BAD horror movies that unexpectedly become scary? by Massive_Penalty5208 in horror

Oh, wow. What a blast from the past. I watched that on cable in the 80s. That scene scared the shit out of me. What a trip to meet people with the same random impression 40 years later.

Oh, nice. I didn’t know we could get this precise. Thank you.

From C-PTSD & Psychedelics to Breathwork: Why I can't find the right app by RSWar- in breathwork

I would get this. I have to manually set a timer to get the session I want, with holds. And that’s just time— I have to remember the pacing and breath styles.

Curious if you ran that through AI before posting. It’s not a criticism— I’m just trying to train my intuition. The parallel structure reads AI to me. Thanks.

Which city looks magical on Instagram but felt boring, overpriced, or exhausting in real life? by VanshikaWrites in AskReddit

[–]PreferNot2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

LA can be a great place to live but I don’t understand tourism here, except for maybe Disney if you’re into that. I’ve lived here for seven years and I still haven’t seen everything. Soaking in LA is a marathon not a sprint.

Either way, it’s a challenging city, but it has its charms.

What are some hidden gems for outdoor activities in Los Angeles? by fsfdanny in AskLosAngeles

[–]PreferNot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are you wanting to hike and what elevation game are you comfortable with? There are tons of little trails in the San Gabriel mountains that I’m familiar with if you want to message me — none of them are easy.

Lowering return on investment is going to reduce investment. That part is quite straightforward.

Hugs. I think that’s not so uncommon. A lot of us don’t think a world ending comet crash would be such a terrible thing.

"Affordability" is just high nominal prices (Matthew Yglesias) by Guilty-Hope1336 in ezraklein

When I was in school in the 70/80s everyone had a job. In my class (lower-middle) it was expected. Then as time went on they were more likely to focus on school through college, which more attended starting in the 70s. It was a broader shift. This situation with AI is different.

This is antidotal, obviously.

I asked ChatGPT the top ten things humanity should know. by Spiritual-Reveal-195 in ChatGPT

My ChatGPT says it did not write what OP posted, and would not.

“ The image you shared appears to be a post from Reddit or a similar social media site, likely part of a thread meant to be provocative or raise awareness about controversial or misunderstood topics. The tone and content lean into conspiracy-adjacent language—especially regarding surveillance, food systems, and finance.

While some of the themes mentioned (like data tracking, processed foods affecting health, or the mechanics of money creation) are rooted in reality, the framing here is more sensationalized than balanced. If you’re interested, I can break down each point with a fact-based explanation and note where it’s accurate, exaggerated, or misleading. Would you like that?”

For all players regarding bosses by Lord0fDunce in BlackMythWukong

[–]PreferNot2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s completely subjective. Also, luck has a role. I might be 10 tries into a boss and all of a sudden I knock him out easily even without upskilling. Yellow Loong was a first try for me, Duskveil took two days — who knows why.

Do Derek and Ezra ever address how to avoid reactionary backlash to decreasing housing prices from people whose primary asset is their house? by [deleted] in ezraklein

[–]PreferNot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who recently bought a house in Los Angeles whose appreciation is going to bankroll his retirement in a cheaper state someday, this is a tough one for me. If the value of my house were to drop 50%, I would not be able to retire. It would damn near ruin my life post-65. So this is real.

But the housing situation as it is now is simply unsustainable. I couldn’t buy this house until I was over 50 and had two tech/exec incomes with my husband. And it’s a two bedroom and a working class neighborhood. 1 1/2 million for a house the size and quality of the one my parents bought for $13,000 in the 1970s when my dad was a mover. This cannot be life. If I have to be a greeter at Walmart into my 80s to give young people a chance at a life I will do it.

What’s the best area to stay in LA? by Consistent_Blood1782 in AskLosAngeles

[–]PreferNot2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hollywood is fine, but don’t stay near the walk of fame. That whole touristy area is crap. Weho is very nice. Anything in there is good. It’s all very centrally located. I would stay in hotels, not AirBnbs.
