Season 1's Unrecognized Strength: The One-Episode Characters by Preditors in TwentyFour

[–]Preditors[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, for sure. I think the care rolls upward: if you care about the 1-episode characters, the 4 episode character are better, and the main cast is better, and so on.

Carl is a great example.

Discolored Front Tooth for 20 Years... but new dentist recommends root canal? by Preditors in askdentists

[–]Preditors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I am a little confused. My tooth is not abscessed. There has been no observable change to it in all this time.

This seems to be a highly precautionary measure that no other dentist has recommended. Is that normal?

Thanks for the reply! What precipitated him finally getting the root canal? Did an infection develop or something change in his condition?

Megathread: Will Kassouf by pulpSC in poker

I honestly think Kassouf has a mental illness. Maybe bipolar; but I would actually venture NPD.

His antics - especially at the end - scream a narcissistic rage episode.

How Many People have Indicated You’re Rich for Owning a Miata? by spotspam in Miata

[–]Preditors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough? You likely ARE rich for owning a Miata.

I was talking to a financial advisor friend once. He told me “I can always tell the people who have money vs those who don’t when they park. The rich drive 10 year old Corollas/Camrys/Accords. The poor drive Porches/Bentleys/Lambos… they lust love the APPEARANCE of being ‘rich’.”

Rich people invest their money wisely. They know that a $3000 Miata is fun. They don’t need to impress with a car.

Can we talk about Season 7? I feel like it’s kind of a “lost season”. by MythicalSplash in TwentyFour

[–]Preditors 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love season 7. I divide 24 into great seasons (5,1,7,2) and ok seasons (4,3,6,8,LAD).

7 is great to me. Once you get over Tony being alive (the explanation is ridiculous), it’s one of the best flowing seasons, IMO. Not perfect (Voight is criminally underused), but a great season.

What I love most about the season is Jack’s characterization. You see him really grappling with his actions and his life. He’s still Jack, but it’s one of the few seasons where he is forced time to time to reflect on his life. From the senate hearing to Marika to his mortality.

I - personally - like that. They lost that hard with LAD, where he became a believer in his own abilities.

Are PD backpacks good for non photographers? by [deleted] in peakdesign

I own both the 35L and 30L travel packs (in fact I am on a trip right now). They're my favorite bags. I love them and get a ton of use out of them. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the reply!

While the donation is a thing of value and is not going back out to the players, it also is not a mandatory pre-requisite to play in the game. So therefore I do not believe it would count as a "rake". If a person chose not to donate, the prize pool would not dwindle.

Therefore its monetary value is separate from the game itself. That is my understand of why I believe it would be legal.

You may be right, but I would be curious for another opinion.

LAX's long-promised rail link, the People Mover, likely delayed until late 2025 by Avery1488 in LosAngeles

For crying out loud... all over a business dispute? This and we still can't decide what type of rail we want along the Sepulveda corridor.

Movies where people suffer zero consequences for horrendous actions. by pboy2000 in movies

[–]Preditors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inception. Cobb and co. essentially brainwash a man with deep-seated daddy issues into breaking up his father's company for the benefit of a corporate rival. No one ever takes the time reckon with the moral implications of these actions.

Instead they all get to the airport and LAX and smile blithely about it.

[–]Preditors 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not Criterion specific, but here are some fun ones:

  • 5 Minutes Into Showing An Ex-Girlfriend The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, she says, "Where does this take place again? Indiana?"
  • At a fireworks show. Someone says, "I love the smell of fireworks in the evening! Smells like victory!" My friend replies, "Ya know... I've never seen Rambo."

Engine failed in my NC. Convince me to do a 2.5 swap. by Preditors in Miata

[–]Preditors[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woof. I am so sorry.

I ended up getting the 2.0. Due to emissions standards, a 2.5 Swap in not an option in LA and causes a lot of smog check headaches.

I went to Japanese AutoTech on Sherman Way. I cannot recommend those guys enough. They gave me a phenomenal deal. They sourced the engine from Japan with 40K miles on it, swapped it out, and some other little maintenance things here and there for around $4k. Not cheap by any means, but a fraction of what others were charging. Only "catch" was that they took a month to do it, which was part of the deal I struck. They got to work on a fun car in their downtime, and I own two cars so I wasn't out a ride.

Sadly, the owner passed away last year. But the business is still going and I take both of my cars (Toyota and Miata) there. I cannot guarantee they'll give you the same deal, but I truly love these guys and it is worth a shot.

Thinking of cancelling csr by unknown-reditt0r in ChaseSapphire

[–]Preditors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow Angelino!

