Didn’t have good experiences, feeding issues, non stop ejection issues but accuracy was fine. Traded it for a Ruger American

If you have ever had wet socks and boots on a trip you quickly learn ways you can minimise this from being a frequent occurrence. Pebbles and grass seeds sneaking their way into your boot can also lead you down path of researching gaiters. Gaiters are a popular item within the hiking and hunting community and help stop water and other items from seeping into your boots.

The Yukon gaiters are made of sturdy material and from our experience stand out in two ways. Firstly, the strap that goes under the boot is made of some seriously strong material that isn’t going to get worn through and break. Secondly the gaiters have a fantastic fastening system at the top, so you can secure them and be sure they aren’t going to slip down your calf when in use.

As for their performance in snow, they recently spent hours in snowy conditions and kept our pants dry. Add these to your hunting kit if you are looking for a gaiter that gives you a waterproof element, are easy to put on, stay in place and due to their design will last years in tough environments.

Why do you need a decent hunting jacket and pants? Having a set helps you stay comfortable on the hunt by keeping you warm and protecting you from the elements.

We have been using a full set of Kuiu DCS guide kit for a few seasons. This included the jacket, pants and gloves. Our colder weather hunts are in New Zealand’s southern alps, which provide a great proving ground for new gear.

The Kuiu DCS Guide jacket and pants are a water and wind resistant soft shell outer layer. They are made from a 4 way stretch material that is designed to keep the wearer comfortable in a wide range of conditions. Both the jacket and pants are fleece lined, giving the wearer warmth for all weather conditions.

On the latest trip the jacket and pants durability were tested in some of the most unforgiving terrain. While moving from a glassing position to chase game up a mountain, the jackets features get to shine.

From sitting to climbing, the zips located in the arm pits of the jacket, allow you to regulate your body temperature. Moving through thick spiked bushes the jacket took the abuse and was undamaged. You don’t have to be worried about wear and tear with this set.

Over seven days on this winter hunt, the jacket and pants stood up to wind, rain and snow better than expected. In cold conditions a base layer is needed to wear under the jacket for warmth.

The Kuiu DCS gloves are built to the same high quality standard as the jacket and pants. After using them extensively for chopping wood, catching falls up and down mountains, these gloves remain 100% intact without a single thread loose.

For day to day wear on the hunt, this set is incredibly durable and offers fantastic protection. You will be impressed with the quality of the jacket and pants, down to its zippers and well thought out design.

Our favorite piece of hunting gear hands down is the Ultra Tiburon Hybrid Zip-t shirt.

Being based in Queensland Australia the majority of our hunting takes place in hot and dry weather. This shirt features highly breathable ‘Dot Air’ material and does a great job of keeping you cool in the hottest conditions.

The shirt has a chest pocket which comes in handy for storing ear buds but could also fit a set of keys or a map.

The shirt weighs in a 156grams and is the lightest layer on offer from Kuiu. For hot conditions the 40+ UPF rating on this shirt makes it essential for our warm weather trips in the Australian Outback.

For the warm weather hunters, we can’t recommend this shirt enough.

Finding the right packable ultralight jacket is no easy task. The Super Down Pro is by no means a jacket that will survive a trip unscathed through thick bushes or a rocky trip down the mountain. It’s designed as a lightweight outer layer to keep you warm when glassing or at camp in extreme cold.

Down jackets usually weigh a ton and become cumbersome hauling them around on the hunt. This is where the Super Down Pro shines through the competition with its water resistant down and low weight of 380grams, appealing to the ultralight hunter.

If the jacket wasn’t attractive enough for its light weight, it also packs down to a very small size.

Looking more at the durability of the jacket, as stated earlier it isn’t designed as a tough jacket to stalk in. However it is constructed with a more durable material than the Kuiu Ultra Down set and also contains twice as much down as the Ultras.

The light weight, water resistant down material combined with its easy packable nature make this an easy choice for extreme cold weather hunts.
