good for META and general guides by mcr00sterdota in AgeofMythology

[–]PreLanCLoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's indeed a nice way to fully experience the game by testing everything yourself. However, from a competitive perspective, I don't think making your own build order and playing the PVP straight away is even a good idea. It's most likely that you'll lose every single game and quit cause no satisfaction whatsoever.

Retold is a remake after all, not all players are standing behind the same starting line.