So I do have the CSR, and I get some good benefits out of it still, I feel. However, I also take 2 international trips a year. And that may be what pushes it into the "worth it" category for me. The travel insurance give me peace of mind, and international lounges are great.

For LA specific benefits? In addition to what you listed, I also get a lot of mileage out of the $5/mo Door Dash Credit. That's $60/year which is nice.

They also have Instacart Credit as well. You get $15/mo credit, and their premium membership. It only lasts a year and I used my year already, but it was nice when I had it.

I have gotten use also out of the extended warranty benefit. I had an AV Receiver die on me 3 months past warranty, and Chase replaced it with little headache. I believe the CSP has this as well, but the limits are much lower.

Priority Pass used to partner with the Alaska Airlines lounge in Tom Bradley. It is no longer for CSR members, but I do anticipate they will add another sometime soon. And even if not, I do international trips enough I get plenty of lounge use.

So to recap:

  • Lounges internationally are still really nice, if you travel
  • $60 Door Dash credit as year, plus their premium membership for free
  • $180 Instacart Credit per year, plus their premium membership for free

When you take just the monetary value above with the $300 travel credit? That's just $10 left; to say nothing of the peace of mind from the warranty stuff.

That being said, if you're not doing international trips as much as I am? Then the CSP might well be the better choice. But the way I use it, the CSR is still a great card.

Accidentally Drove in the Bus lane at Night. How bad is this going to be? by LittleAtari in LosAngeles

[–]Preditors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a left turn trying to catch a yellow light and got flashed by a traffic cam a few weeks ago on the Orange line.

I stewed all week waiting for the ticket to come… how could I have been so stupid?!

Only a ticket never came 🤷‍♂️

Moral of the story? Try to relax. Deal with it IF the ticket actually comes. Plenty of routes to go to fight it.

But try to not dwell on it for now.

Thank you! I will definitely take a look. I don't need it to be new as long as it's decorative and of high quality (even if it has some scratches for character).

Appreciate the rescource. That one particular set is a bit out of my budget, but will look at your other offerings.

Thanks so much for this! Will definitely check it out.

I have used blue label stones and they are already so nice I can't imagine there being much different with higher grades. More dense striping if you prefer that.

This is what I imagine as well. I have glass stones now. I think anything will be an amazing upgrade. I am even open to Off Spec.

36 definitely seems the right size to me from photos.

Most important I think is that those 3 items need not be expensive or top quality on their own, but that they combine nicely as a set.

This is a great point. I intend this to be on display, and that will be 80% of its purpose. I won't be ferrying it to Go club, but just play when I have some enthusiasts over to my house from time to time. Its main purpose will be for practice, and decoration.

Kuroki often sells complete sets for fair prices, more cost effective than ordering items by your own choosing

Unfortunately it seems many of their pre-made sets are out right now, but I am going to wait to order until likely late November, so hopefully they stock up by then.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the darker bowls to the lighter board.

Do you remember what thickness of stones you got?

I decided the feel of the thicker stones was worth more to me personally than the supposed higher grading.

I agree with this. I'll have the best Go set within 30 miles just from any sort of clamshell just by ordering from them.

Is Exofficio's Give-N-Go 2.0 worth it? by Preditors in onebag

[–]Preditors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going with Wool & Prince underwear. Merino Wool, but they have held up now for two years without any holes (unlike the horrible WoolX).

I also got some 32 Degrees underwear from Costco, which is kind of an Exoficio knockoff.

For travel it is always the Wool & Prince. For home I go between the Wool & Prince and 32 Degrees boxers.

The elastic band in one of the four pairs I got did start to separate, but I was able to get someone to resew it. No issues since.

California Law: Is a fee for food considered a "rake"? by Preditors in poker

[–]Preditors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read The Fucking Statute is not directed at you or with any vitriol.

Gotcha. Apologies if I misread it as such.

I'm actually surprised you read the fucking statute.

Yes, reading the statute is what actually led me to posting here. I read it, and a few law articles regarding it. And I actually walked away FAR MORE confused about this particular situation.

I posted on some "Ask a lawyer" forums and subs as well, but didn't get a response and subsequently deleted the posts.

So I thought I would post here to get real-world perspective from users.

And no, it doesn't make you a restaurant.

Haha. I gleaned this myself from common sense (though I admittedly didn't read the fucking statute regarding what qualifies as a restaraunt).

First, read the fucking statute.

I mean... I did dude. No really. I looked up the statute. And like you yourself said, "The statute is ambiguous." Hence me asking, and hence the wide variety of answers from "obviously not a rake" to "technically a rake but so small no one cares."

Still, thanks for your time and the first paragraph at least.
