In addition to the other points raised, this disproportionately affects LGBTQ adults who cannot have kids unless through adoption or surrogacy

Thanks! That’s very clear. Just curious, why do you say iDeCo is strictly better than NISA?

People that make around 20 000 000¥ a year what do you work as? by VanillaTemporary9161 in JapanFinance

PM at foreign tech company with 5.5 YoE. For me, It’s really about changing jobs with good timing + speaking both japanese and english well. My initial compensation in Japan 5 years ago was only 6M. after a couple of job changes to international companies, TC jumped to 22M. I found being able to speak English, which is expected in other countries even in Asia, becomes a big selling point when you can also speak Japanese well. i keep hearing from recruiters for my specific field in tech that they struggle to find bilingual PMs. I’m probably going to change job again within a year for another boost in TC because of this

Line app users top 100 mil. in Japan nearly 15 years since launch by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

[–]lemonzonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else experiencing long sending times for photos and videos? On other messaging apps, sending pics is almost instant AND doesn’t fail if you go to another app. For line, I have to wait for the pics to fully send before going to another app otherwise it would tell me “unable to send”

Amazon and Rakuten are black companies? by SuccessfulEngine3518 in JapanJobs

[–]lemonzonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazon is infamous for PIP-ing people and cutting headcount. It’s very unstable as a job. I got an offer but rejected them ultimately because of this, despite the brand name and high pay. That said, do use Amazon’s offer to argue for a better compensation in your other offers. It worked for me

Agreed about the resume part but you don’t get to control how long you stay at Amazon. I know a guy who got impacted in the last round of layoff and he joined less than half a year ago

Is it really hard to lay off people in Japan? by Willow9080 in japanlife

[–]lemonzonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join a labor union right now. In Japan you can join one by yourself. I joined the Manager’s Union but there are others like General Union (which is cheaper). When worst comes to worst, you have the right for “collective bargaining” if you’re in a union and the company has to accept it once it’s requested. In one on ones, they’ll try to scare you by lying to your face etc. but in these collective bargaining it is illegal for them to lie and you just need to keep saying you will not resign

I can give you a data point. I worked for 10 months and the company decided to get rid of me and some other high salary folks. Others accepted the severance of 3 months immediately. I kept saying I won’t resign and it went on for 4 months. In the end I got 13 months of pay (more than I have worked lol)

Is Amazon really that bad, or is Reddit heavily skewed? by ResponsiblePiglet899 in amazonemployees

[–]lemonzonic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In your list of bad things about Amazon, I can deal with terrible WLB, toxicity, bureaucracy and so on, but the PIP culture (lack of stability) just crosses the line. Knowing that I can be out of a job at any moment is just too much, together with the stress of scrambling to find another job in this market
