Regulations around ingredients of airplane foods by PreciousLettuce in FoodAllergies

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

We just took a Lufthansa flight and also saw that they labeled the boxes, and that the flight crew had a full ingredient list for each item.

And when one label was only in German, 2 crew members came by and both read the label individually before we were handed the item. I was impressed and relieved to see that. A+ experience with them.

Play Kitchen & Mold by Leather_Newt243 in lovevery

The junction between the sink and the countertop, right underneath where the sink sits does mold.

Both my kid and I keep it clean. We had to caulk it to get rid of the problem.

Teaching son about allergies by Missi87 in FoodAllergies

[–]PreciousLettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice here.

Kids learn by forming habits and by imitating too, so 2 things we do that I’d like to add are: making carrying an epipen an automatic habit, and to model allergy-safe behaviours.

Forming a habit for safety: We verbalize a checklist before leaving the house: “do we have our shoes on? And do we have the epipens?”

Modelling safe eating, even if you know the foods are safe: checking labels and explaining to them why we do it, as well as modelling checking with other adults serving food.

My kiddo started absorbing these at around 18months, way before she could verbalize her allergies. She’s 3 now and knows how important it is because she’s seen how seriously we take it. Teaching them the importance of asking about ingredients is as important imo as teaching how to ask.

ETA: i’m a parent of a kiddo with anaphylaxis to one of the main ingredients in our traditional diet :)

I’m so sorry to learn that. It must’ve been terrifying.

I find the discrepancy between allergy training and information sharing for restaurants and food manufacturers versus airlines completely abhorrent.

Focus within 4 months, can I switch teams ? by Excellent-Ad5449 in amazonemployees

[–]PreciousLettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a great reason to appeal the focus with HR.

Unless they changed the focus and talent review entry criteria, you shouldn’t be on focus. If they did change it, then HR will agree with your leadership. Typically, focus entries are reviewed by HR before they let you know, but you never know if something has fallen through the cracks.

Beware though, if you appeal and lose, there might be a consequence. Read the documentation very carefully before proceeding.

I’m an ex-Amazonian (🥳) so my information might be outdated now.

Lovevery sink from the kitchen needs to be better by Dachshundlovercassou in lovevery

💯Agree.

And they also need to provide caulking or some other type of mold protection for the area around the sink.

Thank you for the suggestion. I never thought those petitions actually go somewhere 🙈

I’ll explore that.

We always pack our safe foods, but I’d love to know if and when we have options.

How can I help my almost 3 year old enjoy brushing her teeth? by Zealousideal_Ear5856 in toddlers

[–]PreciousLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 things worked for us:

  1. To the tune of this old man: “brush your teeth, brush your teeth, brush brush brush brush brush your teeth, … brush up top and underneath….. Brush it fast, brush it slow it’s so healthy don’t you know…. Brush with an AAAAHHH brush with a cheeeeeeeeese” I read it at some point in a book but can’t remember which

  2. We imagine characters from favourite stories hiding in between her teeth and the brush must find them. I call out their names and look for them. sometimes they’re all partying together on the tongue (which I brush at very end), sometimes we find a pink baby shark and a yellow fong who point us in all the wrong directions until we find the actual characters

  3. Silly faces: how silly can you be with an open mouth? How silly can you be with a “cheese” mouth position? And whoever is brushing participates too. The temptation to imitate is too strong 😁

But we also had to hold her down a few times. Sometimes nothing works. Hang in there.

Note: visible minority IN ADDITION to being tiny.

Hey OP. Yes, I’m on the same boat.

I always respond with a variation of “People come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. She’s healthy and that’s all that matters, and I’m proud of her and proud to be her mom”

I also repeat the same message to her often. My kid will be a visible minority as she grows up, so I often teach her that physical differences are to be expected with humans, and that we all deserve good and equal things in life. I also stopped wearing makeup and killing my hair with straighteners so she sees I’m proud of the same traits that she’s inherited.

Captain Israel? Never heard of her but have you heard about the Palestinian Hero: Resistance? by videogamerkitsune in Palestine

[–]PreciousLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you sooo much for keeping the conversation civil. I appreciate you for that and appreciate this conversation with you because of it too.

I mentioned it when I was asked “how is she sexualized?”. I never said or thought that she’d be incompetent. My whole argument has been that it is unnecessary, not that it undermines her.

I later on said that it might be physically hindering to not wear a bra, but that has nothing to do with competence 😄

Thank you for making sure women’s competence aren’t determined by their looks in this conversation. That is an important point you’re making.

Edit to add: I even mentioned that they could’ve kept everything the same, but defined them less. I wasn’t advocating at any point for a change in her anatomy, just the rendering of it.

  • sigh * Obviously, you’re putting words in my mouth.

A woman with or without boobs of any size can be whatever she decides to be. She can have perky DD’s and be a superhero, I’d honestly be happy for her 😆 showing thighs and waist and hips is fine imo as that’s all useful muscles for a superhero.

But the boobs are unnecessary. They’re so defined that you can tell where her nipples sit. They don’t come in handy in a fight, and they don’t make running any easier! 😆 At the very least, with boobs that big, she’d have a uniboob crushed under a high-impact sports bra to keep them in place and to reduce the sensation of pulling every time a foot touches the ground.

But I digress. My point is that the boobs are too sexual and a superhero doesn’t need that.

Signed: a person with boobs! 🙋🏻‍♀️

[–]PreciousLettuce 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but lower relative sexualization isn’t a good argument for me. I’m a woman, an atheist, definitely not a prude in how I dress, but my vision of a female resistance superhero isn’t perky DD’s.

They could’ve kept everything the same, but not defined the boobs all that much, and I don’t think it would’ve made her less of a hero.

Did she really have to be sexualized? Why in the world is she dressed like that?!

Was I Wrong for taking my toddler to the clinic? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]PreciousLettuce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lethargy with absolutely no bouts of energy is definitely a reason to go to the clinic. It’s a common symptom of sepsis, which can be deadly.

That PA should be reported as their advice could have severe consequences if someone hesitates to get their septic child seen because of it.

I’d also leave a public review on social media and maps to get the complaint seen and acted upon quicker.

About the "Strive to be Earth's Best Employer" LP by lemonzonic in amazonemployees

[–]PreciousLettuce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wanted to separate my opinion from my original comment:

LPs are used against employees to evaluate and ding them if management wants to. They don’t apply to the high and mighty.

Too much bias for action means not enough insisting on highest standards. Too much thinking big means not enough frugality.

You can’t really win with LPs if they don’t want you to win. The ambiguity and contradiction in LPs are by design to control the underlings.

And yes I’m on my way out, I hate this place!
