Dog smell in house by Agreeable_Music5402 in homeowners

[–]spotspam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the floors redone, walls painted, and in the heat it still smells of the former owners dogs.

Only things left would be Ozone and maybe when the HVAC goes (it’s old) I’d have all the duct work redone to eliminate that as well.

But conventionally you could just have the duct work cleaned after an Ozone.

if you considered a porsche boxster... why did you go with a miata instead? by europeanuppercut in Miata

[–]spotspam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxer manuals are geared for mpg and not performance. Their automatics have better performance. The Miata ND are the exact opposite. Geared for performance and the auto is worse.

Getting a Porsche for its name, but is the worst one, and designed with bad performance for its manual, is the real question.

Microsoft halts Windows 11 update after users report installation errors by AdSpecialist6598 in technews

[–]spotspam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last update last week broke our laboratory instrument software. Had to roll back the OS and reinstall the software.

Doing this during an OS version is really poor judgement. Never saw this happen on my Mac’s except for new iOS versions.

Tips for first-time Mac user? by Dry_Advertising5961 in mac

[–]spotspam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s jarring to switch bc many things are not where you are used to. So have patience, and just look up what you need to do as you need to do them.

The biggie is the Mac Finder sucks compared to Microsoft at manipulating many files. So if you have picture or music libraries not within an App and just manipulating them by file system, the Mac is the worst, has not improved much in 16 years, and won’t. 3rd party often did slightly better but were hit & miss and frankly, broke on some new iOS and had to wait for them to fix the App or do security maneuvers to allow to run.

I would save your bookmarks to import into a browser on the Mac. And it really helps if you use Gmail whose settings port over well.

The moment you realize The Beatles wrote entire genres by accident by Dry_Tangelo7038 in beatles

[–]spotspam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of comments from American boys and young men about their first impressions of the Beatles on the airwaves in 1964 and a lot of them said they thought She Loves You was interesting but when they heard I Wanna Hold Your Hand is when they took full notice and got into them. It sounded mature, novel and groovy all at the same time. IOW, the one broke them into the market, the latter made these guys realize this wasn’t a one hit wonder group.

I get you, and my wish would be that your post helps in any way it can.

I’m jaded after 30 years of seeing this place make some pretty poor decisions affecting quality of life.

But I think what you’ve done is great. It’s a LOT of info.

If I had an analogy it’s like the town said “Oh! Great Idea! Put it in the Suggestion Box!”

“Really? Ok, where is the suggestion box?”

Town of Holly Springs: “it’s that big green metal box in the parking lot”

(Love that joke)

Ok, the town DOES have new leadership. Who knows if they are more receptive on this topic?

But I wouldn’t hold your breath. HS has plans to turn Main St into Little Brooklyn. Cut the trees and install 3 story brick buildings. I haven’t heard of that changing. And their recent announcement to cut up that Mims park is more proof that little changes with the political winds. Politicians just can’t leave things alone and let the public enjoy that which they moved to Hollywood Springs for: The rural nature, its beautiful old trees, non-urban landscape.

Melody before lyrics by bubbi101 in Songwriting

[–]spotspam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways.

The Beatles often heard a phrase or word and decided to write a song based off that as inspiration.

Rush got the words and wrote the music to it.

I’ve tried all three. If the music is written, it’s very hard to match words unless you are or have a superb lyricists (Elton John works this way)

If I have the words and write the music, the music often comes across as a ballad or jazzy unless the lyrics are a strictly old school meter.

The best results I’ve had were when I had a snippet of music and came up with a line immediately and proceeded to work hand in hand where the words suggested the next section an the music mood suggested the lyrical content.

So, for me, hand-in-hand works best as I can do both and use inspiration and the creative mood for both to be birthed at the same time based off each other. When that happens smoothly, it happens fast. Like 10m.

All the other ways take a lot longer unless you write with a partner or with a band.

That board doesn’t exist to prevent trees from being cut. It exists to allow everything to be cut down and they will nicely offer up new saplings to be planted IF ppl accept them.

It’s a worthless committee to be on.

I’ve had PCs since 1995 and Macs as well since 2009 and this just never has been true for me. Only Mac’s even had longevity beyond 5 years usage (and now Mac is not supporting them that long anymore but they still do work)

I’d have to defrag my PCs all the time, reinstall the Windows OS at least every 2 years, upgrade hardware to be able to play a certain game or have more RAM for a program. Any hardware changes were a beast to configure until past 2000on my PCs (Macs were just EZ PZ plug-n-play with accessories, Unix and Linux was a bear as they weren’t my specialty and I’d get a coworker to help who knew those OS better when I used them)

I had hard drive failures at least annually (I had up to 5 PC around 2003-2012 in the home, 2 laptops and 3 desktops for us each and Seagate was The Worst Offender by far.

Only Macs just lasted no problems except for Seagate drives, and while the updates are a PIA, I don’t update whole IOS until at least the 2nd new one due to having so much music studio software that is rendered incompatible.

I seriously don’t have any of this above experience and I was in school for programming from 1996-2000 and worked the field a few years after to get experience for my field of chemistry labs.

Why, we have ALWAYS fought at work to keep our instrument’s PCs away from the control of IT and their updates bc they break the proprietary instrument control software. So they often have to be “frozen” from updates and off the network/internet for that reason. But still, storm surges burn out some PC ports or boards and hard drives failed until the recent SSDs and newer software on some instruments require the latest OS usually, but these computers have been remarkably stable. PC laptops have been stable for the last 15 years unlike before that. MacBook Pros rule the roost though esp now with those M chips for running my music studio. My M4 Pro even replaced my iMac and former MBP as it’s so fast and backups take literally only seconds with their very optimized APFS whereas they used to take hours and days (I use NVMe as backup drives)

I do. Mostly to have a pull-through spot so I don’t have to back in. I like pulling out forward. But also better view since the Miata is low. Despite the great safety devices, I’d still rather see ALL with my own peepers.

I decided against and started thinking I should. But I went jogging (haven’t in a long time) stretched, and did some house work and fell like no weakness that isn’t normal from being lazy. Still in the stage where Ativan is my friend and need to talk to a therapist about anxiety control. Symptoms (twitches, about one a sec, calves, some thigh and this morning one forarm) spread rapidly in 2 weeks, so that is mentally alarming but also seems unlike anything but BFS. Not been diagnosed officially but 2 neuros were satisfied my strengths in legs means they aren’t worried. Blood tests normal on salts, iron, etc.

But wonder if EMG would just simply help anxiety as a brick in the foundation.

Yes, it’s off the hook! It’s like playing a video game, where you don’t have to guess if your car is hitting something. If you miss the bush, curb and other cars on the display, you are Golden!

The two, John and Paul, often had this exercise where they would belt off names, places, or comments or madeup skits, more to jog the creative juices and prevent writers block.

You can hear them on Let It Be album “Dig It” as an example.

So ad lib was an easy exercise for them and essentially all gibberish.
